True Detective: Night Country: Part 1 (2024)
Season 4, Episode 1
3/10
really weak so far...
15 January 2024
Watched the first episode of True Detective Season 4 just now. Its pretty weak so far. The music stinks, the characters are paper thin and cringy. The story seems to be a blend of John Carpenters the Thing mixed in with some True Detective season 1 supernatural elements and the usual social drama.

The whole thing feels like a paint-by-numbers production with unlikable, repelling characters and poor story flow. I was really looking forward to this. But its really hard to get emotionally invested or even care for wooden, girlboss characters like this. Who act like its some high testosterone 70s cop show.

Season 4 seems off to a really bad start. Better luck next time.

Killers Of The Flower Moon is a perfect movie!
23 December 2023
Killers of the Flower Moon is right up there with Casino, Taxi Driver and Good Fellas. Its perfect from start to finish with stellar acting. I watched this Movie twice in a row, just to get all the little details that you miss during the first watch. Its flawless, maybe except for the amusing paddle break faux pas. Killers is easily movie of the year 2023. No contest. Where Oppenheimer came across as a highly polished, anemic 3 hours Car Commercial, Killers delivers actual emotional depth and organic flow of story.

All you heartless, brainless 1/10's. Yadda yadda, "worst movie of my life". "My wife hated every second". There is probably no hope for you :D

In closing Killers of the Flower Moon is beautiful next level cinema, and in time it will be remembered as one of the greatest movies ever made. Not a shadow of a doubt about that. If you haven't already. Go see it. Bring time, snacks and a soft cushion for your keister. Movies do not get any better than this.

This was MLES better than the Fede Alvarez cringe
10 May 2023
Just came here to say that Evil Dead Rise was MILES better than the lame Fede Alvarez flick from a few years ago. This movie here is actually inspired, well written and can stand on its own legs. Its imaginative too. And doesn't assume its audience is stupid. Yup, no hut in the woods rehash. Instead we get a somewhat new story and setting with Evil Dead Rise.

I saw some Aliens. And some The Shining in there. But that's okay. You could say its a homage. Like the ending to this movie feels much like a showdown in an 80s horror film.

All in all Evil Dead Rise is not perfect. Its a bit clumsy here and there. But it stands leap and bounds above most modern Horror movies. Its unapologetic as can be.

Yeah maybe a demon rape scene is a no go these days.

Anyway Evil Dead Rise is fresh enough and well worth your time and money. 9/10. Go see it if you haven't yet!

Wednesday (2022– )
1/10
uncharming and lame
16 December 2022
Casting is the central problem with this show. The new Gomez doesn't fit the role. At all. And the new Wednesday simply lacks charm. All her scenes feel forced with very poor timing. She desperately tries to not blink, then does it anyway. Out of the three Wednesdays so far she is by far the worst. And the most wooden too. I thought Wednesdays roomie in this show showed a much better performance of bringing her own character to life.

Music is great. Danny Elfman never disappoints. Creature design is fresh and creative. But the acting is all over the place. There is no chemistry between the main characters. And thus the whole show feels forced and redundant. I Could have worked with a more charming cast. Who knows. Wont finish because its way too uncharming and lame.

Better luck for Beetlejuice 2!

Hellraiser (2022)
3/10
Any other sequel without Clive Barker directing / writing is a waste of time.
11 October 2022
Lets face it. Any other sequel without Clive Barker directing / writing is a waste of time. Period.

After seeing "The Nighthouse" i already knew that this director wouldn't be able to pull a Hellraiser movie off. But direction isn't the only thing that disappointed here. The writing was poor. The characters were unlikable to the point where you don't really care what happens to them. Like the expendable cast of any slasher movie / meets Hellraiser.

The story here didn't offer anything new beyond the core themes established by Clive Barker. The Soundtrack of Hellraiser 2022 didn't either.

Add poor story progression, absurd dialogues and general lack of inspiration, and you end up with this turd.

The only thing that was somewhat positive was the convincing production / creature design. Too bad everything else sucked. Better luck next time!

Corny nonsense
30 September 2022
The unbearable cringe of massive overacting would have been a proper title for this flick. Anyway "Massive Talent" is the typical Nicolas Cage flick, only now he plays his corny self-indulgent self. Think thats a lityle gimmicky? I think it surely is. And of course there is lots of drama out of nowhere without any real substance. Nonchalantly delivered with Nicolas Cage's own brand of trademark overacting. Annoying, predictable, loud, cringy and ultimately cliched. Watching paint dry for 2 hours would have been a whole lot more entertaining. Next time this guy has a new movie out i will gladly watch something else.

The latest Sam Raimi movie about magic and monsters and stuff
22 June 2022
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was an entertaining popcorn movie. While this wasn't the worst movie i've seen this year, there were lots of issues with it. Lets nitpick.

First of all, if you are a fan of the actual Marvel Comics, there isn't much to marvel here. Same as all the other MCU flicks this is first and foremost an attempt to grab some cash from normies. But lets go into detail. Shuma Gorath at the beginning came out so well, its a shame he didn't get more screen time.

Some of the scenes throughout this movie were awfully flat and unimaginative. Casting is horrible in places.

Instead of casting Bruce Campbell as the easter egg, they should have given him the role of Reed Richards. The actual guy who plays Mr. Fantastic absolutely doesn't nail it. The actress who plays the Scarlet Witch isn't sinister enough. And like many other MCU actors she simply lacks the physicality for the role. The CGI throughout the film, especially the magic effects are stale, unimaginative and boring. We've seen these swirling glow effects a million times already in various movies and games. Some of the dialogue as in most MCU movies is just downright cringy.

On the bright side it was entertaining to see some of the Sam Raimi Evil Dead cinematography again! But i fee like it would have been nicer if this guy would have actually made a NEW Evil Dead movie instead!

So all in all Dr. Strange 2 is mildly entertaining. Not sure if i will be back for part 3. Probably.

The Batman (2022)

this Batman sucked balls
16 June 2022
This drawn out movie tries hard to make you think the makers actually cared about the source material at hand. For that purpose they tried to capture the DC Detective Comics narrative. The sad truth however is, this is just the next uninspired hollywood rubberbird that bastardizes the beloved Comic Book franchise even further. The Batman 2022 solely exists to grab some more money from you. Do yourself a favor, read the classic comics & graphic novels instead! More soul, less cringe.

Completely brain dead cartoon version of history
9 February 2022
Great cast. Solid acting. And that one time compressed battlefield scene that sums up the horrors of World War I. That's where the pros stop and the cons begin. The King's Man is a completely brain dead cartoon version of history.

And sadly this movie leaves no modern cinema cliche untouched. The action scenes are so over the top and removed from reality, that in turn the viewer gets completely alienated with whats going on, on screen.

An actual cartoon show with drawn cats and mice would have been a more fitting medium for the material at hand.

denis villeneuve can't tell stories
25 December 2021
Almost every scene in Dune 2021 is visually impressive. Alas there is no tension, no emotion, no passion here. Fight scenes are weak and faint as a sand fart. And in all honesty denis villeneuve can't tell stories.

Arcane (2021– )

Unoriginal and devoid of identity
10 December 2021
Arcane: League of Legends has no identity of its own. Everything seems to be lifted from Batman, Blizzard's Warcraft, Star Wars, Final Fantasy and everything in between. Just like its target audience the whole thing struggles hard to fill the void of no own identity. To mask that glaring deficit, we get a lot of yelling, explosions and senseless shooting. Someone is clearly unhappy with their existence and place in time here. None of the characters are original, interesting or likable. And if that won't alienate you, the cheesy music will.

On a purely technical side, some of the artistic work here is truly impressive for a render show.

this movie sucked
18 September 2021
Sadistic, narcissistic, sociopathic and pretty much self indulgent is what this movie is. And while that still could be tolerated, the infantile, idiotic dialogues and cringy overacting is where this movie completely falls apart. The cartoonish script felt like a desperate attempt at self therapy. With projection around every corner.

Completely stupid
14 July 2021
Every jump scare scene is being announced seconds before it happens. And the actions throughout the movie are completely predictable. The cinematography is unremarkable. A Quiet Place Part II is another lame paint-by-numbers production that is stale, bland and boring. And will leave you feeling stupid for having wasted 90 minutes of your life.

Lame tweening / Lacks the charm of the original
4 July 2021
While the old Peanuts series uses charming frame by frame animation, this new series from 2014 uses cheap tweening as animation method.

Furthermore this is obviously aimed at ADHD kids. Skip. Better luck next time.

I can assure you, nobody fights like that
3 June 2021
+good acting +talented cast

-laughable, clumsy combat scenes -bad direction -bad script -cliche ridden from start to finish

Ava was the same uninspired cookie cutter movie, you know the type, woman runs around for 90 minutes and kills a lot of men, we've seen a few dozen times in the past few years. Killing people has never been this boring.

Army of the Cringe
27 May 2021
I'll make it short. Whoever directed this embarrassment has zero talent. The whole movie is a cliche-filled, embarrassing cringe fest. The dialogues are oftentimes insufferable. The cinematography is flat and boring. The lighting is uninteresting.

Despite all this the cast of actors tries to pull this off. But ultimately the whole thing falls flat on its face. Like some 12 year old dude made a Zombie flick with lots of CGI, explosions and tasteless music. I suppose Michael Bay wasn't free and busy filming slomo helicopters.

Criminal Incompetence: the netflix documentary
1 February 2021
Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer foremost documents incompetence. Incompetence of the police apparatus tasked with stopping an active serial killer. And thus saving human lives in LA during the mid 80s. Yet in this documentary the original homicide detectives are allowed to pose as heroes, in order to satisfy their bloated egos.

But Night Stalker is also incompetence in film making. This documentary shows ZERO interest in the psychological profile, or actual motives of the killer. The much needed focus on childhood and psychosexual development is completely left out. In favor of unintentionally hilarious shock value. At times this netflix documentary feels like watching a TV budget version of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre with cheesy actors.

Not good....
8 October 2020
Flat characters. Poorly written. And full of lame jump scares and cliches. Hulus Books of Blood is far from the creepy brilliance that is the Clive Barker books. Skip and better watch Hellbound again.

thought provoking
18 September 2020
This is the worst movie i ever saw. I walked out of the cinema halfway through the film. How dare they do that to ME. What a waste of time... yadda yadda etc etc. Next time Michael Bay again! Ok ok, just kidding, lol. 'I'm Thinking of Ending Things' starts out boring and stays that way for like 20 minutes or so... but stay with it. Then all of a sudden with the introduction of Toni Collette and the ever brilliant David Thewlis, the mystery gets so thick, the cinematography so intense, that the movie will have you on the edge of your seat! If you pay close attention to whats going on, and thats obvious not the strong suit of all those 1/10 reviewers on here, the movie gets just a little too predictable afterwards. But that doesnt mean its not worth watching. There is a lot of thought provoking content here. Some of it based on thinking errors. But all of it is interesting. If the 'top ten hardest prisons' and super hairy vikings isn't your cup of tea, you might find *ending things* entertaining. Ok that came out wrong, lol. But anyway, good movie, and its certainly doing what movies should. And that is to make you think, feel and mature.

Underwater (2020)

Cheap, stupid and unoriginal
23 April 2020
Underwater sinks like a rock right after the introduction that already tells its viewer that something monstrous is lurking in the depth of the mariana trench. Clever move, lol. Anyway this is the milionth Alien clone with all the cliches you would expect, from the female computer voice to the everyday normies in an isolated and disastrous environment. And yeah there is a gonna be a murderous creature. Durr hurr.

Unwatchable, cringy and awkward.

I have been laughing tears....
19 February 2020
The death of dick long was one of the funniest movies i have seen in a long time. The first 20 minutes are plain slow and boring. And if you manage to stay with the movie through these, you will be rewarded with a merciless assault on your sides. Great characters and dialogues. The acting was really good. The camera was a little too flat at times. Anyway, thanks for the laughs!

Lone Wolf & Cup Rip Off for Star Wars nerds
8 February 2020
The story of the Mandalorian is basically lifted from the japanese manga Lone Wolf and Cup. Its not very nice to steal, is it? However the direction here is pretty solid. Everything smells like Star Wars. And Baby Yoda alone is worth watching through The Mandalorian. Despite being a rip off, this show is still light-years better than any of the embarrassing JJ Abrams flicks.

You know you are in America...
20 January 2020
...when in the face of horrific catastrophe people discuss their family problems to cheesy music, softly playing in the background. I'll make it short. Crawl has a stellar concept that is hold back by the cheesy dialogue and the lame direction. Could have been great, but ultimately is just a paint by numbers excercise riddled with clichés. Crawl is no Jaws.

Brilliant TV series
25 November 2019
Watchmen is brilliant. And its easily the best TV series this year. It just has the right amount of mystery, masterful cinamatography, intriguing characters and witty writing to keep you glued to your seat. If you like intelligent comic book writing, you gotta watch this. Oh and one more thing, do yourself a favour and ignore the triggered snowflakes rating this show 1/10 around here. Why IMDB tolerates the annoying alt-right review bombing is beyond me.

Masterful, witty, snappy...
25 November 2019
This episode of Watchmen was good. It was easily the best episode by far (yet). The writing, acting, editing, dialogues and characters were just masterful. Everything is snappy, witty, clever and delivering emotional impact. Its hard to believe that so much polish went into a single TV episode, as this one puts most current cinema movies to shame. Very nice. More of this please!
