A Teacher (2020)
8/10
Speaking as a human male
24 November 2020
This show is pretty good. In the time of COVID it's one of the very few scripted shows on right now so I've been watching it. However, even without the limited amount of quality content on right now I think I'd still be watching it.

I don't think I can ever truly understand the taboo surrounding a hot female teacher (especially one that looks like Kate Mara) and a male student. I'd imagine the worst part of it would be keeping it a secret. And the fact she is the teacher makes it even better.

Ever see the South Park episode when Ike starts having an affair with his kindergarten teacher and when they go to report to the cops they are like "nice". Sorry, but when the teacher looks like Kate Mara that's the reaction your getting from me. We've become to soft as a society.

The show is worth a look, check it out.

Excellent Horror Flick
8 October 2019
There isn't anything specifically unique about this movie but at the same time it's fresh new look at found footage vampire movies.

I really liked this movie. It's one of those movies that are easily overlooked because you might be sick of the found footage shtick but it's not really found footage.

I love horror, science fiction, and fantasy movies so this is right in my wheelhouse.

If you're looking for a entertaining horror flick seriously consider this one.

Loving this show
25 April 2018
I think this show is great! It's only on episode 4 but so far so good.

Here's the problem though, it's probably going to be cancelled. And how do I know this? Well, almost all cool science fiction shows that run on ABC, NBC, FOX get canned after one season.

I wish it was a Netflix show so I could binge it all at once and have some hope for a second season.

I just hope they tie up the show when season 1 ends, it's probably too much to ask for though.

Pretty Good Science Fiction Show
22 August 2017
It's a solid show and I am happy that it was renewed.

I thought for sure this show was getting cancelled, first of all it's on NBC and almost every good genre (syfy/horror) show they roll out is cancelled in it's first season. Sure there are some exceptions like Grimm but for every Grimm there are 6 other Flashforwards. Secondly, and unless this is some kind of "Mandela effect" I for sure thought that they announced that this show was cancelled in like March of 2017.

Either way I am glad it wasn't!

Maybe network television finally got passed the Nielsen rating's metrics when it comes to renewing shows? If they did I am glad but it's a shame that it took this long. Over the years we lost a lot of really incredible shows due to their misleading numbers.

As far as the "Timeless" series it's a solid story, good acting, nice set designs, and a pretty good villain. If you don't watch it when it airs I think it's a good show to watch during the slower TV season.

I guess it's a "bingeable" show, I mean it won't leave you salivating for more but the story is compelling enough to check out the next episode.

Not science fiction at it's best but it's still pretty good.

Started Strong
22 August 2017
This show started strong, it really did, but by episode 4 the writers pretty much gave up and the network followed.

It was almost like they had a really great script or a really great writer for the pilot but for whatever reason they dropped the ball or got lazy writing episode 4-10. After episode 3 they had no idea what to do next.

I can only remember one other show that the network dropped a few episodes into the series and it was 666 Park Avenue. Wow was I mad about that.

Everything Except

Warning: Spoilers
Not as good the the first film but overall it was pretty epic!

If I was going to complain about one thing it's that I hate when they go to the farm. Joss Weaden fought to kept this part in the movie and I don't understand why.

Every time I re-watch this film I skip/fast forward past the farm scene.

Ugh, I dunno.. MTV kind of ruins the show
11 August 2017
I love having a fantasy show on TV, I think we need more fantasy shows. But this show, on this channel... It's just too... MTV.. It's really not a fit.. I hate MTV shows they always try to, I dunno MTV it. They just have this style with all of their scripted series that takes you out of the show. It's either distracting or cringe- worthy.

MTV reminds me of the Dad that tries to be cool in front of their sons friends by slipping in slang or dumb pop culture references...

You know what I mean? "We're MTV we're hip, we're in the know, we're cool"

This series is MTV's attempt to bring in a different audience but at the same time they are pandering way too hard to their current audience. This is were they lost me and the audience they were trying to get from this show.

People who like these kinds of series don't want to see shirtless dudes getting out of the water and they don't like the pop music a 14 year old girl listens to so why are you trying to shoehorn this junk into the episode?

For whatever reason I picture their audience being 12 to 15 year old girls that sit in their bedrooms talking on the phone all day.

They need to look at how the CW brought in a different audience. CW has a certain style but it doesn't slap you across the face like MTV's style. A CW show isn't obvious anymore, you can't watch a CW show and within 10 mins know it's a CW show.

I also don't understand why they are shooting this series in New Zealand. Most of their sets seem like poorly designed green-screens.

In all honesty it's really not an awful series and kudos to MTV for trying to do the series but if they are going to do shows like this they need to stay out of it. Worry about having a good show for your network first. Leave the branding to the bottom corner of the screen and during your commercials.

If this show was set up in a way like Game of Thrones I think it would be incredible. Imagine if they decided to find really good actors, took more time and care in the costumes and the look of the world, and remove all of the pop styling that MTV force feeds all of their shows and you're left with a really good foundation for a show.

Tight storytelling, great plot, interesting characters, & exceptional acting
11 August 2017
I'll admit I sat on watching this for a while, I thought it would be boring but wow was I wrong, I love this show! It has a great plot, tight storytelling, interesting characters, and exceptional acting. Whats not to love!

Really appreciate the 8 episode seasons, it lets the writers tell a great story without having to add in filler to spread the story out to 10-13 episodes and it leaves you wanting more. Needless to say it's an easy binge.

If you haven't seen this series and you're a science fiction fan you really need to check this out. Like I mentioned earlier, I put off watching this show for a while. I thought it be boring and be more drama then syfy, that isn't the case.

I don't understand why it doesn't air in the US the same time as it airs in the UK? I think the US ratings would be much higher if it did.

Under the Dome (2013–2015)
6/10
Season 1 - 8/10 | Season 2 - 6/10 | Season 3 - 4/10
11 August 2017
Season 1 was excellent television, I give it an 8. What else more could you ask for, it had a great story and interesting characters... I was totally hooked at the end of season 1.

Season 2 and 3 they strayed way way of course, trying to wedge characters into the story. It felt like the TV executives made the writers add in new characters because they wanted those actors on the show.

Also, I felt like the TV executives were afraid to use the "individuals" responsible for the dome in the novel but instead made it worse by going the way they did. Would have loved to see the novels version on TV. At the very least it would have made season 2 and 3 better if they went the way of the novel.

Under the dome is just another example of a show that did well because it aired during a time of the year when there is nothing else on for the people who enjoy this genre. Put this show on in the fall or winter and it's probably not seeing a season 2, definitely not a season 3.

Absolutely Bonkers
11 August 2017
Honestly, it didn't deserve it but I totally understand why this show has lasted 3 seasons.

It's one of the rare genre based TV shows that air in the summer. Any science fiction/horror TV show airing in the summer is going to get viewers. Just look at Under the Dome.

This show's situation is very similar to Under the dome. The first season for both shows were really well done but season 2 and 3, totally bonkers. It probably should have only been 2 seasons for both shows.

So if you're wondering why the ratings are as high as they are it's because there's no alternative. There's really nothing else out there in summer to watch.

I wish TV producers would catch on, if you make more genre based shows in the summer you'll get viewers out of pure desperation.

Salvation (2017–2018)

This is a Solid 7 Summer TV Show
11 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Considering that this is airing during a time of the year where a show like Zoo makes it to 3 seasons I'm pleasantly surprised so far.

Salvation is a pretty solid science fiction show. It doesn't have lazy writing, pointless story arcs (so far), or bad acting it's just... solid.

There's an asteroid about to crash into earth and the government and a tech company are working together to deflect/stop it. The story is absolutely believable, right down to a civilian astrophysicist who discovers it.

We're only on episode 6 so far but everything has been working for me. I am a little worried about this "Project Atlas" they keep mentioning, I didn't understand why finding a raspberry pi in a rock was such a big deal but hopefully it'll pay off in the end.

Plus the actress who plays Grace, I can't remember seeing her anywhere else before but wow is she gorgeous.

When you are rating TV shows I think it's good to look at when they are airing, it's the middle of the summer and there's really not a lot of options available.

I have a deep, deep hatred for shows like America's got Talent & The Bachelor. I'm also not a fan of procedural shows like law and order or those cop shows. Spoiler alert, they caught him. The only TV shows I watch are genre based so when there is a new syfy, horror, mystery, thriller, fantasy show I am all over it.

I really don't understand why all the big movies still come out during the summer and the best TV shows run in the fall and winter? Why not just spread everything out evenly through the year this way they aren't competing with each other as much.

Regardless, if you need a new show to watch because summer television is dreadful Salvation is a pleasant surprise and well worth a watch.

The Mist: The Law of Nature (2017)
Season 1, Episode 8
1/10
This show keeps getting worse!
11 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I don't know what it is with these Danish directors/writers but they are 0 for 2 in 2017, they really need to stop messing with Stephen King's work. Between what Torpe did to this series and what Arcel did to the Dark Tower (lazy and uninspiring) let's black list anyone from Denmark wanting to adapt a Stephen King story.

I'm glad IT and Mr Mercedes are being made by people with no ties to Denmark. BTW Mr Mercedes, very good so far.

So as of episode 8 we are starting to see why the mist might have come. And oh boy is this a winner, see this version of the mist didn't come from another dimension like the book or the film. Christian Torpe (and the other producers) and his infinite wisdom decided that this version of the mist be from nature because a girl (who I hate) was raped.

This show makes me cringe! The only reason why I am watching it is because there is NOTHING else on and I guess I am holding out some kind of hope that the series would turn itself around... It wont.

I wonder how they pitched this to the network? This guy sits down and says we want to adapt King's book to a TV series but we take all of the really interesting and fun parts of the story and replace it with something really stupid that will alienate everyone who loved the book and the movie.

The Mist (2017)

Where do I even start!
4 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I rarely ever write reviews but for this I am making an exception.

This series didn't just disappoint me but it got me very angry. Christian Torpe should make a public apology for what he did to this show.

When I first heard they were making this into a TV series I was really excited, I loved the movie and I am a big fan of Stephen King's adaptations. I originally thought that they would be expanding on the novella and movie. There is so much they could have done with this story.

I was so excited to see more about the arrowhead project. They could have easily made a great show that revolved around just the scientists at the arrowhead project. Basically a prequel to the movie.

But what this guy did to the story.. Wow.. First off the mist (in my opinion) is a kind of atmosphere from another dimension, that has creatures in it. It's basically their environment, they are just following the mist. For whatever reason Torpe decided to remove the creatures for... I don't even know, hallucinations? Ghosts? Guys on Horses with arrow? COME ON!

Why would someone do that? The coolest parts of the book and the movie involve the creatures and the mystery of where the mist came from. How do you remove that element?

They barely mention the arrowhead project. They are actually leaning more toward the mist being some kind of natural disaster, how stupid!

Then there are the horrible characters in the series, I think its safe to say I hate all of them. The story line involving who raped the daughter is so pointless (and the person who raped her is obvious). The junky who decides to go through detox in the middle of this happening. The people in the church have no point what so ever. The people trapped in the mall is a complete rip-off of dawn of the dead. The black smoke monster from lost, the one that kills the little girl, was by far the worst special effects I have seen in a long time.

Honestly what where they thinking?
