I Care a Lot (2020)
What is up with all the 1/10 reviews?
I found the film entertaining, a bit silly in parts but good to watch. It had my attention for the whole film and you're not meant to like the main character. In no way is this a 1/10 film. Watch it yourself and make up your own mind.
21 Bridges (2019)
Entertaining enough
Only read this after you've seen the film.
It was entertaining enough, some nice views of Manhattan and some good set pieces.
You could see the plot and any twists a mile away and the killers sometimes did stupid things like run red lights, go into a hotel room and not close the curtains or wear a cap or disguise themselves. I think we needed to care about the characters more to give the film a bit more impact.
Captain Marvel (2019)
Very disappointed with the IMDB reviews - why so much hate?
I don't know what is going on with the reviews on this film but I swear half the people have not seen the film or have another agenda in giving it a low score.
I read the mixed reviews and could not work out why half the people were giving really low scores and the other half were giving really high scores.
5 of us, 3 adults and 2 kids, went to see the film and we all came out of the film with big smiles on our faces and we were super-pumped as it is another great Marvel film.
There are emotional moments (Exselsior!), funny moments, a great build up and it gets you even more excited for Avengers Endgame.
Use your own brain and go and see the film.
I recommend seeing it in IMAX 3D, it was spectacular.
Pacific Rim Uprising (2018)
Could have been really good, but just misses the target slightly
I absolutely love the original Pacific Rim. I felt that the film was a love letter for adults that love Robots fighting Aliens. The Monsters were unique and interesting. The fights were bone-crunching. The Sounds the Kaiju made were great.
Unfortunately, Pacific Rim: Uprising loses the gravity and heart of the first film and is really made for kids this time round. There are a few "cringey" moments and it all seems a lot more light-hearted. The storyline is ok but it feels like there is a great film in there and it just couldn't get out. Perhaps they should have spent a little longer improving the storyline and having slightly less kids.
Anyway, don't get me wrong, the action scenes are incredible and they are worth the admission price alone, but it feels like a missed opportunity. The ending also feels a bit rushed.
I think I'll get the film when it comes out and just fast-forward all the talking bits and just watch the Robot action and Monster fights. That's where this film succeeds.
Murder on the Orient Express (2017)
Such a waste of talent
Oh my. I saw the cast list and thought "Wow, this will be great", but unfortunately it was just a Branagh "look-at-me-playing-Poirot" film that got so many things wrong.
Branagh mumbles his way through the film and the amazing cast gets very little plot background or screentime. The camera angles at times are poor and it just felt soulless. There is hardly any tension, minimal background music/suspense and it was all a bit boring to be honest.
There are un-Poirot like action scenes, Branagh's moustache changes every time we see it, they are outside in the mountains without warm coats on and it just feels like it could have been a whole lot better.
I wanted to see drama and the great actors playing off each other and smart dialogue and direction, but none of that really happens.
And the scary thing is it looks like they want to re-make Death on the Nile - after seeing this remake, please DON'T. Thanks.
