The Batman (2022)
Too long - try hard Batman
This movie could have easily been a 2 hour movie. Shots are way too long. Way too dramatic.
This batman is way too emo.
The Penguin was the best part of this movie.
Throughout the movie the overall quality of the movie went up and down and at the end it felt like torture.
I have tried my best to rate it as fair as possible, but someone has gotten a bit too much free hand with editing.
I am 100% sure I will never watch it again.
The Northman (2022)
Refreshing movie
If you don't have problems with blood or dark mood in movies this is for you. Watch it. You will not regret it.
Is it some realistic representation? I have no clue. All I know it is a well made movie with a good story, good edits, decent pacing and no shaky camera :)
Enterprise (2001)
Good start and then a prolonged snooze fest
I started this series not expecting much. At the beginning it delivered very interesting episodes.
Then a new big threat appeared. What should have been at most a 5 episode string turned into a 20+ snooze fest of o my god how much filler could you throw into it? End the story line already! Please end it.
But no, the same old unending story. One story line has been stretched out to mind blowing extend. Almost like Rockstar and GTA. Or FIFA games.
Even when you think the story ends, twist on your twist and surprise! Let's keep going!
The very first Star Trek series I hate. Would have never said that.
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
Soulless
They threw everything into this movie. All the items and legends of the saga were thrown into a movie in the hope that something will stick.
The sad thing is that the movie has a feeling of "hastily put together" or "something is off". On top of that the whole movie has a deja vu feeling to it. I somehow feel I saw this movie at least 12 times this year. It feels like a template storyline.
Some things that made me give it a 6:
1. I care for no one in the movie. They could have died all and it wouldn't have mattered
2. moments with cliche sentences. Very cringe!
Some things that I liked:
1. You did well with the antagonist ( The best acting/voice acting in the movie. He gave a lot of depth to the anger )
2. Scenery -> diverse and interesting
P.S.: I am trying to be very detached from my emotions, even though it is hard. There were so many Cosplayers in the cinema and so many light sabers and fans there. They still care. Disney should do better. They deserve better!
Joker (2019)
Worth seeing - It kept me at awe the whole time
This movie was extremely good. One of those actor driven movies made in very good taste. No constant shaky cameras, no short-hand cut scenes, no bad CGI and a lot of pure breathtaking moments (more in the second part of the movie).
I usually don't give a 10, but this movie deserves every praise it can get. It managed to get so many emotions out of me that I think it deserves a spot between the greatest movies ever made.
Before going to the movie, make sure you understand that this is a complete character development movie with a lot of dark and depressing moods and scenes.
I take a bow to Joaquin Phoenix.
The Mummy (2017)
What was this? O my god what a mess
I don't want to say anything extremely bad but I will say that I have not encountered a worse chaos. First half of the movie seems to have nothing in common with a mummy movie. Just a mess of action sprinkled around.
Bad scenes, bad script, bad acting bad choices. A sandwich of everything made at a very low quality.
James Bond is not mummy movie material.
I actually regret using 2 hours of my life to watch this. I think I have never said this about any movie yet.
Just wow.
Captain Marvel (2019)
Not as bland as the trailer has showed - but not that far from it either
(I received the tickets for free from cinemacity)
I left the cinema with no feeling towards this movie or Captain Marvel herself. It was just some movie to fill in a blank until End Game.
I will try to keep it simple.
What i liked:
1. Ben Mendelson. He played the character well. He did a good job.
2. Lashana Lynch is the only character besides Ben Mendelson that managed to transmit emotion to the audience
3. The way Captain Marvel gets her powers.
4. Even though I was not impressed by the jokes, they were not in bad taste.
What i disliked:
1.Brie Larson. I can't say she is a bad actor, but i can say she had no genuine expressions here. She is bland. I forgot her as soon as I left the cinema. I remembered Talos, but Captain Marvel was very unrelatable and movement and verbal communication was very fake.
2. They played No Doubt over a fighting scene. I don't know who had this great idea and I think you tried to copy from Guardians of the galaxy, but in this movie it felt as it has no place. It was cringy and useless. In Guadians of the galaxy it worked because the music was part of the main characters past, here it was just unnecessary.
Summary: The movie was acceptable, but very easy to forget. I am sure I will never watch it again. I am not so sure if I want to see Captain Marvel in End Game.
Wonder Woman (2017)
An inspiration to all female led movies out there
I am sorry for not writing a review when I saw the movie. I took it for granted. The industry seems to have gone to heck since 2017 with template movies and fast food filming styles which made me think about watching this movie again and I had my opinion confirmed, This movie has balanced story line with tastefully flashy entertainment and Gal Gadot has done an incredibly good job with the role.
This movie has so many layers to it, that i still stand impressed. The "Venus vs. Mars" clash, when the ideals and naivety of Wonder Woman clash with the reality and harshness of a war in a "mans world" and how they managed to fit all of this into such a great movie is beyond me.
I think two things have made this movie memorable for me:
1. Patty Jenkins and her direction in the movie.
2. Gal Gadot. I knew nothing of her, but what I know from human interactions, such emotions and elegance (like the one she showed in the movie) is not something that you can learn in acting classes. It is too genuine. From seeing the movie i knew she must have a lot of depth in reality as well and again, I stand impressed.
Con: David Thewlis is not Ares. Sadly to say, when he revealed himself people where slightly giggling in the cinema. He is a good actor, but he is not made for this role. Facial expressions might fit, but appearance and the lack of energy. Isn't Ares quick to anger? Quick to act? Revengeful and pity? He should have shown more physical action towards Gal Gadot.
In summary, I love this movie. I gave this movie an 8 because it still has some more smaller things that annoy and in the end.... super hero movies are no meant to be in the high 9-10 ratings. Just my opinion.
Worth every penny to see the movie once or twice! Buy it on Blue ray, rent it, buy the merch or just shout out to Gal Gadot for her awesome job. Just don't let this movie go unpraised. It is awesome :)
Alita: Battle Angel (2019)
Interesting idea and very well made movie
Interestingly, i have very little to complain. The movie was somewhere between 7-8 in my opinion.
It was fun to watch. The story was well written.
A few cons:
- Some scenes where notably hastily put together to push the story forward
- The audio volume. It is in some moments pushed to the limits. You have enough interesting scenes, you don't have to overdo it with very loud music.
- You played the sexuality card very hard. To the point where it almost felt uncomfortable.
I went to see it in the cinema and I think i was worth the money.
Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)
Content chaos and boring mess
Interestingly this was the first Star Wars movie i had no drive to go watch. I only watched it now because i had nothing else to see at home and it was free.
I wonder how was it possible to have so much content and make it so boring? I mean, it is a masterpiece of boring. Close up shots of almost everything. Epic music with no pause button ( movie starts - epic music starts - movies ends - epic music stops ). Constant freaking action. Like, give me a break, let me rest my eyes from all the close-ups.
The kindergarten quality scripting of the Han Solo connections with the Star Wars saga ( His name, his weapon, him speaking Chewies language, the MF etc.. ) is just cringe worthy.
The actor who played Han Solo (don't even care who he was), is either an amateur or a very bad fit for this character. I have seen better impressions from random youtubers.
It felt like a mess of everything they could think o with little to nothing to say.
Speaking of saying something, they thought it would be a good idea to sprinkle some social justice b.s. into scenes. I have no problem with politics, but the scenes were anyways a mess and now you throw some random "holier than thou" sound bites in there and make it look even messier.
I don't know man.... what happened to making good movies? Why does everything have to be fast food McDonalds crap nowadays. This movie was so bad that I think somebody should have gotten fired here. I don't know who, maybe some random dude from the set, but please go fire somebody. Please. Somebody has to pay for the time and money they wasted !
Mission: Impossible - Fallout (2018)
Spoiler ! Mission impossible is a mere "meh"
The 3 sections of the movie that stood out:
1. Intro: i almost got an epileptic shock from the millisecond apart scenes and constant flashing of pictures. I was not able to read, see or understand anything from the intro. A flash of nothing. Not a good start to a movie.
2. Middle section: fairly interesting. Sometimes too much plot twisting on plot twists, but still interesting
3. This section is called "the longest 15 minutes of my life"
In a display of pure cliche and a hard try attitude to make a whole movie out of 3 scenes, the 15 minute countdown to the explosion has brought the whole cinema to start laughing and joking each time the timer was shown. The laughter continued after the movie finished.
I am not that sure that it is worth the ticket, but i am very sure i will never be re-watching this movie.
Rogue One (2016)
More "Star War" than "The Force Awakens"!
I was incredibly disappointed by Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but this movie somehow makes up for it. It is closer to perfection than the last one they brought and finally shows new systems, new planets, new old tech and the primary character does a good job playing her part.
Some cons (No Spoiler):
*The movie had moments when there was a bit too much action. (it gets tiring sometimes)
*They used the nostalgia effect with characters that maybe shouldn't have been there. Which is annoying but not extremely upsetting.
*Some "in-your-face" cliché moments. Which i personally found funny.
Overall, yes. I would recommend watching it. And i think it fits fairly well in the Saga. The only thing that remains now, is to put a blanket over the "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" part and pretend it does not exist. :)
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016)
Something is missing...
I got out of the cinema feeling that something was missing... .
The movie does not give you a "big picture" story, that makes you wonder about the harry potter universe, like the first HP did. What it does give you is the wonderful story of Newt. They did a great job with him.
I think that Katherine Waterston did a very poor job in the first scenes in which she appeared and that somehow influenced my perception of her overall acting. Even though i think that she kept getting better towards the end.
Colin Farrell had some very awkward body language in some scenes. He seemed uncomfortable with some things. He seems to not know what to do with his hands.
I am not saying it was bad, i am saying it was missing something, or a small amount of tiny "somethings", but it is definitely missing.
My actual rating would be 7.2. .
I would recommend to watch it. It is something else and it contains a very positive vibe.... just don't expect to be WoWed.
Doctor Strange (2016)
Fits like a glove!
Do you remember when you saw Iron Man the first time and thought to yourself "that guy is made for that role!". - Maybe not, but i had that moment.
Now i had the same moment again. Benedict Cumberbatch is made for this role. He plays it very well!
It is in my top 3 movies this year. Might even be nr.1, but i wouldn't want to give a prize before the year ends :).
Good short and unchaotic fight scenes. Overall, scenes have been cut in a very tasteful way and it contained a very special kind of awkward comedy with very well chosen moments to hit you with those awkward jokes.
To make it simple: I have paid a good sum for my 3d tickets and i exited the cinema thinking they deserved my money. The last time i had this feeling was at "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole". ( I like Owls :) )
Thank You Scott Derrickson, Jon Spaihts, C. Robert Cargill, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tilda Swinton & Cast!! This is the closest way i can come to thank you for this movie and i hope there will be more to come!
Ghostbusters (2016)
I would suggest to not watch it at the cinema, or better, don't watch it at all
It is a bad movie. (This should tell you all)
I would not suggest to pay for cinema tickets. If you really want to see it, rent it or whatever. Find a cheaper solution, to chip away from the disappointment you will feel after watching it.
Pros:
- The "Suck it" joke from the university made me LoL - Kate McKinnon made a very interesting character, but i am inclined to think that she seemed that way because all the other characters where so plain/non interesting
Contra: - Man hating trash jokes ( mind-boggling idiotic male secretary, a young man shits his pants when he saw a ghost but the women are not fazed at all, the evil character is a male that was bullied in life, the new device that she created "nutcracker", shooting a ghost in the "d**k" etc.. ) - the characters seemed to not have a thing in common. Even the two friends (Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig) had no "friends" feeling to them. Very plastic feeling to the characters. - Somehow they had money to build stuff that would need Elon Musks fortune to fund. It was built by a person with 0 backstory in this. AND there is no evolution in the tech. She just improves tech from one day to another like some sort of prodigy that can build cast iron accessories/materials out of her behind from one day to another. - It feels like a cheap parody of Ghostbusters.
As i said, if you do not want to give money on something that does not deserve it, please don't go to the cinema to see it. Choose cheaper solutions or don't even try. The movie "Keanu" has better rating and seemed better than this.... . Just sayin' .
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
Very disappointing rehash !
I went to the movie not expecting much and it managed to go past my small expectations and make it a very bad experience.
Two things that made me give this review:
1. It is a total rehash of old movies/ideas
2. The callousness use of nostalgia and modern day movie tactics ( fill it with action so that people don't notice the lack of story or meaning ).
No meaningful scenes and a script that can only be described as written by teenagers. No new worlds, no new technology or civilizations. They made a mockery out of the audience by using only a few scenes and milking them until your eyes bleed.
Example: A scene with a building (hideaway)takes up 30 minutes of the movie with no real value being added to the movie with this.
A villain that is not capable to fight after so much training he had until now and a girl that can defeat him with a light saber ( even though she had no training). Even a traitor storm trooper can fight a trained Jedi with no prior training (not to mention that he used the light saber and for now has not been revealed as a Jedi or anything of that sort). A mockery i tell you.
They even destroyed the bad ass image of Han Solo with the last scene he had. That is not the image he had/should have/was build up to until now.
If it would have been a stand-alone movie i would see this movie at an 6.2 rating. But because it is part of a franchise i have to take into consideration the movies made prior to this one so i cannot go past the rating of 1 star. In comparison, this movie does not deserve even this 1 star because it was a rehash of the other movies!
I won't go to the cinema for the next one. I prefer to be disappointed at home with no wasted money on rehash junk.
May your profits be small, Disney!
