absolutely worst movie ever
14 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
A PC embellished Addams Family.

The town of assimilation? Really? Pink streets. Check off the gay crowd. Hatred and violence towards those who disagree with you. Check off Antifa. Jr. high bullies. Social media bullies. Kids song and dance sequence about being the same and fitting in. Interracial couples but no black families. Oops. No muslim families. Oops. No guns but they had a trebuchet.

Charles Addams is rolling over in his grave. The joy of the Addams Family was how blissfully and wonderfully unaware of how bizarre they are, at least according to norms and societal standards. Not so in this movie.

Go back to 1964 and watch Caroline Jones and John Astin or more recently Anjelica Huston and Raul Julia. Just avoid this animated PC garbage like the plague.

love the books, this movie is really bad
11 January 2018
Tom Cruise at 5'10" is no Jack Reacher. The movie doesn't follow the book and it's all the worse for it. The worst part was at approx. the 30 min. mark. Reacher looses a one-on-one fight. Sorry, at 6'5" and 250 there is no way he ever lost a fight one-on-one since he was 6. That is straight from every book when Reacher gets into a fight. Dwayne Johnson is 6'5". I don't see him as Reacher (too pretty) but at least he is the right size.

Hollywood/Will Smith preaching pc open mindedness
11 January 2018
In the first 5 minutes we get to see an interracial marriage and Will Smith telling his mixed race daughter not to call someone stupid. He tells her we are all individuals with different backgrounds that need to be understood and accepted. I stopped watching because I don't wish to be preached to at the movies any more than I like being preached to at an NFL game. Hollywood must be off their rocker if they think this is what America wants to spend their money seeing/hearing. Hollywood elitists telling us we all have to get along. Hard to swallow after hearing all the awful comments spoken by Hollywood elites at their pat themselves on the back award shows.

Welcome back Ms. Rowling
23 November 2016
So many reviews I read attempt to bring this film in perspective versus Ms. Rowlings Potter films. It isn't necessary. Ms. Rowlings is a wonderful storyteller. Just enjoy the story and revel in her imagination for a couple of hours. Isn't loosing yourself what movie going is supposed to be about? As an added bonus, I feel certain that after seeing this film you will be looking forward to seeing the next installment. Ms. Rowlings will keep Warner Bros. in the money for years to come.

The bad guys are bad. The good guys are good. There are children being children and adults being adults. It doesn't matter in Ms. Rowlings world if you are magical or muggle the traits within these groups stay the same. Children with hopes, desires, and fears. Adults with responsibilities. And young adults growing out of childhood and into adulthood trying to bridge the divide.

One group trying to subjugate another. Another group trying to free those being suppressed. It's all so easy to relate to in our own lives whether you are a child, an adult, or one in-between. At least there are no zombies :)

Perfect Ben Affleck vehicle.
2 November 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I was hesitant about seeing this movie because I am not a Ben Affleck fan. I find his acting to be stiff and unemotional. That is why this is a perfect vehicle for him. Being stiff and unemotional is exactly how you would play an autistic. Think about Dustin Hoffman in Rain Man.

The movie however was very good. The use of flashbacks to explain his skills was done excellently. They were done sparingly and spaced at just the right time to change the pace of the film which was just right.

The casting was spot on and the acting was top notch. All the actors were believable.

I took two points off. 1-point for the automatic weapons. It seemed over the top and a bit ridiculous and 1-point for the last seen where Affleck comes out of character. Through the entire movie he is deadpan and he does that so well (just watch any of his films). In the last scene you see him and his lips have a slight downturn which works with his character but then he starts to grin and the whole scene is lost. That grin really spoiled what is a well done film.

I would recommend seeing this film.

Just awful
27 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Lee Child always made sure the reader understood the size of Jack Reacher as an introduction to almost every fight. In this movie everybody is larger than Tom Cruise. In one fight scene he gets tossed about by one guy who isn't very big. In the first movie you could overlook the fact that Tom Cruise is not even 6 feet tall but not so in this movie.

If you've read this book then you'll be so disappointed in this movie. In the book the part of Reacher's supposed daughter and her mother are both likable characters. In the movie she's a juvenile delinquent and almost immediately unlikable.

Lee Child wrote Reacher as an intelligent man reasoning through the situations he found himself. You could see that in the first movie. In this movie we don't get a chance to see that intelligence. Lee Child wrote the Susan Turner character as a smart woman but that doesn't come through either. It isn't always about the action. It's also about him being intelligent and solving the problem.

I walked out on this movie in under 30 minutes. The first Reacher movie allowed Reacher fans to accept the tiny Tom Cruise as Reacher. This movie makes it impossible to take that leap. Reacher always seemed to me to making his way toward something as he worked through the problems he found himself overcoming. I admit to not seeing this film through to the end but it seemed to me that in this film he was running from the bad guys. The Reacher I know always plays offense.

Save yourself the disappointment. Watch the first Reacher movie again or read the book again. Either would be more pleasing to Reacher fans than watching this garbage. Tom Cruise is a good action star but the writing and direction are so bad in this movie that you just can't overlook tiny Tom Cruise being huge Jack Reacher.

Ride Along 2 (2016)
pure torture
3 February 2016
Ice Cube, Benjamin Bratt, Ken Jeong, all fun to watch and good at their craft.

Kevin Hart is not funny. He is the most annoying person. His incessant chatter meant to be humorous is grating to the point of wanting to constantly b**ch slap him. Chris Rock is another who has built a film persona of constant chatter, but he is funny and is good with physical humor. Kevin Hart unfortunately does not have these talents.

DVD rental for $1 when you're sick and have nothing but time on your hands and stuck in bed. Not worth a penny more and not worth time on a sunny day, cloudy day, or rainy day.

oh so bad rehash of original-had to be a money grab by George
23 December 2015
Warning: Spoilers
George Lucas has gotten old and run out of fresh ideas. Anyone who saw the first Star Wars will be watching a very poor facsimile. For those who haven't seen the first Star Wars you'll be watching a very poor facsimile.

Terrible character development. Couldn't figure out why the two main characters are drawn to each other. In the original Han, Luke, Leia, Chewee, and Obi Wan meet and join forces in a believable way. The entire movie revolves around the adventure that brings these people together as life long friends. You can see the progression of their friendship. In this movie it is unbelievable that these two characters could or would bond. There is no plot line that makes their bonding understandable.

They meet and run away from an attack. He leaves and she goes after him like a long lost love. They meet again and she gets captured. He chases after her like a long lost love. Just can't be believed or understood.

The girl accesses the force as if she is a Jedi Master. In the original Luke had to be taught how to focus on using the force. In sequels they are always training young Jedis to use the force. Some had abilities that were recognizable and were recruited to be trained. Remember young Anikan. The idea that this girl knows how to use all these abilities like a Jedi Master goes against every other notion of the force put forth in earlier films.

The resistance has to destroy another death star. Hidden in a droid are the answers everyone seeks. The attack on the death star is exactly like the attack scene in the original. The aircraft and the outfits are exactly the same. After 40 years it's impossible to believe technology didn't change the weaponry and the flight suits.

I guess we should expect to see another American Graffiti remake. Of course it will suck because George has gotten old and forgotten how to make movies. But don't worry, at $10 a ticket he'll still make millions.
