Cinderella (I) (2021)

Not great, not terrible
6 September 2021
I enjoyed this movie. Its not amazing by any means, but it's not as horrible as people seem to find it for me. For every bad thing about this movie, there were one or two things that made up for it. All in all, I found it relatively enjoyable with some cringe here and there and they definitely could've used a better sound editor. Acting was decent, some songs more enjoyable than others and a refreshing plot.

Disappointing

Warning: Spoilers
Like many other viewers, I was very disappointed with this finale. It was so short, there was no closure, soooo many threads left open, they are gonna have to do some serious damage control in season 3 cause this was not a finale. I get the not kissing part because of the age gap between the actors, we all know an age gap between actors can ruin a movie (I'm looking at you another Cinderella story). I also get the "ooh competition doesn't matter hihi, friendship!" thing but literally not a single viewer wanted that. Like for real. Tell us if they got nominated. There were just sooo many storylines that were played up in previous episodes and they literally went nowhere. Nothing makes sense anymore.

Makes no sense

Warning: Spoilers
I actually enjoyed the first movie. Vanessa's accent when doing the duchess was very cringy but overall it was fun, cute, and it made sense. Then there's this one. This time we get 2 cringy accents, and I really did not like the Fiona character, completely over the top, her only personality trait was a duckface (one good thing I will say about her is that her reactions to finding out she'd kidnapped the wrong girl were quite funny), and her plan made absolutely no sense and was so poorly executed. It was so obvious to me that the writers just needed to pad the runtime because they couldn't even manage to write a decent plot that lasted 90 minutes, so they added in the completely useless plot point of not telling King whatever his name is that the girls switched, even though telling him would have absolutely no negative consequences on the plot whatsoever, they just needed some extra drama because the plot really was that thin. I also didn't like the recast for Olivia, I'm really sorry, I know that girl did her best, but honestly none of it was believable and it just came off as annoying. Overall, I was left extremely frustrated by how little logic the writers put into the script and the plot, and the performances were underwhelming to say the least. Then again that's only my opinion, the only way to really know how'd you'd feel about it is by watching it.

That's an old baby

The movie is a perfect 5. Just very average. Nice if you just want to put your brain to 0. The real reason I wanted to write this review is just because their "newborn" baby is obviously just 6 months old. It's ridiculous and therefore hilarious.

It's okay.

Warning: Spoilers
I really liked the first movie and the 2 others were okay. I always think the choreography and music are great, Kenny Ortega does not disappoint there. However, Disney is soooo rich, why oh why can't they afford some better special effects? Both of the last movies look entirely shot in front of a pretty bad green screen and the dragon and sea witch Uma just look horrible. I know it's only a Disney channel original but still.

Still enjoyable though.
