EXCELLENT!!!!!
8 May 2021
This is the kind of movie "the rest of us" have been waiting for--no CGI, no auteur sensibilities--just good story telling with tons of belly laughs. We were pleasantly surprised at the depth of Crystal's performance. Both of us immediately thought Oscar Worthy. And, who doesn't love Tiffany Haddish?!?!?!?!

Terrible Movie!!!!
22 November 2018
Easily one of the worst movies I have ever seen! The writing, the directing, the editing, the casting are all supremely BAD! Pointless, WITH gaping plot holes. I REALLY want my 2+ hours back.

Great Film
10 December 2016
Loved this movie. It's smart, rapid fire dialog reminded me of The West Wing. Jessica Chastain is terrific as a woman playing the man's game of high stakes politics. Supporting cast is uniformly first rate.

The issue she lobbies for happens to be gun control, it could be anything and the plot would still move forward, in tact, with all the snappy dialog and chess like maneuvering just fascinating to watch and try to second guess. Too bad Neanderthal 2nd Amendment purists predicate their ratings on the issue, not the actual film.

Should be an Oscar contender for screenplay, Lead Actress and Direction.

Don't miss this exquisite piece of film-making. If you're tired of all the comic book remakes and non-stop, pointless action films, this is your movie.

Support good film-making!!!

Tremendous achievement
15 October 2016
What a tremendous achievement for Amazon! So glad I am a Prime member and received notice about this series. The story is gripping, Thornton plays the flawed hero to perfection. Supporting characters are all interesting and the actors imbue them with subtle distinctiveness.

Beautifully shot, with Venice and Los Angeles a perfect backdrop.

The special effects, particularly in the opening sequence, are amazing and truly special. They enhance the drama rather than substitute for the writer's lack of story or plot, which is often the case,

Can't wait to see if there's a second season.

Wow! A perfect 10.

Powerful, gritty, raw, thoughtful
11 September 2016
I don't understand why this film isn't getting higher ratings. It is terrific. Unlike the first reviewer, I welcomed the "political inserts" as a chance to hear different viewpoints and to ground the story into reality. The gritty setting and performances are very impressive and make for an unusual and welcome change from the typical fare that's available.

It has a little Thelma and Louise vibe that I enjoyed. There's gentle, not forced, humor.

Jeff Bridges has added another great, honest portrayal to his solid body of work.

Chris Pine proves he's got real range with this performance. Not once did I think it was Captain Kirk speaking those lines.

All the small, supporting roles are really fleshed out characters. In a novel, it would have taken pages to provide their backstories. Here, the actors inhabit their characters so fully with their performances, it adds a richness and depth to the film that is typically missing from Hollywood's constant supply of remakes.

See it!!!!

Underwritten piece of crap
2 June 2015
Underwritten piece of crap. Do producers think we are so starved to see "senior" actors we'll accept anything? Waste of a great cast.

I'm not one of those people who live for the slip up, and can't wait to find errors. But, I was very annoyed when the vet repeatedly referred to Hazel, her dog, using male pronouns. I kept waiting for Carol to call the vet on her insensitivity. Later, Carol, herself, refers to Hazel using male pronouns. Didn't anyone watch this movie before it was released????

While it was useful shorthand, I didn't appreciate the repetitive, stereotypical Bridge games. Probably another victim of the dearth of ideas possessed by the writing staff.
