Qala (2022)

So close to a good film, yet so far !!

#Qala feels more like a lost opportunity.

The screenplay is not convincing at multiple places. Himachali people wearing black when Jagan dies is absurd. Looks like director's forced attempt to have black & white (snow) to make frame aesthetic.

Nevertheless, The snow setting adds to beauty of frames. Cinematography by Siddharth Diwan needs special applause.

Music is already topping charts. Amit Trivedi's best work in years. BGM is good. Sets are good but are not well researched. Director could have explored dark side of Qala with some more details.

Overall if you have patience & love for music you can sit through Qala!

Godavari (2021)

Marathi cinema at its best!!

I don't think any review can capture the essence of the movie. This is an experience...a warm hug of life.

The background music is anything that I have heard before.

Nikhil Mahajan proves yet again (after Pune 52) why he is master of storytelling. The pain just so beautiful!! Cinematography is apt ,each frame has own beauty.

Jitendra Joshi,Vikram Gokhale,Neena Kulakarni,Sanjay Mone all are in sublime form.

The set pieces are surely gonna make you immerse in the depth. I was spellbound. Hope they release the OST

Marathi cinema at its best!!Watch it only in theaters!!

We need such movies to take Marathi cinema to world.

Monica, O My Darling (2022)

Trueblue Noir: An ode to the sexiest song of Bollywood!

51 years ago RD Burman s thumping music & Asha's sultry voice in Piya tu took the industry by storm.

& Now Vasan Bala uses the legendary so delightfully that the movie feels like a perfect tribute to one of sexiest song Bollywood has ever produced.

The movie is adapted from an japnese novel. The jealousy rivalry kingpins of the company politics are perfectly captured. The absurdity of humanity is such a key element of Balas films be it Mard ko dard nahi hota or be it X-ray.

The comedy of errors has a solid ensemble cast all are in a top form. Anchit's (yes ! Same guy who composed Scam 1992 theme) music sparks the scenes just like Quentin Tarantino's movies .The color palate of movie has tones of red dominating constantly reminding of the murders?!(Red scooter,red paint splash,red neon colour in factory ) Cooked Radhika's character towers over all others.

Brownie points to the cacophony include a welcome lack of moralising, a cheerfully wicked dark tone.

Movie looses steam somewhere towards end but still has enough twists towards end to keep you hooked. It's far from a classic movie like Andhadhun yet so close.

So Did Jayant die ?

If you say yes then well you didn't notice he survived it last time when hengot them in a giftbox!! A perfect cliffhanger ;) During that scene Kusumagraj's poem fakt ladh mhana is also given a tribute.

Vari scene during face off between when gaurya tries to kill Jayant is chef's kiss.

Trivia: Couple of blink and miss movie references include Johnny Gaddar playing on screen. It has some layers from parasite reference.

Masoom (2022– )

Too much Naive

The writing is so shallow that even great performances cant save this series.

The show has so many similarities with Tabbar but never reaches those levels. The script is just made to revolve around establishing grey shade around Boman's character.

Overall 3 hrs show watch only if you are Masoom to digest this weak script.

Jalsa (2022)

Jalsa Daddy Jalsa!

The tiltle of the movie is quite vague untill climax.

Hit & run case drama which dwells in dark side human of nature is brilliantly perfomed on screen. Vidya, Shefali both are too good.

BGM, Cinematography & production is quite good. Screenplay is crisp.

Usual subject with unique handling & honest performances makes this movie worth a watch.

Jhund (2022)

All the way Manjule Show

The movie starts with typical sports template & first half is fast paced as well as quite hilarious.

Bachchan is just pitch perfect & Kids have done a fab job. Cinematography, BGM & Production values are great.

Manjule's direction is quite good. He wants to touch many points & this doesn't give opportunity to soak into the moment hence emotional scenes lack the impact.

Film is thought provoking & needs to be watched !!!

Gehraiyaan (2022)

Neither too Deep Nor too Shallow 'Noir'

Gehraiyaan starts as romantic drama but slowly starts dwelling into dark territory of deceit & complexities of humans. It is a urban Noir

I just wished if few 'solo' scenes could have shown vulnerability of Sidhant Chaturvedi. For those who felt same should watch Marathi movie Pune52.

Nikhil Mahajan captured melancholy of all characters so beautifully you almost feel it to bones. Sadly Shakun fails here.

But overall 2nd half is pacey & BGM, cinematography overall color palate of the movie is just too good. Deepika is top notch.

The final line : ''You are Alisha, right?'' was just a perfect end for the movie which leaves you with so much to ponder on.

The Great Indian Murder (2022– )

'Murder of a promising book'

The subplots running in each episodes are too shallow with Uncountable illogical situations .Dialogues & screenplay both are poor. Technical aspects are average. You hardly feel engaged Ashutosh rana is only saving grace. Rest cast is wasted.

Recent book adaptations : white tiger & now this one both are destroyed brutally. Books delve much deeper & are atmospheric.

Sadly series looks hollow.

Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein (2022– )

Story is full of loopholes or loopholes mein story daali hai god knows!!

Characters are written badly & shallow Screenplay drags. Cinematography, noteworthy music & production values along with decent performances save this series.

Director's previous outings were way better Undekhi & Apaharan (a commercial masala series which is also realistic) But sadly this classic name & a good concept is wasted.

Aranyak (2021– )

Netflix's Candy

If you have watched Candy on Voot, this will give you deja vu.

The storyline moves with similar characters: Protagonist , politician ,drugs & 'the mystery character'. Even the ending seems pretty same with rise of a evil side of a character

Overall just a average watch.

Karkhanisanchi Waari: Ashes on a road trip (2021)

Dark Humor & Stellar cast !

This is cracker of a film. Subtle dark humor & Marathi stalwarts make this movie a must watch. Dark comedy in MARATHI is somethin we hardly see & hence its a special film in its own.

The story is not novel but treatment is unique. Some scenes are bit forced but overall cinematography & decent paced screenplay makes it worth a watch.

Do watch for few good laughs & honest performances.

Bob Biswas (2021)

Abhishek does a fine job of getting under Skin of Bob.

The story build up at start but again it scatters all over.

Towards end picks up pace & ends on a decent note.

BGM & Cinematography deserves applause.

Overall a good spin-off!! Maybe first in Bollywood.

Kudos to debutant director :)

Steady frame shots,minimal background score adds to brilliance of story telling. Cinematography captures old pune well.

If you have seen Undekhi you know what director is capable of.

But he falls short this time.

Each episode brings in twist.

Great performances, but just a decent story.

Few things are illogical & few over the top. Richa screams as always

PS : 10k ratings & 1k reviews : Voot has definitely PAID a lot of money to get this show as one of top rated :)

Has its heart at right place. Decent story elevated by great acting.

Welcome change in Marathi content .Thanks TVF :)

Cons: After 2 eps pace slows. Director tries hard to bring in philosophical/spiritual touch to the story. Dinar's becoming Baba seems illogical & hence climax falls flat.

Nevertheless one time watch. Surely remind you of your friends.

A near perfect feel good movie : MUST WATCH!!

The movie is just a perfect mix of humor, emotions & reality. Crisp screenplay will keep you engaged.

Sarcastic people of Pune especially that 'solapur chatni ' lady made me laugh hard. Neena Kulkarni is good as always. Rest of cast does nice job.

Music goes well with the mood. Cinematography & production is at par.

Overall a must watch : surely will make you forget worries :)

Starts with a dull note ends on a bright one!

'Majnu' : Not much twists, no character detailing .Can be skipped

Khilauna : Deals with dark subject, dwells on class divide. Songs & BGM nice

Geeli Puchi: LGBT Story ; decent watch

Ankahee: I liked this most. Touching story Nice acting & direction.

Prateek Kuhad's song is too good.

Technical aspects in all 4 films are good.

Worth a watch!!

Kudos to director for a brave attempt to showcase Dark side of society.

Story is not so fresh we have seen similar concepts in Hollywood but what stands out in This social thriller is domestic violence against women & child shown in gripping manner.

The dialogues used to convey message/describe violence in protagonists lives seems bit forced/unnatural. More light on villains mentality could have made it much better film. Lets find Dead body scene in middle was stupidity 😢 Nevertheless its a nice attempt & deserves applause.

Inspired Dutch series PENOZA , Arya screenplay dwells between being a drama cum crime. In this 9 Hr long series,Ram madhvani takes his own time to shift gears.But if editor was crisp atleast 2 episodes can be snipped out. But Sushmita holds script together with her brilliant act as Sherani.Sikander kher gives a killer performance. Technical aspects ,production design & dialogues are decent. Can be watched once !!!

Nice concept but..

Story as in trailer looks interesting but let down by sub par execution.Except Jimmy & few others ,most characters are over dramatic or immature.Production design, cinematography & BGM is just average. Screenplay also drags at places & total runtime of 6 hrs, no good dialogues hampers the drama.
