True Detective (2014)
True Detective - Night Country
This convoluted story brought down the whole True Detective franchise. We all know True Detective season 1 was one of the best series of all time. It has steadily declined each season. But season 4 crashed and burned. Jodie Foster couldn't save it because she was part of the problem. Waste of time.
Watch season 1 over again and save yourself from this season. If you do chose to watch it watch episode 1 and the final episode. That's all you need. The episodes in the middle add little to nothing to help save this the worse of the worse season 4 of True Detective.
Until Rust and Marty come back this franchise might need to end.
Young Sheldon (2017)
Season 6 Better without young Sheldon.
The cuteness is gone and what remains is stiff and boring. YS has lost his charm but the stories about other family members are carrying the show. The less YS is in the show the better.
Georgie's impending fatherhood, problems in the Cooper marriage and Missy's problems being recognized by her own family carry the narrative while YS walks in drops a boring fact and leaves.
I will watch it out of need to see what happens when the end comes. Georgie and Missy can carry the kids part of the show and the parents and me-maw are still holding their own. If they keep YS to the sidelines this show still can still be entertaining.
Uncharted (2022)
Tom Holland is too good for this
I'm afraid Devil All the Time has set a very high standard for judging Tom's choice of projects. After Devil we know he can really act. Spider-Man gave him the fame and money to make really well made "small" movies. This is neither "small" or well made.
Monsters Inside: The 24 Faces of Billy Milligan (2021)
Of interest but.....
The director really got in the way of this series. The interview locations, the music and director tricks were distracting.
I See You (2019)
Director flaw
Enough said about the story but a thriller needs breaks. The music makes every scene look as if something ominous could happen. I was tired of being "thrilled" less than half way through. Please at least some normalcy amid the chaos.
The Devil All the Time (2020)
If Tom Holland wore his Spider-Man costume this is #1
The Devil all the Time has the feel of a Coen Brothers movie without the humor. I agree with one review that said this would have been better served as a mini-series. I think the film held up well on its own but it did leave a lot of juicy characters with a lot of juicy character development left on the table. I want to know more about all of them except the bullies.
This film drew me back 3 times so far and I'm getting the urge again. I won't give a synopsis of the story because that's been done but I will say it you want to see hard life where sometimes there's no winners this might be for you. These are soldiers, con men, serial killers, prostitution, preachers from hell intertwined with good religious people just trying to survive.
