Dexter: New Blood: Unfair Game (2021)
Dexter goes for a walk in the snow
Very boring episode in which very little of substance happens until the end. Seemed as though the writers needed to stretch out the series a bit so had Dexter wander around in the woods for 40 minutes.
And the cop... wow, she solved the bay harbour butcher case that tots flummoxed Miami PD in 10 minutes by using google.
Come on! You can do better.
The Master (2012)
Emperors new clothes
The Guardian Review described this film as dealing with contentious themes. It doesn't. It's beautiful to look at but it's very drear. I really struggled to give it my attention. I only stick with it because I paid £2.49 to Amazon to watch it.
Furthermore, the musical score at times is bone curdling. I get that it's trying to give you a glimpse of what it's like to be mentally unbalanced, but it's also very annoying.
Too much mumbling and poor enunciation on the part of the actors don't help.
The Strangers (2008)
Crap
This film has no character development, no suspense, no plot and NO POINT. It's way over marked.
The Personal History of David Copperfield (2019)
Ruined plot
Too many liberties taken with the original dickens. A pretty awful pantomime version of a great story.
The Stranger (2020)
Lazy writing
Yet another lazy drama where people behave in completely unrealistic and bizarre ways. Lots of long dreary chase scenes have been added to pad it out. This is another one of those dramas where naff plot twists are a substitute for a coherent story. Don't bother. Got sucked in by promising first episode only to be left feeling very irritated with it.
Chernobyl (2019)
Superb and compelling
This is the best drama I have seen in years. Well acted and very evocative of the era. Every episode has me gripped. Fascinating if alarming story.
Michael Inside (2017)
Unremittingly bleak
This film left me thoroughly depressed. Well acted and put together, but there's no way I'd sit through it again.
Black Mirror: Bandersnatch (2018)
Repetitive and a bit dull
Call me old fashioned but I prefer a straightforward linear story. The choice element of this show is a bit too gimmicky for me. I got bored of having to constantly go back and make different choices. When I started watching the show I wondered if I'd be inspired to watch the show over and over to discover different endings, By the time I finished watching I was thinking 'in the name of god just end!'.
Dark Heart (2016)
Very mediocre
The plot lines are ok but the show is let down by poor acting and 2 dimensional characters. Tom Riley isn't very convincing as a tough cop who plays fast and loose with the rules and it seems he's unable to act without something in his hands.
Outlaw King (2018)
Dull quiet king more like
Chris Pine is about as rousing as a bit of limp lettuce. A very dull portrayal of an interesting period of Anglo-Scots history.
The Sense of an Ending (2017)
A very cold film
What a waste of a great cast. This characters are all rather unpleasant. The story is drawn out and a bit dull. The focal point of the plot is pointless and overall the film is cold and distant.
Limitless (2015)
He's a bit thick
This is an alright film, not great and not awful. The main problem it has it that it's supposed to revolve around a 'smart pill'. But the main character who takes the pill makes some really stupid and senseless decisions early on. He might as well have not bothered taking the pill!
Indignation (2016)
I gave up
Too odd for me. None of the characters have clear motivations. They just behave oddly, create angst and over react to everything. Life really isn't as difficult as these folks make it. Made it to 50 mins then just thought life's too short for this.?
Bodyguard (2018)
OK, but a bit over hyped
I found this all a bit formulaic and unexceptional. Hero trying to find the truth ends up the chief suspect. A fairly typical pot boiler plot.
Keeley Hawes was the best thing in it and I kind of lost interest once she exited stage left.
I think a lot of folks have got carried away with this one. It's alright but it's not exceptional.
Billionaire Boys Club (2018)
I got bored...
This is a pretty poor film. The narrative is quite confused and the characters are uniformly dull and pretty cliched. Not a patch on films like margin call and boiler room.
Roman J. Israel, Esq. (2017)
Starts well but...
This is one of those films that draws you in at the start. Intriguing story and good acting. Then half way through, it's like a different writer/director takes over and when it's over, your left thinking did I just waste two hours of my life on this?
Safe (2018)
Daft characters
Basically a story based around a tiresome girl who makes stupid decisions, supported by characters who also seem to lack any sense of reason. Loved Dexter, but Hall seems to have put too much energy into getting his accent right so his acting seemed to slightly miss the mark on this one. Disappointing.
