Blindspot (2015)
Jamie Alexander is Great, Blindspot's Writing is Not
I was really excited for Blindspot to premiere, but I did not end up enjoying it. It was very repetitive, and, as a result, boring. Really, the only redeeming thing about the show is star Jamie Alexander's performance as Jane Doe, which was great. After three episodes I had to give up because I really did not like the show. The first episode was mediocre, the second was bad, and the third was very bad. Watching the second and third episodes I felt like I had seen this before, as they had many similarities to the first episode. There was an intrigue with the overall mystery of who is Jane Doe, but I was not excited about that enough to continue on. If you enjoy procedurals with an overall mystery, and you don't mind a show being repetitive, you may enjoy Blindspot. But if you get annoyed by shows that seem to follow the same pattern every week, and you don't enjoy just waiting for the big reveal at the end of the episode, Blindspot is probably not for you.
Mr. Robinson (2015)
Unoriginal and Boring
Unoriginality plagued this show, and it was often boring. There were a few funny parts of the show, such as the songs at the beginning of the first two episodes and the PE teacher, but these were not enough to make me stick around for more than three episodes. Each of the episodes that I watched was worst than the last. The first episode was bad, the second and third were very bad. While the other teachers at the school that Craig teaches at (minus his love interest and not including the principal) are decently funny, the other characters are not. In two of the three episodes I watched, it took too long to set up the episode's plot, and the main storyline for each of the episodes was something done a million times before in other sitcoms. There is very little originality in Mr. Robinson, and really no reason that I would recommend it to anyone.
The Carmichael Show (2015)
Up and Down but Showing Potential
While not every episode of The Carmichael Show's first season was good, all the episodes had good funny moments, and many of them discussed some very real issues. It is far from a perfect show, but if it becomes able to consistently present good episodes that explore serious issues I will be very pleased. While some characters are more entertaining than the others, specifically Jerrod's parents Cynthia and Joe, all have their good moments. From the first season, the forth episode, "Gender", was mediocre, and the second episode, "Protest", was alright, but episode six "Guns" was pretty good, the pilot episode was good, and episodes three and five, "Kale" and "Prayer", were really good. If you want to try out The Carmichael Show, I would start with either "Kale" or "Prayer", and if you like those, watch "Guns", as the order of the episodes does not really matter, and the episodes "Gender", "Protest", and "Guns" are the more strongly issue focused ones. If you like shows that are funny, but also talk about issues that are real, such as protesting, gender identity, and gun control, from a fairly unbiased perspective, then The Carmichael Show is one that you would enjoy.
