The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane (1976)
Jodie and Martin show their dark side
I see where Jodie Foster gets her strong side for her more recent films. She plays a 13 year old who can make it on her own in a way I have never seen before. Antiestablishment yet capitalist enough to know how to survive the plot shows her force full but not sassy. Martin Sheen lets us know his character is a sneeze from the start. Just about everything he does or says makes you want to bury the character alive. The film does have that 70's look but the drama is timeless. OK, maybe I am a hopeless Jodie and Martin fan, but this DVD definitely needs more attention. However the DVD should have a rating more strict than PG. I wouldn't want my kids acting like this.
The Simple Life (2003)
Young and rich meet trailer parks
I gave it 5 out of 10 in the realm of reality shows. The second season is just an extension of the first season. The premise is two young rich women give up their money and plastic to make it on their own touring the country in a pink pickup truck and a small trailer home just big enough for two. They degrade the people trying to help them and fail at the jobs they get on the way. The series is a great promotion for the Hilton holdings (tip: sell.) The first episode (2:1) has illusions to the futures of these actresses. As Paris drives the vehicles for the first time she exclaims "It's so big!" spingboarding her to her film debute in One Night in Paris. Nicole gets practice biting the hand that feeds her for her 2005 film Kids in America. I know if I was on my way I wouldn't be buying $400 K worth of Brooks Brothers and Floorsheim rather than watches and jewelry I could pawn on the way. I was entertained because they are cute even though they can't act their way out of a cow pie. By the way, this is being repeated on the E! channel.
Cheerleader Nation (2006)
A believable reality show if high school cheerleaders are real.
I gave it a 9 in the realm of reality shows. These people can't be acting or reading scripts because it sometimes is so bad that it is great. The high school girls take you through the range of emotions only high school girls could do. The coaches drive them hard and expect a lot, but are real pals when it is all over. However, if you want polished physical performances stick to the Olympics. But I enjoy the more real tragedies and triumphs this series captures. A plus is the bonding outside the practices and performances. Maybe I'm a softy because I never had a daughter but I enjoyed every broadcast so far. OK, I admit I like Lifetime. Give it a try, you will only loose thirty minutes if I'm wrong. And if you miss one it is on multiple times during the week.
