time capsule that is required viewing for students of 60s and 70s film
19 February 2017
Okay, if you're tired of the same old thing... I'm giving this a '10' rating because, as I mention in the title, this is a time capsule that is required viewing for students of 60s and 70s film. It was filmed and written by a couple of spoiled Hollywood kids who maybe received a 'C' for poor camera work and writing, and no direction. Fortunately for the world, these two never wrote another filmed screenplay. However, these kid's parents knew a lot of talented people, and it's fun to see them goof off in their sad class project. Shirley without Laverne, Robert Walker who was alien boy 'Charlie' on Star Trek OS, classic black comic Godfrey Cambridge, classic Jewish comic Shelley Berman, Sid Haig (devil's rejects), Dick Van Patten ('Spaceballs'), Gwynne Gilford ('CHiPs'), and do you know Del Close? You should find out, and see him here in a short improv next to Burgess Meredith and Larry Hagman as drunk hobos about to meet their demise. Really lame jello blob effects and one take footage at a Hollywood cocktail party.

Lame video for a decent song Justin didn't write but takes credit for
28 January 2017
Spend a lot of money, hire John Leguizamo for 20 seconds of screen time, big Hollywood camera crew and producers for a decent song that was written supposedly by Justin Bieber, Jason "Poo Bear" Boyd and Mason Levy. Nobody believes Bieber actually wrote a single lyric melody or groove production for this. It's time to end the madness. Bieber is a spokesmodel without an original thought. The great sadness is that this velveeta cheese posing as a musician songwriter is taking credit and getting paid handsomely for it. And that millions of sad dull people slavishly buy into it. No surprise that Trump was elected. This is just another sign of the Apocalypse.

Carefully choreographed puff promotion for the little douchebag
28 January 2017
I admit that there are good moments snuck in but, over all it is just a Carefully choreographed puff promotion for the little douchebag. Kevin Hart hosted and fell all over his little self to be the ld's best buddy. Martha Stewart why was she there? The links to illegal behavior maybe. Other similar qualities to the ld's, like childish rage at underlings and horrible breath? We may never know for sure. Jeffrey Ross, okay he's funny finally in his waning years. Hannibal Buress is another of ld's sycophants, meh. Chris D'Elia has to say yes to any on air opportunity otherwise no connection, eh? LD's SNL acquaintance Pete Davidson likewise. Ludicrous, who is that? A rapper no one listens to, especially not here. The Shaq, one of LD's photo op friends for TMZ and paparazzi and nowhere else. Snoop Dog, sometimes he's accidentally funny forgetting lines because he's too stoned, and the connection to sleeping with Martha Stewart I guess; has he even met LD before or remember if he did? So that leaves Will Ferrell who did a little skit and carefully avoided interaction with LD, mildly amusing. Overall again just a Carefully choreographed puff promotion for the little douchebag.

Watch Detectorists! Charming funny and inspired
14 January 2017
We loved this, streaming both seasons of episodes from Netflix. So sad they didn't pick it up for a 3rd season and beyond. It's a bit like an understated version of Andy of Mayberry for the Brits, a slice of English country life with adorable quirky characters. Toby Jones and the rest of the cast are spot on. It made me want to go visit the English countryside again. This time with a metal detector. Doing some research, I see that they filmed in Framlingham. Framlingham's most famous attraction is its Norman castle, where Mary Tudor was proclaimed Queen of England in 1553. But the first Detectorists landmark is next door: the Scout Hall where Danebury Metal Detecting Club meet, better known to locals as St Michaels Rooms, which are available for hire if you'd like to host your own meeting (I just might do that).

Uwe Boll FINALLY makes a good film
3 December 2016
Channeling the worst kind of rat brain conspiracy gun nut insanity that is the real Uwe Boll on chat boards, he's finally authentic. Brendan Fletcher is great. The fierce anger and frustration of a high school shooter are vividly portrayed. Good twist at the end.Matt Frewer is great counterpoint as the weak liberal dad. Lynda Boyd is okay but, she is normally so sexy, it might have been a good idea to inject some mother son fun. By the last comment, you may understand that this movie is not for everyone, just people without a politically correct stick jiggling out your ass. So, watch it with your teenage son if you dare. It's bound to strike a chord or nerve or a nerve chord. Lots of Joe-bob-Briggs-level crude mayhem. Regarding screen violence, there is video game style violence of the kind when you've decided to make your character pure evil and shoot the bunnies along the path and all the helpful villagers. So, you might think of this as true escapist fare, a what-if satire, certainly not a high school shooter blueprint you nervous nellies. I really enjoyed it.

Keep making movies like Deadpool
3 May 2016
We really enjoyed this one. Great writing, lots of action, excellent comic timing, blowed lots of stuff up real good... Keep this team together and make more I say. RE Ryan Reynolds, I never took him seriously before, and maybe it's because this happens to be the perfect wisecracking witty role to finally showcase properly, so now we have one good memory to erase the sadness of Blade Trinity, RIPD etc. RE writers Rheese and Wernick who also wrote Zombieland screenplay - I really think you have a good team there - keep doing what you're doing, don't let egos, a Yoko or agent split you up. Director Tim Miller comes from an animation background and applies an animator's sense of motion that really added to the pacing and style. Some may say there's too much gratuitous violence and nakedness but, they may be getting used to the sanitized family content of most comic book films. As long as this gets put into the adult category with Tarentino and Frank Miller (Sin City), the rest of us will have a place to party away from the Harper Valley PTA.

Worst script and dialogue - who green lights this sad heap?
3 May 2016
Awful movie, waste of time and bewildering how enormous amounts of money could be thrown at this, especially with the substandard script and dialogue. Maybe there was some tension between writers David Leslie Johnson and his smooth young protégé Dan Mazeau. From previous interview: "David Leslie Johnson, he's not a skilled writer, nor gifted with the clever gene, not a creator of quality work, and with all these handicaps he manages to get high profile Hollywood jobs, all of which become one star movies, so he must be doing something horribly loathsome to keep getting hired back." 'spoil' alert: DLJ is 'writing' for the upcoming Aquaman movie - (he'll probably 'spoil' it, ha)
