Love, Rosie (2014)
A nice romantic comedy and good for a couple of giggles
Based on the book "Where Rainbows End" by Cecelia Ahern where –long story short- Alex and Rosie are perfect for each other but for whatever reason keep getting pushed apart. I read the book earlier in the year after learning that it would later be adapted into a film. Although I enjoyed the book towards the end it was becoming more and more irritating that they still weren't together.
In that sense, the film is exactly the same. Each time they have a chance to be together something happens or gets in the way. I guess this is what makes the film last longer and feel a lot slower than what it actually is. I was more than disappointed with the way that parts I found funny in the book were completely exaggerated in the film.
However, saying that, the film wasn't entirely awful. Lily Collins as Rosie and Sam Clafin as Alex in my opinion couldn't have been better chosen for the roles. They were exactly as I pictured in the book and I think without them the film would have been a complete disaster.
It's worth the watch if you have a couple of hours spare and want to have a little giggle at a romantic comedy but if you've read the book then don't have too high expectations.
Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb (2014)
Great family film and very easy to get caught up in!
I don't usually find myself to be a fan of family films like this one; although I have seen the first two in the series I wasn't expecting much from based on how much I disliked the second.
I watched this at the cinema with some friends and it kept up with all the same characters from the first two films (Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Robin Williams etc). Some new additions were made too including Dan Stevens and Rebel Wilson. As always the jokes were funny and the storyline was good given that I thought they had already exhausted it with the previous two films.
It was easy to watch and set a good pace with it neither moving too fast or too slow. Considering that I don't usually tend to watch this type of film I enjoyed it a lot more than I first envisioned. Definitely worth the watch!
The Best of Me (2014)
Typical characters with an average and predicable story
I'm a big fan of Romantic movies and the odd cringey film but i found this so typical and predictable. For the first time ever even i managed to predict the end which wasn't worth the build up created by the rest of the film. During scenes that were supposed to be emotional and sad i found myself laughing at how unrealistic they were.
The cast is slightly confusing. Maybe i can believe that the younger Amanda grows up to be Michelle Monaghan but i don't understand the thinking behind Young Dawson and James Marsden. Not only do they look nothing alike but Young Dawson doesn't even look young enough to be with Young Amanda.
I found myself much preferring the scenes with the young Dawson and Amanda in comparison with the older cast because i just found them so annoying. Michelle Monaghan's character seemed far to perfect with the typical problems with her perfect life.
Being the only two people in the cinema at the time, myself and my friend should have taken this as a hint. This is definitely no Notebook or Walk to remember.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 (2014)
Excellent film, cannot wait for part 2!
I have loved these films since the first one was released and have been waiting for this film all year. It was definitely worth the wait! Despite a few changes from the book, the adaptation of the film was great and i think it was a good idea to have split the film into two parts as there was so much detail included. If you haven't read the book then i imagine the film would be slow but for readers all around i cant imagine the experience being anything less than enjoyable.
Less action than the first two films without the actual Hunger Games involved however its still just as entertaining and enjoyable. After always thinking Josh Hutcherson was one of the weaker members of the cast he came through in this film giving what was probably one of his best performances yet.
After becoming quite possibly one of my favourite films ever i would definitely recommend for everyone to watch it!
