Argylle (2024)
The writer was hi on drugs
There's no way that someone who's sober can write a script like what you'll see in this movie. There's a movie like Mr. And Mrs. Smith of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt where they push the boundaries of reality and add humor to make some fun moments. But this movie ignores all common sense and sanity to push its story going.
Usually "Sharknado" have been mentioned a the worst movie ever made, but now Argylle easily takes the mantle and sits at the top of the list of the horrible nonsensical movies. In sits there wasn't even a script to work with, they must have been filming some action scenes and then editing them together.
Griselda (2024)
Glorifying the sociopaths
This is my problem with shows like Griselda, Breaking Bad, Ferry, etc: they only focus on the money-making side of drug dealing and ignore the consequences on people's lives. You see how Griselda is doing the math to get to $250K by selling just one brick, but you don't see how many lives are destroyed through addiction or how many lives are lost in the violence that follows. Some shows like Narcos manage to overcome this problem, but others fall short or prefer not to at all (Griselda is of the latter group). Shows like Griselda only glorify mobsters and violence, and encourage more at-risk kids to join gangs and enter the drugs business.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)
Bunch of balconis...
I haven't seen any of the previous Indiana Jones', so I was preparing myself for the best of them all. But didn't it disappoint? Yes it did, and big time...
First the length was twice what it needed to be. They had dragged the story by numerous and unnecessary characters to keep the mystery unrevealed, to the point that you've lost interest by the time it's clear what's it about.
Helena was too annoying to watch. Part of the turn off was about her not being any on any side of the story.
The 12 y/o pick pocket who all of a sudden can fly airplane is another mystery to me. Was he there to serve a story line or just for the sake of diversity?
A bunch of balloonis....
Silo (2023)
Predictable, boring
I guess one of the reasons shows like Silo or Last of Us are getting high praises is what happened during Covid. People are also obsessed about conspiracy theories and corrupt government officials. Nothing else makes sense in this show. It's not difficult to guess from the first episode that "the didplay" is a lie. But the show wants to reveal it in episode 10. Something else that doesn't make sense is the tape used to seal the protective suit. If it's safe to go out, then why they had to change the usually used tape with the one invented by Walker to keep Jules alive? The story has a lot of holes and childish scenes too, like where the mayor asks staff in the monitoring room not to watch the real clip of the outside world and they obediently follow his orders.
Treason (2022)
An amateur could do a better writing than this
I don't know how this show has 6 stars here when everyone is giving it one or two! It feels this show has been made by amateurs for people who never watched a spy show and don't know how it works.
Dialogs are childish. You get more sophistication in Spy Kids. They're trying to explain everything in the dialogs as if viewers are brain damaged. The acting of some of them is cringe worthy. The tech doesn't make sense either: Really? All the CIA could come up with is a voice recording pen that they even don't have any remote control over it? I can make a better spying gadget at home!
In short, if you are a serious fan of espionage shows, Forget this and watch A Spy Among Friends!
The Bay (2019)
Rated for S01 & S02
Lisa was the main character in both first seasons, so sending her to London in S03 was shooting themselves in the foot. S03 didn't feel like previous ones. I couldn't finish the first episode.
I Care a Lot (2020)
A story without a hero
I changed my rating from 1 to 8 because after pondering about the writer's intention I realized what was the point of the story. Granted, it's not your typical Hollywood good vs evil scenario. There's much more nuance here. After witnessing how the bearded guy (whose mom is one of Marly's victims) gets treated, you wish the folks of Jennifer will teach Marly the lesson she needs. But in my opinion what the writer/director intended to convey was Marlys of the world are so evil and ruthless that even a Russian mafia boss throws the towel and agrees to join her in her evil business.
The movie also shows how "work hard" to become "successful" is just a pile of BS and most of those "successful" just didn't work hard, but bent or broke the laws.
There's no hero in this story except the bearded guy that once appears at the beginning of the movie and once at the end to kill Marla. The last scene of the movie where Marla gets killed by that guy takes you back to a Hollywood storyline and makes you feel better.
Lucy (2014)
Great beginning, ridiculous ending
Everybody understands it wasn't supposed to be a documentary or serious science fiction movie. But after the first half, it seems the creators get tired and say WTF let's go crazy. It becomes cartoonishly silly. If it wasn't the great acting and looks of Scarlett Johansson and Morgan Freeman, few people would bother to watch.
