Love Happens (2009)
It looks nice but that's where it ends.
Two popular actors play flawed people who always look impeccable. Cliches and tropes abound. Suspension of disbelief is required for this movie to work for you.
Things we are told to believe in this movie...
DeWalt circular saws are sold without a box or a price tag. - False
Parrots can survive in Washington state's natural habitat. - False
The best way to help someone deal with grief is harass and shame them in a group setting, repeatedly. - False
Grief can be sorted with a shopping spree. *Note, if you are male this must be at a manly establishment like Home Depot. - False *(FWIW, if you are a contractor you don't get a standard shopping cart, you get a wheeled dolly cart meant for building materials)
Eloise gets cheated on twice and then leaves her boyfriend without taking anything with her. How real was that relationship if she has absolutely nothing of meaning at his place? Aniston never even "acts" upset about it. Honestly it seemed more like the reaction you'd have if you went to the bakery and they were out of your favorite scone. P'shaw!
Burke falls for a graffiti prone florist who uses sign language to rebuff his advances. WTF? Even though she uses sign language correctly (Which we're never told why she even knows how to use it) since she seemingly has no deaf relatives or coworkers it's terribly out of place and smacks of appropriation. Uncool.
Self Help gurus are more messed up than you. - Okay, that one is true. ;-)
Tesla (2020)
Tesla Karaoke
He speaks more to women in the movie than he ever did in real life. How do we know this? Real historical facts based on people who knew him. Think of how the writers could have looked up these bits of info while Ethan Hawke sang Tears for Fears karaoke.
Les goûts et les couleurs (2018)
Generally offensive all the way round
This movie is in the style of a French farce. That being said, there will be lots of steroetypes made within. It thinks it's a progressive love story, but it's really just offensive to:
Lesbians, Bisexuals, Jews, Muslims, People of color and Gay men. I could go into detail, but then I'd spoil it for you. Why do that when at the end of this movie you'll just be as disappointed as I was.
Two stars because it looked and sounded good. Kudos to the cinematographer and the score composer.
