Saturday Night Live: Molly Shannon/Jonas Brothers (2023)
Worst episode this season
So far this season SNL has been very hit and miss, which is not unexpected given that most of the veteran cast members left. That can be forgiven. I was hopeful that this episode would be a hit when I saw that Molly Shannon was hosting. It wasn't. The cold open was quite funny to me, although I know some people might take offense. However, if SNL hasn't already offended you enough to stop watching, this won't bother you. Unfortunately, the show went straight downhill after the cold open. My wife and I snickered once or twice during the first sketch, but afterward I was thinking, " If that's the best choice to lead off the show, it could be a rough one." It was. The writing throughout was bad. The "please don't destroy" video not nearly as amusing as usual, and Heidi Gardner's bit on the news as "your overworked co-worker" was interminable. There wasn't even a Mary Catherine Gallagher skit to bring back some good old memories. If you haven't watched it already, just watch the cold open, and don't waste your time on the rest. Go back and rewatch Pedro Pascal's episode instead.
Dexter: New Blood: Sins of the Father (2022)
What is wrong with you people?
Nearly everyone hated the original ending, because he lived, and now you hate this ending because he died? Seriously? The only reason they brought this show back was to try to make up for what went over so poorly for most fans the first time around. If you didn't think there was a good chance of him not surviving this, then you just weren't paying attention. Also, did you think they had Dex give Harrison a gun just for that one scene shooting bottles?
I, for one, loved all ten episodes. I'm glad they brought it back, and I'm fine with them killing him off.
Yesterday (2019)
A must see...
...as long as you don't need guns, explosions, car chases or super heroes. This film entertained my wife and me from start to finish. It definitely helps if you are a Beatles fan (we are), and a rom-com fan (she is).
The acting was good; especially Lily James, the writing was great, the plot was strong with a couple of surprises that weren't in the trailer, and the chemistry between the main characters was excellent. What more can you want? I'm buying the digital copy as soon as it comes out.
