The Perfection (2018)
We review what is expected of us
Fun movie. I mean, fun in the sense of, if you like suspense/thrillers/body horror/heavy themes mixed with gore scenes, etc. I would describe it as an EC Comics story for grown-ups, and as that, it is quite well executed. It has a whole bunch of twists, and it really likes to indulge in them, but at the same time, they're very telegraphed. And it also becomes more and more outlandish the longer it goes on.
But I like that kind of stuff, because it reminds me of the comics I used to read in my youth. You can say that it maybe has some kind of a message, because of certain things I don't want to spoil, but due to it's aforementioned 'TWISTED' nature it's not the most straight-laced message ever. Kind of like the 'message' of Netflix's 'The Punisher', or the first Jack Reacher movie, or something like that.
So, I'm not sure if there's a huge audience for this kind of movie, or if people are going to like what I just described the way I do. But it was worth watching. If you enjoyed 'Hard Candy' or 'Excision', you could also enjoy this, I believe.
Elvira's Haunted Hills (2001)
The 'Elvira's Haunted Hills' Drinking Game
If you're so inclined, have a sip every time:
- a lady screams at something - Elvira's breasts are the punchline of a joke - somebody falls down/over - somebody is being overtly dramatic and then abruptly interrupted - you see a deliberately crappy prop or special effect
Summarily, the movie is a parody of classic Hammer and Universal films, especially the ones loosely based on the works of Edgar Allen Poe. If you liked 'Dracula - Dead and Loving It' and/or the Elvira character, you will also like this. All good fun.
