Nothing To See Here

Warning: Spoilers
Frankly I found this to be an exceedingly mediocre movie; lured by a number of positive reviews I lost interest after about 20 minutes. Mel had a go and at times shone is his role as a gritty ex alcoholic ex con however the chemistry with his daughter played by Erin Moriarty was mostly lack lustre and I found her acting fairly wooden and unconvincing.

The story was at times full of massive holes that couldn't be overlooked and was mostly formulaic and predictable - it couldn't even be saved by William H Macy in his supporting role although I enjoyed his 5 minutes of camera time . I can only imagine those that gave this movie rave reviews are somehow tied up with it as it is nothing special - Keep your cash and at best, have a look on Netflix or similar.

Don't Bother... Seriously

This is a seriously bad film... I really don'y know where to begin whether its the entire premise, the gaping holes in the story, the script, the acting, the effects... well, the everything.

I don't often review but after losing my investment of some 74 minutes in this woeful film I felt the need to warn others.

But first let let me lay down my credentials... I don't act, direct, produce or have any other pre-release involvement in the film industry but I do watch, and this.... is simply not worth watching.

I normally enjoy Vinnie Jones in his stereotypical role of ultra violent vigilante or similar and it was his name that attracted me to the film... but this was hard to stomach. The acting was awful from start to finish and the story wafer thin and generic.

Anyone who gives this more than a 2 has a financial interest in the film.

There are better things to do with your 74 minutes.

Okay if you have some spare time on your hands

Warning: Spoilers
This is a so-so movie despite what the other reviewers before me would have you believe. It deals with the sensitive topic of PTSD for returned veterans in a unique way and the twist IS quite entertaining although the movie lacks strength and depth perhaps as a result of the cast and budget.

I did make it through the entire film so it did keep me entertained although its length did tend to make it drag on a little where some tighter editing could have helped.

Forget Hollywood special effects and high end CGI but what you will get is a simple homespun style of storytelling.

Rainy Sunday afternoon with your partner next to you on the couch/sofa it's a yes, otherwise there's better movies out there for you to enjoy.

What An Odd Entertaining Little Film

Warning: Spoilers
Certainly a bit of a dark horse but it kept me interested and intrigued throughout. The ending perhaps wasn't what I expected but I should have guessed that this black little comedy would ensure something different was in store. I really enjoyed the main leads but to be honest, the stand out was Lea Soydoux as the psychotic loner leader. I was also a little dubious given the title but enjoyed the movie and thought it was a solid 7. There were really so many classic lines and I loved the dry manner in which the at times R rated narration was delivered.

This movie is not for everyone - it has no Hollywood special effects or stunts and explosions, but what it does have is an oddball, unusual, off the wall, weird and essentially strange love story.
