The Witcher: Blood Origin (2022)
Was looking forward to it, but I'm deeply disappointed
The series had a lot of potential, with a talented cast. However, the execution was poor and the series ended up being a waste of time. One of the biggest issues with the series was the flimsy plot. It was thin and poorly developed, with little coherence or logic. This made it difficult to get invested in the story or care about what was happening.
Another problem was characters being one-dimensional. Despite the talented cast, the characters were shallow and poorly written, lacking depth or complexity. This was especially disappointing in the case of Michelle Yeoh's character, who had the potential for a more interesting and multi-faceted role but was instead reduced to a flat, unengaging character.
The dialogue in the series was also a major issue. It was often clumsy and forced, with characters spouting off exposition or making awkward small talk instead of having natural conversations. This further contributed to the shallow and unengaging nature of the series.
Overall, this Witcher series was a major disappointment. The flimsy plot, one-dimensional characters, and poor dialogue made it difficult to get invested in the story. I would not recommend this series to Witcher fans especially, but it's hard to watch either way.
Westworld: Fidelity (2022)
Season 4 just keeps on giving
I keep telling my friends that if Season 4 keeps up the quality until the end, they'll have to come back to the show, while worrying that they'll mess up. I've been saying this since episode 3, but since then it just keeps on giving. It's really hard to put into words what I feel about this season so far - the pacing is great, the reveals feel meticulously planned to keep us at the edge of our seats while being organic and authentic. This episode was fantastic, balancing darkness and hope, artificialness and humanity on a tightrope. Similarly thought provoking and emotionally engaging to the previous episodes, but like what I've said in the beginning, it feels like they keep topping themselves with every episode. It feels like it can't get any better than this, but I've said the same thing last week and the week before that...
