Jongmalui Babo (2024)
Kind of a mess.
I really thought I was going to like this one, but as other people said, it doesn't have much and it's pretty darn slow. I've really become a big fan of almost everything from South Korea, but this one is really the exception. Not sure if I'm gonna be able to keep going.
I'm only two episodes in, but the way they have set up the story is really disjointed and sometimes confusing. They start you off somewhere around 300 days before the asteroid hits. Then it jumps to 201 days before it hits. But then it jumps back again without telling you that it had jumped back. So often you're not sure what part of the story arc you're watching.
Not much character development either. Episode one starts with a little girl living alone because your mother has disappeared. They make it clear. It's after the announcement about the asteroid. Then after the main title theme plays it jumps right into the story. One of the main characters is a junior high school teacher, and I was almost to the end of the second Episode before I realized the little girl at the beginning didn't grow up to become the junior high school teacher. And I still have no idea who this little girl is or why she's in the story. Don't think I've seen her again.
And It feels like this with all the characters. You really only get a very basic idea of who they are or how they fit together. The same thing applies to a lot of the situations that arise in the story arc. Something will happen, then they continue on with the show and you're not really sure what exactly happened, why it was important, and sometimes if it even got resolved.
Definitely a mess.
Game of Thrones: The Last of the Starks (2019)
Why All The Hate?
I thought the Episode was just fine. I'm not really going to say anything about it. I just wanted to address all the viewers that are throwing fits and giving one star. One star??? Come on now. The production value alone gives it a 3 or 4.
I mean one star should mean unwatchable. Out of focus, sound cutting in and out, etc. Not just because you didn't get your way with the story.
People are getting way too sensitive and way too dramatic these days. If you can't handle your shows and they bring you a one star level of frustration you need to just stop watching tv altogether.
Alita: Battle Angel (2019)
SPREAD THE WORD!!!
I'm so glad I went ahead and saw this movie! The advertising didn't do it justice at all and caused a lot of "reviewers" to run rampant with one and two star ratings before the film even premiered. I'm really hoping word of mouth and social media will attract a lot more viewers.
I don't normally give 10's but I just couldn't find anything wrong with this movie. And you are really missing out if you don't get to see it in 3D!!! The filmmakers really paid attention to every last detail and have created a visual masterpiece.
Now, the worry that I had going into it is that that's all it would be. A really cool visual experience. But the story was just wonderful, the acting great and it gives you everything you want in a movie. Good action, a love story, good humor and a fully realized fantasy world that totally works! I wish the advertisers had let us know. Rosa Salazar, the actress who plays Aliya really made an impression on me. She brought a really bright innocent mood to Alita who is kind of like a child with the wisdom of an adult. An easy character to fall in love with!
Also, I should mention this is based on Japanese anime (cartoons) and they made some video games about it as well. I knew nothing about the history of the character, and when I hear "partially based on a video game" the red flags go up. But don't fear, you wouldn't even guess that was the case if you weren't told beforehand.
Don't listen to the trolls and people who love to bring things down that unfortunately plague every review site. Go see this one!!! Have a great time!!!
And most importantly, let the world know what they're missing out on.
Nightflyers (2018)
Not sure why the low ratings...
Based on the first two episodes this is looking like it's going to be a very fun ride! Anyone who's read or watched Game Of Thrones knows that George R.R. Martin is an amazing storyteller, and so far this story has me hooked!
I'm really not going to say anything specific about the show since we're only 2 Episodes in. But ignore the low ratings and let the show speak for itself!
The Handmaid's Tale: Holly (2018)
Waste of time...
Right off the bat, I want to say that I love this show. Also, I rarely give anything a rating under seven. but this episode was pretty much a waste of time, except for about the last 10 minutes. One thing I've been noticing lately are shows will spend 3 minutes just watching someone walk somewhere or 3 minutes just watching a character think or cry. I'm okay with the slow burn, but this is a whole other thing.
About 45 minutes of this episode is just watching Offred walk around a house, stop to think, walk around some more, etc. Then every 10 minutes or so you get a 1-2 minute scene with dialogue. They could have put the 10 minutes of the important stuff into another episode and saved us a lot of time.
And like I said, I love this show and this is the first episode that I've rated below an 8. So that's saying something.
The Walking Dead: What Comes After (2018)
Great, but I'd prefer to go into it "blind"...
This episode would have been at 10 for me if I had just sat down with no knowledge of what was going to happen. Unfortunately, as is becoming all too common these days, you pretty much knew what was going to happen with Rick. And that takes all of the surprise out of it. For about the first 45 minutes of this episode I wasn't terribly interested at all, other then the scene with Maggie and Negan. Basically, I was just sitting around watching Rick pass out and have a little talk with a dead loved one, get back up and pass out again, rinse and repeat. So it really didn't hold my attention. If I didn't know this was ricks last episode I would've been on the edge of my seat.
However, the last 25 minutes of the episode were absolutely great and I can't wait to see where everything goes from here. I'd say more but I really don't want to give a single thing away that you haven't already been told about.
So, definitely worth the watch! Definitely a great episode! And it is in the way the filmmakers fault that it could've been at 10 all the way through was partially spoiled because we the public are told too much before hand!
A Quiet Place (2018)
Great fun!!!!
Wow! What a great time that movie was. If you're reading this you already know the description of the movie so I won't waste time with that.
This movie was surprisingly nonviolent nor gory. Instead relying on building suspense to a point where every 20 minutes or so you realize every muscle in your body is completely tensed and your clamping your jaw hard enough to break your teeth. And then, the "jump out of your seat" scares seem to be so perfectly time in this movie.
I don't mind over the top gory horror movies with a lot of profanity. But did find this a really nice surprise from that. This movie with it's combination of slow boil suspense, coupled with the great scares and the fact that the tiniest sound makes you freeze up and cringe makes for one of the better and more fun and scary movies that I've seen! It's definitely worth the watch!
Trust: Consequences (2018)
I could have done without this last episode.
I could have done without this last episode. Great series, but this last episode felt like they were just filling time to make 10 episodes. Long pauses of nothing happening, and when something does happen it's drawn out and really not important anyway. Should've stopped at nine!
Westworld (2016)
I'm Just Gonna Say It...
This series is a masterpiece in every aspect. Just read the 9 and 10 star reviews and they've said everything great I could say!
As for the bad reviews. This show isn't for everyone. It's not a weekly network show that takes your hand and repeatedly walks you through the same simple format week after week. It requires a certain level of intelligence to understand and the people who don't get frustrated and call it garbage. If you have the ability to sit down, open your mind and to do a little bit of thinking about events on your own, you will be in store for one of the best entertainment offerings ever.
Lost in Space (2018)
Great Show!!! Great Entertainment!!!
I'm so glad I took a chance and watched this even after reading all the negative reviews. Is turned out to be a very entertaining series with great acting and a great story!
Like so many other people I am annoyed when they take beloved characters from the past and change their races or sexual orientation just to be politically correct. We need to grow up and understand that there are all white families out there just like there are all black families out there.
But if you can get past the fact that this is not a carbon copy of the original show you are really going to enjoy it! I absolutely don't understand why other reviewer's are seeing the acting is bad. The little boy who plays Will is one of the best child actors I've ever seen. Toby Stephens and Molly Parker are always good and everything I've seen them in. The new updated robot is just fantastic as well!
When you sit down to watch this I urge you just to watch it like it's a new show that you have never seen before and know nothing about. Just sit back and enjoy the ride and you will love it!
