Blood Father (2016)

Mel Gibson Is Back And Better Than Ever!

I went into this movie completely blind. I did not see a single advertisement for the film, in fact I didn't even know of its existence up until the day before seeing it. I haven't seen Mel Gibson do anything for awhile so the movie definitely caught my interest. I expected it to be a fun B- movie turn your brain off type of thing.

But actually I think that this is one of the better films of the year. It was fast paced, fun, and brutal. The acting was well done all the way around. It was emotional, dramatic, and thrilling. Mel Gibson put on one of his greatest performances, and caught me completely off guard. His character was very fun to watch, reminiscent of Joel from "The Last Of Us". William H. Macy was fantastic as well. I would recommend this movie to anybody who loves any genre. It has a little something for everybody. Really great film and I hope it ends up receiving a lot more recognition than its getting right now. I highly recommend you go see this film, you won't regret it! 10/10

Terminator Genisys (2015)

Fun nostalgic trip, with many flaws.

Well it's a better film than Salvation, but thats not really saying much. The biggest thing about this movie thats I hated was the fact that the trailer spoils the movie, DO NOT watch the trailer if you have not yet seen this movie. I had to sit in that theater knowing exactly what was going to be the major twist in the movie, and its really disappointing that these companies put obvious spoilers in the trailers in order to use that as a selling point for their film. Don't worry I won't spoil it in here on the off chance that you have not viewed the trailer. The film is a lot better than the critics would have you believe. It does its job in providing entertaining action with cool looking visuals. The action isn't amazing and neither is the cgi but its passable. A lot of people criticize the casting of jai Courtney as Kyle Reese, but I think he did fine, a little more emotion would've been nice but it wasn't monotone or anything. Arnold Schwarzenegger is the resin to see this movie. He takes it from slightly below average to borderline good. His humorous delivery is fantastic, he pretty much is the only reason I consider this movie decent. If your a fan of Arnold and the Terminator series than I think that you should consider seeing this movie at some point in time (Just not at theaters.) But if you aren't a fan of Arnold and aren't really big on these movies then stay far away. 6/10

Max Payne (2001 Video Game)

One of my favorite games of all time!

I've played quite a few video games in my lifetime, but none have grabbed me half as much as the Max Payne games. I love the dark neo-noir vibe the series gives off. And the first of the series is no exception. This game is brilliant. This game holds up today and that is amazing. Especially considering this games age, I've tried to replay many games from my childhood and none of them seem to be close to how good I viewed them to be as a kid. But this is one game where no matter how many times I play it just keeps getting better. The story is gripping and its a shame that 20th Century Fox messed up the movie the way they did. Because I feel that if they movie even had half as much intensity and story telling ability as the game, it would've been a success. The game play in this game is its best feature. It was unrivaled back then and as far as I'm concerned it remains unrivaled now. The bullet time is fantastic, it forces you to create ways to take out your enemies using it, because if you don't use it you will be dead. The painkiller health system is also done well. You can't just use all your painkillers at once, you have to conserve them until you absolutely need them. The pain killer system is a creative way to replenish your health instead of just regenerating it when your injured, it makes you responsible for healing yourself. The gun play is stellar and compliments bullet time very well. Not enough good things can be said about this games game play. The graphics are great for 2000, I've seen games made 2-6 years later with worse graphics. That just tells you how good they were for that time. You obviously can't compare them to the kind of games that are out today. But for their time that are good. WARNING POSSIBLE SPOILERS, BUT ONLY IN THIS PARAGRAPH SKIP UNTIL YOU SEE MORE CAPS TO READ THE REST OF THE REVIEW And that brings us to the story. It is a simple but well crafted revenge plot. It's been years since Max Payne's wife and baby daughter have been killed. Max's friend Alex finds something out relating to their murder but before Alex can tell Max, he is killed. Sending Max on a violent revenge fueled rampage involving mobsters, cops, and a company called Aesir. Thats as much as I would dare to spoil about this terrific game. SPOILERS ARE DONE The story is well thought out, dark, and takes many twists and turns. Its a dark neo-noir thrill ride that puts a lot of Hollywood films to shame. I would recommend this game to anyone who loves dark stories. The game is somewhat difficult at times so I wouldn't recommend it to casual gamers (I'm using "casual gamer" in the sense that you aren't that good at games, I rarely play video games so to most people I would be considered casual, but I'm very good at them) but if you are up for a challenging game with stellar game play and a great plot this game is for you. 10/10 (There are only a handful of games I would even think about rating this high)

Sin City (2005)

Fantastic

This has to be one of my favorite movies of all time. The visuals are stunning, the action is adrenaline pumping, its dark, and it is perfectly formatted from graphic novel to film. I am a huge film noir fan and have always been looking for the film that would suit my preferences, and I think that this movie is the one that does it. The actors play their roles from the comic perfectly(especially Bruce Willis and Jessica Alba). For anyone that hasn't seen it be warned, the film is broken up into four different stories, so when the credits start rolling on one of them do not get up and leave the movie is far from over. I'm not going to spoil any of the stories though. Overall this movie is fantastic, it is unique and perfectly adapted from Frank Millers stories. This is not just a movie based on a graphic novel it is a graphic novel made to look similar to a movie thats how good of an adaption it truly is. I suggest to anyone who has not seen it to go rent it or download it immediately because this movie is amazing.

Moneyball (2011)

Was skeptical about this movie but was pleasantly surprised.

Wow this movie is unlike anything I expected. When I saw the trailer and read the plot I figured that it would be another one of those boring old sports movies that the world has too many of. The movie had great character development, and plenty of emotional moments. Jonah Hill and Brad Pitt put forward fantastic performances. The directing and editing also were great. The movie was very entertaining and kept me rooted to my seat. I think that it had a familiar vibe to the film hoosiers, and a somewhat similar storyline so I guess that this kind of movie has been done before. But it still felt like a totally different film despite the similarities. Jonah hill had a particullarly great performance before watching this film I had him pegged as the comedy-type actor, but upon seeing this movie my opinion has completely changed I now see that he could probably do any genre.

Overall a good movie somewhat predictable but still a standout you should definitely go see.
