CSI: Cyber (2015)
I am in the minority because...I like it!
I do like this show, and Arquette is playing a very different character for her.
I like the tech, I like the cast which is coming together, and I like that the show is fun. I am not one who tears holes in shows. I go with the flow, and this show is entertaining. I have seen the first 3 episodes and I have enjoyed all 3.
I do see some people's points about the tech lingo, a lot of computer looking, and the action scenes not being the best. Yet. Every show starts somewhere and the cast and stories start to glue.
Arquette's character is smart, tough, and does have a sense of humor. She keeps things close to the vest for obvious reasons, and I am sure she will be having some kind of breakdown, etc. shortly. I want to learn more about this character.
Give it a chance people and just enjoy it.
Bridge to Terabithia (2007)
Wonderfully authentic tale of friendship and loss...
What a wonderful film. What heartfelt emotions. I will defend this film to the end, saying that those who felt misled by the previews are at fault for not doing there research. I have never in my life seen a film based on commercials and trailers alone. I do my research, and try my best to not stumble across spoilers. That being said, I had never read the book (until after seeing the film), and knew the film was in the imagination of the lead characters, not to be mistaken for 'Narnia' or "LOTR' films. All of that out of the way, this film is filled with love, human connections, and imagination. Even though this movie deals with death/loss, it is important for children to be able to talk about this with their parents. Death is death with in an appropriate way (we do not see the death, Jess goes through the different stages of loss), and we see what positive things can come of it. I have seen the film 2 times, and have never cried more at a film. Why? AnnaSophia Robb created such a beautiful and special character in her Leslie Burke, that the audience cannot help but be as heartbroken as Jess. So, bring the kids (no younger than 7) and a box off tissues, and enjoy this emotional, creative, and fun family film.
Goodbye Lover (1998)
Good ole' Trashy FUN!
What an under-rated gem of a film! Why Warner brothers did not push to promote this in 1999 is a mystery to me. Sure, it is a mix of genres. that is what makes a good and interesting film. The cast is just perfect. Patricia Arquette clearly relishes in this role, as the sultry, devious, silly, and obsessive Sandra Dunmore. Here blunt bob haircut says it all. Don't mess with her. As always, her performance makes most of the film, and easily holds the audience attention through each twist and turn. Ellen Degeras is a bit over the top in her role as Rita Pompeno, the over eating and negative detective, however is still funny. If you want to sit back and have fun, mix up a cocktail and watch this film with friends. You will all be smiling.
True Romance (1993)
Arquette shines
What a wonderful performance by the lovely Patricia Arquette. Even though this film did not do well at the box office, it jump-started Arquette's career which has been on an up and down ride ever since. The film itself is wild, fun, and full of vibrant and exciting characters and scenes. Who can forget Alabama Vs. The Hit-man? People view the violence in this film as over the top, at least for 1993. if you are going to be offended by this movie, then you may as well be offended by all movies with violence. And congrats to Arquette for her Emmy winning performance in "Medium", where she has also been nominated for a Golden Globe, SAG, and Golden Satellite award!
Medium (2005)
Another hit performance for ARQUETTE
Yet again, Patricia Arquette delivers a perfectly believable and emotionally honest performance. It is nice to see her get an Emmy nomination for her first television series, as she had been criminally underrated in films for the last 19 years. The show centers around Arquette's character and she is nearly every scene of each episode. It is refreshing to see a REAL woman on television these days: Arquette is short, she has meat to her bones, her teeth are not perfect, and she has a few lines in her face. These all make her who she is as a person, and add layers to her acting. We are not watching a botoxed actress in her mid-30's and older who can no longer move her forehead (can you say Nicole Kidman anyone???). It is too bad other shows do not have such likable, and talented, leads like her.
Beyond Rangoon (1995)
Wonderful work by ARQUETTE as usual...where is the DVD???
"Beyond Rangoon" is simply marvelous. From the traumatic opening to the uplifting ending, you will be amazed at how well put together this film is. Patricia Arquette amazingly portrays Laura Bowman, who we meet as a shut-down and quit despondent young doctor, unable to deal with her grief over the loss of her husband and son. Throughout the course of the film, as she is trapped in Burma, witnesses the Democratic uprise and massacres in the capital city of Rangoon, flees for her life, and saves her tour-guide's (U Aung Ko's) life, she is regaining her will to live. This may seen contrived or heavy handed: it is not. John Boorman, a master at spiritual and emotional conflict, paints the film with broad strokes, and often uses symbolism to capture Laura's emotional state, and physical predicament. Patricia Arquette, as usual, gives a wonderfully convincingly and believable performance as the emotionally wounded Laura. What Arquette does amazingly, in any role that she plays, is give us a window into her character's heart without words. Every time she is given a close up in the film, the audience is given insight into her character. She does not need to speak to convey emotions, or be over the top. Some critics were harsh on Arquette's performance in the film when it opened on August 25, 1995, deeming that she was "flat" or "dull" in the role. I found her characterization dead-on, staying well away from the melodramatics that typically are part of an actor's performance when having a personally tragedy take place. She is on shock and is reserved about her feelings: that is just as normal as screaming lashing out at those around you. I am hoping that Warner Brothers releases this title on DVD very soon. With Arquette's hugely successful NBC drama" Medium" bringing her to household name status, not to mention an Emmy win and now 2007 nomination, it would be in the studio's best interest to do so. Hopefully there will be extras, with the alternate ending. Do not by pass by this film. It is one that you will certainly not forget after seeing.
