The Last of Us: Long, Long Time (2023)
Can only imagine the score without review-bombing!
What a shame the rating reflects such a negative approach to what is widely - and personally by me - regarded as one of the finest episode of any television ever.
I stand by that extreme praise as someone obsessed with the game since the day it came out and someone who can appreciate the art, emotion, story, scripting and of course acting of this catastrophically sad yet immensely hopeful moment in time on television.
I feel so sorry for everyone who radically hated it to the point of review bombing it with hyper low scores. Like it or not, regardless of your views on sexuality, original plot, politics - any of it - as a piece of television entertainment it clearly doesn't deserve a low score, let alone 1's.
From a lifelong devoted TLoU fan, Thank You to everyone involved in this masterclass of television. Thank you so so much for this series, episode and memory.
God of War: Ragnarök (2022)
Extraordinary
This is the definition of masterpiece. I have not enjoyed the story of a game this much since the first time I played The Last of Us... it is truly comparable and I mean that with the greatest of respect to both games.
And while the storytelling & plot get all the press, the rest of the game is also so admirable - graphics, soundtrack, voiceovers, mechanics... I wish I could shake the hands of the production team but that would take weeks! If any of them ever read this please know that you created something that brought me immense joy. Thank you so much.
Please play this, you will gain from it.
Killing Eve: Just Dunk Me (2022)
The other reviews are the best bit...
I have no problem with a continuous stream of brutal human death, the gratuitous murder and torture of men and women but a cat! Well Lordy that's just wrong.
Noooo - How dare they kill a cat!
Sigh... I though this was that the best bit. Because it was impactful, shocking, spoke about the character, and I know that no cats were hurt.
So I'm just though to laugh at the horror that is other people.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Oh it's Good... but definitely Not Great
Interesting how polarised the reviews are, personally sI liked it but thought like a lot of people that... in summary:
Gal Gadot was magnificent. Wonderful A+ actress. She has found the role of a lifetime.
Kirsten Wigg was not the right casting and poorly written for - she didn't make me think nerd or scary ever - Cheetah was onscreen for maybe 90 seconds? Why even bother then, no tension at all in her.
Pedro Pascal - well cast and did right by the role but Max Lorre was hammily written, started great but got worse and dare I say obvious.
Chris Pine is well used and provides the comedy. He obviously enjoys working with Gal Gadot and the chemistry shows.
The direction was great, I have no problem with the production and execution of the film and Patty Jenkins knows what she's doing.
But the script.... oh my. See above plus not enough action (what there was is excellent) including not supervillain-based combat. Several scenes were fine but just too long, the flying comes too mind - 'very cool!' then 'OK yup we get it' then 'can we now do something else pls?'
I liked the film and glad I got to see it in the cinema too recommend that to all - but if you were to miss it I wouldn't blame you - unlike the legendary first film.
I hope there is a 3rd and they sort the script.
PS: I didn't think it was woke at all, or that he was based on Trump - literally never crossed my mind during or now. Don't bring your agenda to someone else's story people!
Lethal Weapon: In the Same Boat (2018)
Not deserving a one star but beginning of the end
First off Seann William Scott does a decent job and doesn't deserve any grief for stepping into the Clayne Crawford role. His character is actually kind of interesting. Plus the episode is well made, good stunts and explosions as per usual, so it doesn't deserve a brutal review as others are leaving.
But it just isn't the same any more, and while I'm not saying I'm boycotting the show I'm certainly less interesting in it now and will think twice before press play.
