The Karate Kid Part III (1989)
Rushed and juvenile.
This movie isnt as bad as ppl say, its not Super Troopers or American pie, aka the 'stupid American' movies we roll our eyes at over in Europe. But its still a half-assed movie.
So i decide to write a 2020 review, since they wanted to revive part 1 by making these lame series now turning the tables on many aspects, which serves no purpose other than generating income for these old actors. So they are looking at the OG villains through a different lens.. John Kreese was the egomaniac/inferiority complex unethical guy who corrupted Johnny and Johnny's gang in part 1, so why bring him up again and also why hire Ralph Macchio again in his 50s. I never disliked Johnny btw and I never liked Daniel - if a different actor played the role, Id like Daniel more.
I believe it was a bad casting choice in the first place. In part 1 I find myself wanting Johnny to win, in all honesty. Part 2, i liked Daniel more, but I hate how he looks and acts like a little kid. Daniel in part 3 is even more annoying and doesnt deserve Miyagi who has now lost some of the prestige he had in part 1&2. Daniel has gained that kind of estrogenic weight, he is swollen but with legs and arms like sticks, plus the actor was 28 yrs old and still looked like an awkward 16 yr old, walking funny and clumsy on his toes, constantly fidgeting and trying to make his voice sound manly - cringe fest. No wonder he cant keep a girl. I mean even the awkward way he is looking at Terry Silver talking to him (esp at the dojo), he seems intimidated and I cannot tell if that was part of Macchio's acting or spontaneous reaction because Ian Griffith was younger than Macchio yet he looks like a grown man (not talking about when Daniel seems confused as to why Silver offers help). Also that girl Jessica let him down by announcing that she will go back to her bf, no doubt, and so Daniel's journey is romance-free, and thats fine for a nerdy boy like him, but why invest so much movie-time in their friendship with Jessica. The set up of that store is also pointless and I was hoping we could see it evolve at least.
Many pointed out in their reviews that the acting and roles of the villains were over-the-top, esp Ian Griffith's; I think this was the director's instructions, they wanted to convey that cartoon-type of the villain who is a mentally ill obsessed stalker. There is some truth to that, since I have witnessed in real life people acting and laughing like that when they bully someone. So not totally unrealistic BUT they have Terry Silver hysterically laugh like Jafar in his bathrobe lol and hide in the chimney, wtf. Thats very Home Alone-like and juvenile, so definitely it was the director's orders and not bad acting. I wish these parts were missing. I honestly believe the movie is watchable thanks to Pat Morita and Ian Griffith, the first one inspires respect and the latter is my kind of hot, and I also like the way the actor talks to Daniel in his face, looking at him like a snake ready to attack.
I also like how Miyagi in this movie teaches Daniel that tournaments are a degradation and exploitation of that ancient art, and shouldnt be used as a means of gaining wealth or an ego/power boost. The reason why Miyagi challenged them to the tournament in part one was more ethical, so that the rivalry among these teens would end, and he supposedly taught Kreese a lesson too at the very end. Part 1 btw shows many impressive athletes in the tournament that Daniel was far from so we are aware than Danny wasnt as skilled. What I hate in part 3 is how Daniel cares more about bonsai than karate. he seems to have lost any skill he once had, acting like a beginner, making Miyagi look bad. Again, the only reason I watch this movie again is Miyagi and Terry Silver.
Fixer Upper (2013)
great duo!
The goofball & the tomboy. love them both and the work they do. I like how Chip gets down and dirty, he looks like an actual blue collar guy because I'm tired of the yuppie boys "renovating" houses on TV. I also appreciate Joanna's style. Their work doesn't look the same in every episode. They do impress me. Chip is funny, he can be too much showing off esp when he acts like a 4 yr old for his wife's attention but it's cute and her reactions too. He reminds me of Kevin Costner and Joanna reminds me of Pocahontas. They're energetic and youthful. The way they reveal the new house is fun. I think these two know their job well. They have created some great country style house renovations that stick to my mind. They don't stick to one pattern. I like how Chip gets into concrete work. Their style brings something new to HGTV.
Flip or Flop (2013)
greedy realtors
We watch a typical spoiled prissy diva talking like a gay dude "oh my goooosh, ewww that's disgustiiiing" who overeacts when she sees dust or a cockroach and a mouse and her greedy money obsessed husband who talks money and properties even to his little daughter. The fat "L" and "R" of her accent make me nauseous. I don't mind Christina being all done up,I myself have fake boobs and im a model/athlete but im a handy woman, when I have a project I go all out sweaty and do the heavy lifting, so it would be more fun if the girl didn't worry about breaking a nail. Whats disturbing is their attitude and how spoiled they both are. I've met realtors like them, who value cosmetics on a piece of junk house just so that they can make more profit. They take run down houses with rickety foundation and major issues but all they care about is to make the design look "pretty" and appealing to the victim buyers who will be stuck with a polished covered up junk and a loan. What they sell is the "American dream" hence why the show always shows off their success. The dream is pretty much their luxury unwrinkled lifestyle (LV purses, always perfect nails and hair and different expensive cars in each episode) and the American nightmare of the persons who buy their overpriced properties. They spend a lot to make a bad house decent and then they have to sell it higher to make up for the loss. American houses are fake to begin with. My dad is a mathematician but he builds houses in Europe as a hobby, we rent some of our property, they're houses made of concrete, stone, real marble and bricks so I showed this show to him and he cringed at the poor constructions made of thin cheap wood, houses with no real foundation priced so high - in one episode they lift up the whole house lol. Same old box houses, sloppy work, add some bling, quick cash, some numbers on the screen and "time to find another house to flip" SMH.
