Proof (2015)

One of the few shows I can't wait to tune in for each and every week.

This is one of the few shows on television at the moment I literally can't wait to tune in for each week and watch the clock not wanting it to end. The premise/plot of the show is captivating and established in a realistic setting in world similar enough to our own to allow any fictional elements to be believable. The characters are like-able even though the lead comes off as hard and somewhat non personable. Her overly skeptic nature and beliefs only add to the suspense in situations in which even her full attention is focused and events that she ultimately questions. This is really well done in my opinion so far and completely different than anything else on TV. It's not a procedural and instead is serialized with episodes that have a clear beginning, middle and end that build up the story line. Hope this one makes it for season 2, although the concepts are a bit more complex/controversial for most Americans to contemplate while enjoying a television show so I wont hold my breathe.

Dark Matter (2015–2017)
10/10
Loving it so far, tons of potential and intrigue...Finally a serialized Space Opera
11 July 2015
Dark Matter how a ton of potential so far, even through 5 episodes it's clearly evident that this show can go anywhere as no limits or boundaries have been defined. Quit complaining and bashing and give the characters some time to develop. What's the fun of flying on missions across the Universe, exploring new planets and stumbling upon new alien races if you have no idea who the characters are and have no attachment/relation to any of them. That's what made shows like Stargate SG1/Atlantis, BSG and Lost so great. It was the characters of the show that made the mystery so suspenseful and what made every episode worth tuning into regardless of how lame the plot was for a particular episode or if it was "filler" or not. I couldn't even fathom an SGA without McKay and Shepherd, an SG1 without at least a Jack or a Daniel. The 3 seasons in which one or the other was missing was only held up by the others presence. I really hope this show creates at least a few core group of characters that make you really want to root for. That was part of the problem with SGU until towards the end of season 2. It made many of the lead characters too unlikable or unrelatable. It's okay if you want to humanize your characters by revealing their flaws, but don't do it to the point in which it dehumanizes them so that by the time they're even partially eligible for any sort of redemption in the audiences eyes it's too late and the series is cancelled. I just hope this show doesn't make the mistake of waiting too long to establish a connection with its characters to the audience or drag out establishing an actual team that has got each other's backs above stabbing each other in the back. If the crew can create a sense of family aboard the ship it will go a long way in retaining/attracting the necessary audience to justify renewal. If it can succeed in that aspect then the mysterious and adventurous elements it has planned will have an opportunity to pan out as well as the brand new universe it wants to create. Killjoys may not have the same kind of potential as DM, but through 4 episodes it has created a foundation of family within the crew and given you a team you really want to root for. Dark Matter has more characters that started out not even knowing who they were, so obviously it should take a little longer to establish, just not too long before the show even gets to leave the runway. After episodes 6 and 7 it should hopefully start to come together so that 2nd half of the season can give the audience direction and an adventure to anticipate while still leaving room for some surprises and plot twists. PLEASE DON'T SCREW THIS UP! Hopefully the writers/creators have learned a thing or two from past shows like SGU and Firefly regarding what it takes to captivate/change the mind your audience BEFORE ITS TOO LATE! The characters are what will ultimately make or break the show, regardless of how amazing or not the plot in store is!
