Lack of contrasts

The characters have a lack of personality and are all quite grey and similar, matching the landscape: There are no opposites, there simply is nothing to gain or nothing to loose neither for the protagonists or antagonists.

Every uprising event struggles when trying to climax, stuff just happens out of space.

Mulan (2020)

Better story than the original!

The original Mulan movie has always been one of my favorite movies! While other live action versions always put themselves in danger of being too similar, there's always a great risk when adding change. Messing with a Disney original is a no go. Surprisingly, this live-action performance did not only keep the greatest charms of the original, it also added new magic and greater meaning. Never would I imagine so much strength and purpose added to the already beautiful story of Mulan, but I was touched to the bone.

Dear Disney. Mulan gave me a lot as a child. The message, the magic, the journey. As a grown up, I didn't expect a re-make to make any difference, but this movie had me dreaming and fighting again, just like when I watched your movies as a child.
