Another Earth (2011)
Horrible slow movie filled with bad acting and plot wholes the size of earth
In the famous words of Brando.
"You don't understand! I coulda had class. I coulda been a contender. I could've been somebody, instead of a bum, which is what I am
This sums up this movie to a tee.
The story is about a young girl just getting started on her life who makes a terrible decision which costs her own future.
This in itself is a poorly done plot, since most people in the US know that if your under 18 the legal system doesn't treat you as an adult and even though the accident had a fatal consequences, the outcome would have good chance of not ending as we seen in this movie, a under 18 would also have gotten her records sealed even if she is 21 when she comes out of jail.
But it's something that you can overlook if it wasn't because the movie itself keeps this premise up and continue down a slow road and adds to the plot holes.
Another fatal failure is the whole concept about another earth that mimics Earth 1 if you know anything about the multiverse you know that even though yes there is copies they won't be the exact same I could easily continue with other key elements but that would be spoiling the movie for those who despite this warning still goes and rents it.
Because combined with the plot the acting is absolutely horrible, the young girl played by Brit Marling is unbelievable pale and artificial and not very trustworthy in the role and almost every sentence she has seem to be read direct from a script. William Mapother who plays John is also stale and when we think of him as the same guy we have seen in lost its almost unbearable to see him in this B-rated movie that would be best left alone as a script on the bottom of some directors desk
So don't waste your time watching this because it's a hour and half better spent on something else perhaps go give your family a nice night out or watch paint dry.
The Hunger Games (2012)
Not Another Teen movie, poor acting and poor script
Sometimes you have to wonder about the teenagers in the world and if they really are the right people to leave the earth to when you see first a book then a movie like Hunger Games come out and become a instant box office hit.
The movie itself is about a girl who takes the place of her sister in a annual game held by the rulers. That in it self is a decent plot and expected a decent action movie of course with some romance as i was under no delusion that this was a teen movie and have heard about the book from my friends.
But what i got was almost like watching Twilight, 2 guys and then the girl and without spoilers we all know what that leads to, also of course the girl is way way better then any guy and proves to be quite the Rambo.
All in all its a OK movie for teenager girls but if you are older then 18 and not a girl i cannot recommend this movie to anyone except perhaps to do something sweet for a girl.
Limitless (2011)
Thriller which doesn't demand to much of you as a viewer
Robert De Niro is usually a sure way to know that the movie is going to be above average and this is the case again even though he is put back in the movie and takes a backseat.
This does not make the movie any less watchable but it does not make it good either.
The movie is story which revolves around the myth that humans only use 10% of their brain and what might be possible if we could use all of it Bradley Cooper plays the main guy and he does it very well, his acting is beliveble and you could not expect more.
The only problem with the movie is that its not deep or comes with any moral suggestions or lecture, so if you like a action movie where you can turn the brain of and enjoy then this is definitely the one to see.
Just don't expect a deep movie or a movie that demands anything of you as a viewer.
Beastly (2011)
Done Before and better
This movie is the same old story which has been made into countless movies. We have a person who is a obsessed by his good looks and therefore of course will be punished and will not become his old self until he has gone through some trials that will teach him that beauty comes from within and not based on the outside. We all know that in the real world this is not the case and it's a fairy-tale.
Going into the movie i did not have high hopes and i must admit i was surprised not because the movie is that good, but because it's not that bad either, the story has been done 100 times and has been done better than this but something about the main actors makes you feel pleasantly entertained and if you have 1½ hour which have to be spent on something this movie is not the worst thing to throw on the DVD.
Just don't expect to be wowed or see anything new and anything that hasn 't been done before.
Therefore i cannot in good will give it more than a 2.
