The Good Place: Janet(s) (2018)
Deserves more than 10 stars
This is a brilliant, hilarious episode of television featuring a tour de force performance from D'Arcy Carden. Not many actors can convincingly embody their fellow castmates' well defined characters, and she does it spectacularly. Carden was seriously robbed of an Emmy nomination for this one. The script (which was nominated) is hilarious and especially features some fantastic moments for Jason-Janet. It's also a huge episode that sets up the rest of the season.
Easily one of my favorite episodes of the series to date. And I cannot emphasize this enough: D'ARCY. DESERVED. AN. EMMY.
iZombie (2015)
The Most Pleasant Surprise of 2015 thus far
(tried to keep it relatively spoiler free, but a few things slipped through)
Let me start out by saying zombie shows are not my usual cup of tea. I find The Walking Dead mentally disturbing. If you are looking for pure gore and violence, this will be a disappointment.
If iZombie did not air immediately after The Flash, I likely would not have tuned in. But, as I did not want to get up and change the channel, I decided to tune in. I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw, and each week, as I tune in again, I have become more and more satisfied with this show.
Rose McIver's excellent portrayal of Liv has shown me what a fantastic, versatile actress she is. I was only previously familiar with her work on Once Upon a Time. Because of this show, I may find myself watching other TV shows and films featuring her. The supporting cast is able to hold their own, too--Rahul Kohli, David Anders, and Malcolm Goodwin are exceptionally delightful.
Throughout the first half of the series, it seemed the only thing dragging the show was Major Lilywhite, Liv's ex-boyfriend. However, by having him accidentally get brought into Blaine's brain harvesting scheme, his storyline has been made far more compelling.
The season finale is also one of the finest finales I have seen in a long time. After that finale, there is little doubt that this show needed and deserved to be renewed.
There is so much to like in this show: witty writing, excellent acting, intriguing storyline. While I remember rolling my eyes at the commercials for this, I now am eagerly awaiting the second season. While it's not for everyone, I suggest giving it a chance before condemning it.
Reign (2013)
Enjoy this show for what it is
(At this point in time, I have seen only season one and two episodes of season 2).
I have been perusing the reviews section for this show on IMDb, and I've seen a lot of lower reviews due to the fact that it is not historically accurate. From what I've seen, I see this was not their intention. This is categorized (appropriately) as a Drama and Fantasy series. Nowhere are they claiming this is historical fiction. Yes, it is loosely based on actual people, but, like most movies and TV shows, they decided to take creative liberty. If you are looking for something historically accurate, this is not a good fit for you.
However, if you are looking for a bit of a guilty pleasure, I would recommend this. It had me hooked from the start. I love the fantasy twists the show throws in. The acting is pretty good, and I think if you go in without expecting historical accuracy, you will be pleasantly surprised.
