Nefarious (2023)
Didn't initially want to watch it, but so glad I did!
I am not a horror fan. But this thriller didn't have the usual horror tropes I so hate of constant jump scares and visceral gore clumsily slapped together to make up for a weak plot.
Most of the movie is a terrifying conversation with a being of pure evil. The conversation reminded me a great deal of the Screwtape Letters by CS Lewis, but in a more harrowing context.
The acting is absolutely superb. The actor who plays Edward/Nefarious does an excellent job.
If you don't believe in demons, this movie might have you second guessing that. If you do believe in demons, prepare for a thriller which will keep you on the edge of your seat.
WandaVision (2021)
So many questions...you people need to pay more attention
Not a show for those who half-watch while doing other stuff. If you pay close attention, it has a lighthearted, cheesy veneer, but it's actually quite tense. Something is obviously wrong--from the random splashes of colour, the ironman-coloured toy helicopter, the way Vision's boss seemed to magically suddenly decide to leave and promote Vision, the Hydra symbol on a watch, the fact that neither Vision nor Wanda seem to have the faintest notion how they got there, and, of course, the voice asking "who did this to you, Wanda?"
I am quite sure this show is going to take a very dark turn if you nay-sayers can just hang it there.
Polycarp (2015)
Best Christian Film I have seen yet
If you are looking for stunning visual effects and dramatic action sequences, this may not be the film for you. However, if you, like me, are looking for moving, challenging Christian films with a strong message and deep, engaging characters, you couldn't find better. The CGI is imperfect, as may be expected considering the budget they had to work with, but does come across as cheesy or phony looking-- just a little fuzzy. The acting is excellent and the script could not be better. The characters are engaging and the set is fantastic. I only hope the Henlines make more films soon because they are masters of historical fiction.
