A Ghost Story (2017)
Deep minds required
If you're mostly interested in films with constant drama, terror, or action, this film is not for you... But if you immerse yourself into films of psychological depth and philosophical thought, you'll understand what makes this film profound. Yes, the journey is slow, but the "oh sh-t" moments are worth it. The story that is told is not one you can predict, so leave your mind open and feel ALL the feels when they hit you. Very interesting film, David Lowery. Well done.
Singularity (2017)
It was so bad it made me angry
I could not stop checking how far I was from the end... What a forgettable piece of trash! And the lead guy, please never ever cast him in anything EVER AGAIN! What a terrible actor he was! Wide eyed deer 80% of the time. "Oh I'm a robot boy but somehow my super cpu brain can't comprehend anything I see, beep boop beep." Terrible. I streamed this movie on Netflix but I'd put it in a shredder if I had it on disc. Nothing was accurate, what so ever. If Walking Dead can do the apocalyptic world guys, guess what, you could try a little harder. And the end! What in the world was that?! Let's have an emotional moment while we're desperately running out of seconds to leave the planet! And where were all these cameras that the big bad robot guys were using to view them like that?!! How did that even work? There's so many holes in this story, that I don't know how it held together at all. I only finished it because I believe in giving movies a fair chance, but this movie?! Don't. I'm actually mad about this movie. Waste. Of. Time. I need a cigarette.
Parfum (2018)
The style of suspense has me entranced
Full disclosure, I've only watched two episodes as of now. I'm so impressed with the flirtatious use of suspenseful storytelling. Deutsche programme sind einer meine Favoriten und Parfüm ist ein perfekt Beispiel dafür! European films and shows like this, are truly challenging Hollywood to do better. The only downfall of shows like this is the six episode standard, while we are used to devouring 10-16 per season in the US. Perhaps it will allow for more appreciation. With that said, please, bitte, make another season. Since this is supposed to be a review, not an open letter to Philip Kadelbach and the producers, I can only say that you must watch it if you enjoy dark drama that takes your mind for a ride. The actors do a magnificent job making you hate or pity them, depending on their character's story. I won't be binging this show... It deserves the respect of one thinking about it when away from the TV. My recommendation is to savor it. I suppose I ought to give the book a go as well. Vielen Dank, Deutschland!
The Young Ones (1982)
Wonderfully entertaining mess
Darling Fascist Bully Boy, I'm not a film reviewer, yet here I am. This show inspired me to name my daughter after the sociable and cuddly character Vyvyan. Confusing at times, other times ridiculous, and other other times witty, this series tests your loyalty to British comedy. Didn't find it funny? Watch it again. Pay attention. If you watch the entire series without a laugh, I can guarantee you're a sociopath... Or dead. Watch it until you find it funny. Good show to smoke a bowl to. I think I've avoided making an actual point successfully. May the seed of your loins be fruitful in the belly of your woman, Neil.
