Interview with the Vampire: What Can the Damned Really Say to the Damned (2024)
Sumptuous, Challenging, and Oh So Clever
The wait between season one and season two is at long last over! Because of how blown away season one left me, I've been anxiously anticipating and theorizing how the return might go down. I am grateful to say that Rolin Jones, the writers, and the entire cast have done the damn thing. WHAT a premiere it was! Anderson's tender approach to Louis has manifested as easily the best development LDPDL has ever had (sorry Anne). I was most excited to see Delainey Hayles' version of Claudia, and she left me breathless! The people's princess indeed! I'm in awe of the dialect work both she and Anderson have done, because I would've told you with full confidence that they're Southerners had I not known they're both English. Sam Reid is ever the charming, effortlessly bratty Lestat. And Assad Zaman? I can't wait to see him come into his full power this season!
TL;DR -- the show is incredible, ignore the naysayers and give it a watch for yourself. Is it different than the source material? Sure, in parts, but the changes made only elevate the story. 10/10, most anticipated 2024 release, all my love and flowers.
Greenlight S3 immediately, AMC!
Interview with the Vampire (2022)
Lush, Thoughtful, and Delightfully Camp
I was skeptical going in because of all of the changes made, but by the end of the first episode, I was immediately on board. The show is smart and engaging with some of the very best performances I've seen in my life. Anderson's Louis is so powerfully subtle, and Anderson himself portrays Louis's quiet discontent and depression with his body language and expressions. Sam Reid as Lestat is... A sight to see. Charming, dangerous, dramatic, positively a delight to witness. He was meant for this role. Bailey Bass, too, plays such a marvelous and nuanced Claudia!
Is the show a word-for-word faithful adaptation of the books? No. But the changes they've made are thoughtful, and have clearly been made with so much love. I'm absolutely looking forward to season 2, and hope to see many more seasons to come!
Our Flag Means Death (2022)
A Beautiful and Comedic Character Study
Stede Bonnet and his lovable pirate crew are absolutely delightful. Not one character is lacking. There's so much love built and baked into this show, and it shines through and through. The acting, the costumes, the sets, the plot, the soundtrack, all marvelous.
I for one am deeply touched by the earnest optimism in this show, and am entirely grateful that it exists.
