Seperti Hujan yang Jatuh ke Bumi (2020)
Sweet Movie
I just don't get the reviewers! No. The Movie is no Great Gatsby, but this is Netflix for crying out loud. It seems like, when reading a lot of the reviews for movies on Netflix everyone wants perfection...Champaign on a beer bottle budget. Jeeze. Grow up. This is a simple little love story abut two people finding each other when they are right beside each other all along. The visuals are lovely, Indonesia is shown at its most majestic and finest. The characters portray their role, though I agree the lead female appears a bit weak at times in her portrayal of her role. But that could be a weakness is directing....almost anything. The emotion between parties appears genuine and all and all it was a pleasant way to pass a bit of time. It won't win any Emmys...but I don't think it was supposed to. I think it was just supposed to entertain and judged from that standpoint, it knocked it out of the park.
It Had to Be You (2015)
Delightful RomCom!
As usual, I don't understand the reviews on this site. This movie was much much better than the rating listed! Delightfully written, acted and the chemistry between the two leads was so believable. I'm pretty jaded about romance stories, but I was quietly cheering at the end! Must see!
Extinction (2018)
Outstanding entertainment
This is not a masterpiece of science fiction but it a very entertaining well acted story. I'm not sure why the ratings are so low, I've seen much much worse. But if you want a good story, we'll told and acted, give it a chance!
Widow's Walk (2019)
Excellent Storytellin
It's sad seeing all the critical reviews here. I think people have become some dependent upon being spoon fed garbage they don't recognize a true gift when shown them. This movie takes time to tell it's story but it does so beautifully. You just have to be awake and paying attention to recognize it. Give it a try. But keep your mind and heart open to a way of life not jammed full of noise and flashing lights. Like the grieving and eventual healing that takes place in the movie, emotions take time to evolve and that is what this movie will lead you through, carefully and and thoroughly. If you give it the time.
Swinging Safari (2018)
Funny, but don't take it seriously!
This film is a gem. I can only think that the poor reviews were from folks who tried to take it seriously, when clearly the whole point of the film was not to. I enjoyed it!
Ad Astra (2019)
I don't recommend it
I had just finished COSMOS, which received all sorts of online hate reviews and I LOVED it and then sat with my husband to watch AD ASTRA and I HATED it. Well, no I didn't hate it....it left me mostly indifferent with a slightly negative curl toward a wasted evening. Both films were pretty slow and drawn out in their own way but the difference was, I cared about what was happening to the characters in COSMOS and after about 35 minutes of viewing AD ASTRA the complete opposite was happening. I will leave it at that, with just this more, if you are viewing AA for Tommy Lee Jones or Donald Sutherland, forget it; neither Actor is allowed enough screen time to formulate either love or hate which is a crying pity in my book.
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018)
Don't pay attention to a rating below 10!
Oh for Heaven's sake! I don't know why folks will watch a movie (an action that is by its very nature is pure escapism and then get upset when they find the movie meets the definition completely. If you liked the first Mama Mia, I hope you will like the second; I did, immensely! I was transported back to Kalokari, surrounded by all the fictional characters and lovely fictional situations that were clever continuations from the first movie. I was also disappointed that Donna wasn't present and actually rebelled at first to the tears that came when she did appear (appropriately) at the climax of the film. Exquisite emotions from beginning to end. Jump in and just go for it, this film will not disappoint if you are looking for what it offers (and it does deliver exactly what it promised!): entertainment, pure and simple with escapism to a Greek paradise where all our original (and a few new) characters continue to live their movie-tale lives! I loved it! I think if you are drawn to the movie for the right reasons (to be entertained) you will too!
Taeksi woonjunsa (2017)
Exciting, educational and even uplifting!
A Seoul taxi driver accepts a fare from a German reporter to drive him to Gwangju so a reported uprising in that city can be recorded. Upon arriving, both men find the situation in Gwangju to be dire with people being shot and beaten in the street by military soldiers and the government attempting to isolate and manipulate the news being reported to the rest of the Country. Brutally realistic at times, the story shows how a group of taxi drivers are instrumental in getting this story recorded so it can be shown to the world. Man-seob (SONG Kang-ho), (the Seoul driver responsible for initially taking the reporter to Gwangju) goes from only being concerned with his own life and safety to that of a hero. The massacre that takes place both during and after the attempted protest is difficult but necessary to the story and the last 45 minutes or so of this movie will have you on the edge of your seat as you see the sacrifices made to get the film footage out of the city.
Shinbu sueob (2004)
A story of disrespect and disregard for what Love really is!
I was disappointed and furious with this movie by the ending. While I had hoped that these two (searching) people, would find a true, DEVINE love, all that was realized was lust. Yep. Lust wins. I think I could have accepted it if the two individuals had come to an honest realization of what love and devotion was and then made a conscious decision to each other, (which didn't have to preclude their love for God.....) Love is Love. And I've been taught God is the greatest love of all. But all this movie does is turn an honest searching and loving young man who is on the path to a lifetime serving God into a bumbling idiot who can not control his "desires". And the girl. Oh please. She was a horror from the beginning her totally insulting irreverence to anything good or true. She mocks the Faith of the young man, and instead of his being steadfast and perhaps even showing her the true Light of life, he becomes just another fallen man, unable to resist the twitching of a female; he must accept he has "sinned" and turn away from the true Love his life. Oh, and I must mention, the film even positions Our Blessed Mother against the heroin of the story...and yup....the twitching insolent female beats our Lady at every turn. I am most disappointed that the young ones of our society will view the film and see it as a victory for what the film's definition of "true love" is. There is no love, no romance, no sacrifice and dedication between two people in Love, no expression of "true love". And even though I was pretty disgusted watching this story play out, I kept holding out that in the end, .maybe there would be some redeeming quality to the woman, something that would make her worthy of the young seminarian turning his back on his vocation. And what were we left with? Her again drinking the Holy Water directly from the basin, not because she was thirsty, this act had remained what is was from the beginning of the movie....and act of insolence and disrespect. Don't waste your time with this story, but if you do, please post your opinions somewhere so the public isn't left only with the movie's opinion on the subject of "Devine" Love.
Wake Up Sid (2009)
Absolutely Charming
This is a darling of a movie. Completely opposite of the typical "Bollywood" movie, it is creative, engaging and entertaining. I became a fan of the lead actor, playing Sid, when he appeared in Sawaya. Although that movie was considered a flop, it too, was mesmerizing. Sid, however, was not the same flight into romantic fantasy, it was a charming picture of youth, maturation and true love. Rent this movie...you won't be disappointed and will come away refreshed and feeling happy!
Second Coming (2014)
Worth the wait
If you can wait out the many pauses present in this movie, you will be slightly astonished at the end. There's been a lot written about this film's poor sound quality and the ability to understand the actors' spoken words. I would suggest that if you are having trouble, or unfamiliar with the Jamaican/Cockny combined accent,, you turn on your subtitles or close captioning! Read the dialogue. It's actually quite interesting seeing how the language is expressed by the actors. I also found it amazing to watch the subject family live, interact and deal with life and those curves it can and may through. Very, very convincing and realistic acting. The father/son, mother/son and even husband/wife interactions are anything but static-----very real and touching. Even the actions and reactions of the extended family seem genuine. Although there were minutes I did find myself frustrated by the long pauses in dialogue and action, once I realized they were there to help tell the story, I used those pauses to examine the scenery and cinematography as presented as well as reflect upon some of the dialogue, as it was spoken. You !can! make it through this movie and I feel it it is worth it, but I will admit, it is not everybody's cup of tea.
Apartment Troubles (2014)
Animal cruelty lovers sympathize
I was rather excited at what seemed to be a hopeful start to this movie. Relative unknowns in the lead, but talented, fresh and with apparent acting talent, (albeit obviously earlier in their careers). But we just don't need another stupid" but eager to learn youngster story. Not 1/3 the way into the movie one begins to get a foreboding that these two "roomies" don't have the maturity to be trusted with a pet cat without ominous results. Cats. Probably the toughest of the domesticated pets anyone could be charged with the care of. Well. The foreboding was accurate. In spite of the "passionate grieving" exhibited by one of the girls, the other (or both to be more accurate, by sheer neglect) manage to kill a "pet" cat through sheer stupidity. In an age where our society needs only an on screen example/excuse to act injuriously toward a more helpless creature, this movie provides that example with pride. This movie appears to be a "growth" through maturation process story. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to matter that the growth is exemplified by "innocent mistakes" such as smothering a helpless creature in gold paint. I couldn't rate the movie lower than the 5 I gave it....after all, they didn't kill a child. Hollywood is saving that "coming of age" for another storyline, I guess.
