The Leftovers (2014)
Nah man
Season 1 was great, as a fan of Lost I really enjoyed the mystery around the randomness... all the questions you have set you up the next season, anticipating what they all mean.
Nope. You never get answers. Season 2 just changes the setting, but never answers questions and continues to add more and more. The whole season builds up what you expect to be some epic event but ends with an anticlimax of epic proportions. Man that ending sucked.
Season 3, you force yourself to watch because you have 2 seasons deep and keep hoping it wraps up some of the questions.
Nope.
Great acting, great production value and great idea... but a complete mess.
Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet (2020)
Painful characters.
Season 1 was a fun watch, but wtf happened after the covid break?!
The female characters are unbelievably painful, I literally skip all scenes with the 2 testers (can't even remember their names). Poppy is meant to be the genius Pro female character but she is easily the worst written and acted character. So loud and not funny at all.
The rest of the cast are fun, just poor writting letting them down. Ahmed is the best, his character is interesting and is acted Perfectly. He needs more screen time.
The 2 episodes with the back story for CW were actually great, so randomly placed in a season that deserved more.
Black Adam (2022)
Vanity Project
When the rock was a kid he read some marvel comics and decided then, with is immature imagination, he wanted to be a super hero one day. So he wrote it all down in his little scrap book. Fast forward 30 years, he finally has money and influence... and managed to get his scrapbook made into a movie, literally translated as is.
That's this film. A hero movie full of characters loosely inspired by other comic characters with no development, just BAM! Here we are, in some poor Middle Eastern city with a 5000 year old Rock Johnson speaking English and f@*}^ing everyone up. The end.
And the comedy is on par with Thor... gringe level 1000.
House of the Dragon (2022)
It's really... Not that great.
I want to love this. I realllllly want to love this series. I convinced myself I was loving it ep1-3. But as you sit back and actually review what that have produced thus far, 5 eps in... It is nothing more than a melodrama set in the world of GOT. There are maybe... 5 characters and the rest are extras.
Plots are being set up, not by clever writing but by stupid, obvious, out of character mistakes by the characters that had half an episode build up.
Sir C telling the Queen. Dumb.
Daemons wife in the Vale seemed like an excellent interesting character.... Killed off screen after 5min.
Daemon getting with Rhaenra. Out of no where.
Really disappointed... Everything we hated about season 8... Is happening here.
Nope (2022)
Surprisingly awesome
I genuinely left the cinema rating this as the best film I have seen in a really long time.
It keeps you invested till the very end, good suspense and story. Could have been better if the sisters character was trying to be a stereotype funny but not funny black character, she was just annoying. I recon giving OJ a little more personality than what he had would have been a plus as well, he was just so slow and dull.
Defo worth a watch.
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
Bit to silly
Really wanted to enjoy this, love this. But it crossed over the too silly to enjoy line a few to many times for me. Entertaining but forgettable which is a shame because the idea is really cool, wanting it to do the universe thing better than Marcel but ended short.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Give it a chance
Read all the neg reviews and nearly didn't watch it, but really glad I did. Is it perfect? No. Is there to many silly jokes and gags? Yes.
BUT
It also had great action, effects on point, emotion and hands down the coolest villain MCU has had... Bale was awesome and GORE was good enough to have been a multi-movie villain.
Man of Steel (2013)
Aged really well
I remember watching this when it came out and thought it was mediocre, but in rewatch last night I really enjoyed it. It wasn't perfect but It was refreshing to watch a more serious hero film after a decade of MCU films.
The action scenes were awesome, the speed and power of SM and The Kryptionians were awesome and done really well, the scale of destruction and the feeling that there was something at stake was met. I compare it to the latest Marvel films and they have become to paint by numbers, you never really feel the world is in danger or the world even cares anymore. Cavhill is Superman and it is going to be near impossible to ever replace him with anyone better.
Explained (2018)
Interesting, easy watch
Enjoyed these, good quick overview of so many different topics. I have only watched season 3 so far, binged it all in a row over a couple days and it wasn't hard to not notice that pretty much every episode brought race and racism into the story, all from one side.
'Skin' episode highlights at the end that companies were making creams to make people whiter and just changed names after George Floyd.... Just seemed forced into the story. They never mentioned anything about tanning products to make skin darker. #justsaying.
Jurassic World Dominion (2022)
Sharknado but worse
Absolutely nothing positive to say. Bad. Bad.
Expectation: has u thinking it's about dinos around the world...
Reality: locusts.
2 humans died in the whole film. 😂😂😂
The Handmaid's Tale (2017)
Excellent till season 4.
Just like GOT, writers lost the quality of the source material ended. Season 4 was goodish but the ending is just so classic American stupid. Just makes zero sense and is up there with Dexter for worst.
Mare of Easttown (2021)
Quality.
Excellent writing, acting and filming. Slow burner but the way all the 'side arcs' slowly piece together the final twist was excellent. One of the best who done it's I've seen.
Stranger Things (2016)
I don't get it.
I don't understand how this programme is so popular and high rated. Same story 4 seasons in a row. Kiddy, annoying and cartoonish characters and acting. 20+ year olds playing high schoolers. Relies on 90s nostalgia.
Just feels like a cheap Goonies teen program that happens to have monsters.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part III (2022)
Saber battle...
Please, for the love of all that is holy... Please let there be an epic saber battle between the 2 old friends. Please don't let this be it.
I get that Obi-won is super disconnected from the force, out of practice and broken and I guess giving us an epic dual would be as Unbelievable as Rei beating Kyle Ren in TFA... But for 1st reunion between the 2, I was disappointed. I'm willing to hold out for the next 3 episodes Nd hope they give us the epic round 2 we all want and deserve.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part II (2022)
Building up. Enjoyed it all.
Loved it. Acting was great, worlds were cinema like. Reva is not overpowering, people are just spoilt twats these days.
Not having any saber or action in the first 2 episodes is perfect, they building you up for it. And Ewan's emotion and expression with the big news at the end is exactly what we wanted to see after Ep III. Can't wait to see the rest.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part I (2022)
Loved it.
People giving 1 star are the classic spoilt mass consumer winers.
Ewan is excellent. The worlds are cinema level. The story line makes sense. I I won is absolutely the centre character, not 3rd sister. Original organa actor is awsome. Leias casting is great, if a tad annoying but considering her heritage it's understandable she is the way she is.
1883 (2021)
Not perfect, but solid.
Enjoyed all of it. A little cliche here n there but a solid gritty drama. Main character probably miss cast a little but the rest were all excellent. Probably could have done it all in 6 episodes and had the same result, less drawn out.
Halo (2022)
Grows on you.GIVE IT A CHANCE.
I started off like everyone else, epically gutted they f'd up one of my favourite worlds and stories.
Yes it's not loyal to the game. But if you detract the show from the game and give it it a chance, it grows on you. It certainly not a bad show, certainly not a 1/10. I found myself genuinely looking forward to the next episode, the CGI is pretty awesome for a TV show, MS looks cool AF. The Elites are cool AF. I have changed my original score from 6/10 to an 8.
Severance (2022)
Freshest show I've seen in a long time
Every episode was interesting, wanting me to tune in for the next episode. Ignore the "it's slow" reviews, because it's refreshingly meant to be. Great finale.
Ted Lasso (2020)
Quality show
It's been a while since i'v seen any 30min show that was any good, that wasn't super fast dialogue, fart jokes and poorly written. Bill Lawrence made my favourite show, Scrubs, so gave this a try and now i'm gutted that there is only 3 episodes.
Coming from London, it is funny watching an American try and climatize to the British/European culture and they have done a great job thus far. It's subtly funny and doesn't try and ram a joke in every second sentance or try and force in stupid quotes in hopes they will go viral like most current US comedy shows. It's also tugs on your good feels really well, making you care for characters and start rooting for them and the team. Episode 2 was great, Zach Braff nailed it.
