Sicario: Day of the Soldado (2018)
Falls short of the original, but still a great film
Sicario: Day of the Soldado is a movie that clings on to the best elements of the original, but was not brave enough to try something new. The score, cinematography and the performances were spot on, keeping the viewers on the edge of their seats, however the story telling falls slightly short. Despite the writer being the same for the both the movies, this movie lacks cohesiveness as there is too much going on. Also unlike the first, with Emily Blunt's character, there is no one for the viewers to anchor to or walk them through the movie. Despite all that, there is still the same toughness and tension throughout the movie and the score was brilliant even without the late Johann Johannsson.
To conclude, the movie is a visual treat with some brilliantly choreographed action sequences and is a must watch if you are a fan of the original.
Blade Runner 2049 (2017)
A sequel done the right way...
One of the rare occasions when a sequel surpasses the original. And all the more difficult in this case, since the original is a cult classic. Denis Villeneuve was the perfect choice to direct the sequel and he did not disappoint, rather he exceeded expectations. No one could have played Mr. K better than Ryan Gosling, who is yet to deliver a poor performance. But the standout of this film is definitely is the cinematography, by Roger Deakins, who at least deserves a nomination if not the Oscar itself.
The movie follows a similar vibe to the original in terms of lighting, pace and storytelling. There are no pointless action sequences or unnecessary exaggerations. It is rather pretty grounded for a sci-fi. It is a proper noir film where one thing leads to another in an investigation undertaken by the protagonist. There are no pointless dialogues and forced comedic scenes. The plot gains depth in such a subtle manner, you won't feel that you are being filled in with too much information in such a limited time frame. Despite some of the characters having limited screen time, they're purpose is well understood as they are constantly mentioned throughout the film. The only drawback is that there are a few build-ups that lead to nothing.
All in all, a phenomenal movie that keeps you on the edge of your seat and will probably be a classic in the future.
Mr. Nobody (2009)
Genius
A film that makes you think. A film you wont forget for a long time. this film is spectacular in so many aspects, right from the plot to the screenplay to the casting and the music. if you are looking for a major fantasy or sci-fi plot, you will be disappointed. The fantasy genre acts only as a catalyst for this romance, drama movie.
Its a shame that this movie wasn't nominated for any Oscar award. This movie will show how great of an actor Jared Leto is. Its unbelievable how well he plays all the versions of the character with such little screen time for each of them. the rest of the caste too were phenomenal. the film includes everything one could ask for: humour, touching, surreal, thrill...
As every film, this too has some flaws, but they can easily be overlooked due to the uniqueness of the film. You will surely not regret watching it.
12 Angry Men (1957)
excellent
Wow, just wow.A brilliant film set in the right tone, no unnecessary scenes or waste of time. It is is a simple plot that will ultimately blow your mind. I watched this film recently and it was difficult in the beginning to adjust to it as it is in black and white. But soon the movie just caught my attention and I completely forgot about it being in black and white.
A very well written script focusing on every detail and there is almost no sign of it being fictional. It is wonderful how the entire movie was set in just one room and doesn't bore the audience or one minute. The acting was phenomenal from everyone and they knew that the movie was going to be special in their career.
A must watch for everyone.
