Anna Karenina (2012)
This film inspired me to read Tolstoy's book
I've watched all the film versions of Anna Karenina but this is the first one I saw, and it inspired me to read the book. All of the film versions made me appreciate Tolstoy's written work, but this is my favorite of them. It held my interest and attention from beginning to end, and I watch it often when I'm feeling like life is rough. It reminds me that my life is actually not that rough. And it's just beautiful, moving art.
Ozark (2017)
Some shows you can watch over and over. BUT NOT THIS ONE...
The final episode of the final season was horrible. It was a big let down. Did Camila end up leaving the Byrdes alone or did they have to continue laundering, since Ruth got killed? Did Jonah actually shoot the detective, or the goat cookie jar? Why didn't Wendy die. She deserved it more than Ruth.
The Dilemma (2011)
I was entertained, and Winona's acting skills!!
I was hooked from the beginning. Good mix of many emotions in this movie. And let me tell you, Winona Ryder has a scene with Vince Vaughn over coffee that shows why she is a truly talented and amazing actor! Glad I watched this movie.
Falling (2020)
Very emotional
I was very impressed with this film. I watched, and in disgust I thought, "How can Willis be so mean...to everyone?" And then I thought, "Wow, I am often that mean." What an awful admission, but a necessary one. I can only hope that I don't age with such anger, and that my kids will forgive me for being so mean when they were younger. I hope they'll be as patient with me as John and Sarah were with Willis, when I'm at that stage in life. This film was rough to watch, but very meaningful. I loved Lance Henriksson's performance, and Viggo's and Laura's too. They all give the viewer SO MUCH to ponder.
Hope Springs (2012)
Cherish your spouse
This movie is so real on so many levels. Watching it made me want to ensure that my spouse knows how much I cherish him. It almost felt like I was in therapy with them, and their frustrations with each other were palpable. I recommend this movie for anyone who is married!
The Silencing (2020)
I loved the ending!
This movie was definitely a thriller with a couple of really great twists. It was much better than I anticipated. And the ending was perfect, in my opinion. Lol. Totally justified!
Mare of Easttown (2021)
Genius story telling
Episode 5, Illusions, was unexpected in the most incredible and heartbreaking way. I was a police officer for 11 years, 3 as a detective, and the episode triggered something deep inside that evoked so much emotion. I am absolutely impressed with this show.
Toy Story 4 (2019)
Best of the series
I laughed out loud many times. I jumped out of my seat a few times. I cried. I don't remember doing any of the above when I watched the first three. TS4 was perfect and I want to see it again. That's also something I never said with the first three movies. Go see it!
Waiting... (2005)
Reminds me the restaurants where I worked
This movie makes me laugh so hard that my belly aches. Just like I did when I worked at restaurants like "Shenaniganz". So many similarities!
Jack Ryan (2018)
Hooked
When I started the series I thought I'd simply watch an episode here and there when I had time. Ended up binge watching half of them in one sitting. When you think you've got something figured out, something else happens and you are completely riveted to the story.
Calvary (2014)
Deeper understanding of love and forgiveness
I'd never heard about the movie and watched it on the flight home to California, from a two week trip to Dublin, Ireland. I was hooked from the first line of the film and wept openly at the end. I could identify with every single character and with each of their personal battles. But Father James' character resonated the most. To see this good human being go through such anguish at the near loss of his daughter, the loss of his beloved dog and church, potentially the loss of his life, and what looked like the loss of his faith, broke my heart. Yet through it all, he held on to genuine love and forgiveness, even for the man who threatened to kill him. The last Sunday in the film was so beautiful; so well written and acted. Father James really won my heart when the killer told him to say his prayers and he responded that he already had. He was at peace, even in that very final moment, and I could feel it. That is how powerful this story is. I could watch this film again and again and learn something new from it each time.
