Too naive for a sci-fi
24 March 2019
I love time paradox sci-fi films, and I have a three-year-old son - so I thought I would really enjoy this one.

Unfortunately, I was wrong.

The whole concept and execution had me thinking the film is from the late eighties, and not 2000. It lost me at the very beginning, and never got me back.

Characters and their relationships are not convincing. The whole sci-fi aspect is more explained like a magic trick than anything else.

Overall, Frequency was a disappointment for me.

Baby Driver (2017)

Overrated and overpraised
30 October 2017
Here it goes: I am 36 year old male and like to think that I have some basic knowledge and taste when it comes to films.

In general I avoid Hollywood blockbusters (superhero films aside), but the overall great reception of Baby Driver made me go for it.

And yes, I had some expectations as well.

Yes, there are plot holes and yes, the storytelling is messy, but my biggest problem with the film is that it has a huge identity problem:

  • It tries to be so much at once (musical, action, romance, crime, ...)

And at the end it fails at being ... well anything else than a big disappointment.

I do not recommend investing 2 hours in this one.

Cheers!

Zoolander 2 (2016)

IMDb Ratings are broken - This is a solid comedy
20 June 2016
Here is the thing - too many times I have made a mistake to watch a film only based on it's IMDb rating or reviews.

This crucial piece of information that is missing here is:

  • who is rating/reviewing the title?

  • which other films did the one love/hate?

That is why I want to give some information about me before giving my two cents on Zoolander2:

  • 35 year old male

  • as a kid I loved Mel Brooks films, Hot Shots Franchise, Jim Carrey Works...

  • I love brother Farrelly comedies

  • I enjoy most of Ben Stiller works (Cable Guy, Tropic Thunder...)

Now, with this information in mind, we can proceed:

In spite of bad ratings I chose to watch this one, and I didn't regret it. It is a well crafted over the top comedy with some clever and satirical gags.

Because of the fact that it's over the top - from start to finish, I don't have any problems with the story.

I guess it just depends on the mindset and maybe the mood. Both me and my wife had many laughs during the whole film.

Was it predictable? Yes. But I wasn't expecting it to be any different :)

I hope this helps.

Peace out.
