A Frozen Christmas (2016)
Glorified screensaver, avoid at all costs
I'm a sucker for all things Christmas, and have watched thousands of holiday films, specials, and episodes. This "film" is almost entirely children narrating generic holiday stories while generic wintery or Christmas-related images play. Reaching for positive things to say, the imagery is decent in places, and the narration is not entirely monotone. Looking at the film makers credits, it appears that they are basically The Asylum of family animation direct-to-video films. I'm sorry, but no one should watch this, or let their children watch this "movie". The makers should be ashamed.
Every Other Day Is Halloween (2009)
Excellent film documenting the horror host tradition
I loved this film, but should admit that I'm a bit biased. I grew up in the DC area, and was strongly influenced by Count Gore de Vol. My first exposure to horror films and kaiju shows was watching Captain 20 in the afternoons and Creature Feature on Saturday nights. I was instantly fascinated by Ultraman, Godzilla, and horror films in general; and have kept that love of the genres for more than 35 years now.
I can honestly say that I might not be the person I am today, for what that's worth, if it wasn't for WDCA showing that programming and the way that Dick Dyszel presented it.
Trying to eliminate my bias, which I imagine would be impossible in this particular case, I think Every Other Day is Halloween is a very well done documentary. It does a great job is communicating not only Dick's life, but the horror host tradition in general and, most importantly, what it was like to grow up in the DC area in that era with channel 20 as your babysitter. The editing is fantastic, and a wide range of information is incorporated into a quick and entertaining 90 minutes. An amazing amount of footage and great selection of fans and other horror talent make for an interesting and diverse presentation.
I wish I had known the filmmaker and some of the interviewees when we were kids, because I think we could have been best buddies.
Attackazoids! (2008)
Very well done, but come on with the ratings people
Very well done short!
But the 21 out of 22 perfect 10s given are just ridiculous, and probably reflect the cast, crew, their parents, and a couple neighbors.
Seriously, I would never rate my own stuff a 10/10, reserve that for the true greats.
Nice melding of animation and live action, and cool effect with the actress' eyes.
Not a huge fan of the ending.
Looking forward to seeing more work from this director and the lovely actress.
Solid 8 out of 10 (9 if I was related to someone on the film).
Ed, Edd n Eddy's Jingle Jingle Jangle (2004)
Awful
I've watched over 100 cartoons during this holiday season, and this is the worst of the bunch. Complete nonsense, vile characters, and nothing resembling humor. I'll give the poor animation a break, as perhaps they are going for "that look", but a story has to have likable characters at a minimum. Most have decent dialogue or humor as well. This episode has neither of those three elements.
This is the first, and I hope the last episode of this series I've seen, but I doubt that a familiarity with the characters would help one appreciate this at all.
The other people who voted for this must be the parents of the creators.
