Who is responsible for this!?
24 March 2024
The german animation genre is a ruin, this show is a further proof for it. This is show is one of the worst things I had to see for a long time.

The art style (if one can call that art) is abysmal. If you think Brickleberry or Paradies PD was badly drawn, this takes the top of ugly. Soulless, bland and uninspired. It looks like a very late 90ies flash animation by some (talentless) amateur. Even if with a tight and limited production budget one can create a decent look, shows like Bojack Horseman (which they are clearly inspired by) are a good example for it.

The animation consists more or less out of talking heads, some janky body movements and camera tracking shots where they seem to have forgotten how to ease in bezier curves.

The audio sounds at certain times like voice actors recorded it via skype on low quality. A lot of standart sound bites where used (which would be fine) but were not properly mixed down.

I wont get into the "story". They try to copy current adult animated shows, which would be Ok for me. If done well like Stromberg, Die Discounter, etc., which where clearly copies or inspired by well known shows, but worked well on their own because they understood the source material and added their own spin on it. But with this show it seems that some producer had a field day taking the fun out and tone it down for the german state tv (at least I hope that's the reason for it). It tries to be edgy but in such a cringe way that I am ashamed to concider myself a german.

Whoever greenlight this should be fired and I seriously asking myself if this is not an attempt to launder public fundings. Germany has so few 2D animated productions, none of them dared to be for an adult audience until now and I am afraid this attempt will be the first and already final nail in the coffin. Germany has a lot of talented artists, animators and filmmakers, young and old - I guess none of them were involved with this production. Shame.

Nothing new arises
14 June 2023
It's decently made. Fx is solid, practical effects are nicely done. The actors are mostly solid. It's watchable. But somehow it did not catch me. The flow of the movie feels too constructed, the mythological part of the book is way to reduced and somehow there it was severely lacking editing wise.

Ironically evil dead rise reminded me a lot of the movie demons 2 from 1986, which was by itself a Italian rip-off of the original evil dead.

But evil dead rise is missing that retro charme feeling. Maybe if I watch it in 30 years from now, it will elevate this mediocre movie to a similar cult fandom.

That '90s Show (2023– )

It´s so dull...
1 February 2023
Could not get through the second episode. Once again it feels like netflix is running an AI-Script-Programm to write this stuff. Absolutely NOTHING unexpected is happening. None of the jokes are landing or catch you off guard.

The comedic timing is off or no existent. Just because a laugh-track marks the joke, doesnt make it funny. The original "that 70ies Show" was one of the better standard tv-shows in that time but nothing extraordinary. But the 90s version makes the 70ies show look like pure comedy gold.

The main cast is more or less a bland mix of generic netflix teens with no salt and pepper. Even with all the nostalgia glued on it, it´s not working.

The Batman (2022)

Good, but..
20 June 2022
..not the holy grail of Batman movies. For the worlds greatest detective, he´s sure struggling with (some) quite easy riddles. ;)

Solid movie otherwise. I really liked the gloomy tone of the movie. Also the whole "detective" aspect. The actors did a solid job as well. The last half hour of the movie felt bloated and unnecessary long, but i guess, they had to do a "action-packed" finale to keep up with marvel.

7,5 out of 10.

barely entertaining

Venom 2 is following the same trend like the first part. It feels like one of the first superhero movies ever made. If you are looking for the "real" venom experience you maybe want to wait for part 3, maybe then they have figured it out how to do a proper movie.

Shame that they wasted carnage already for this part.

It's not THAT bad...
20 November 2021
Most of the actors doing their job well and are sympathic. Except the guy who plays vicious is truly a misscast. At certain moments the show felt really rushed and cheap made. Also the actionscenes seemed somewhat off. Some changes to the story left me also my head scratching. I was entertained nonetheless.

Yes it's really not that good...
16 November 2021
After the surprisingly good Halloween from 2018 I wanted to see for myself if the bad reviews are true. Well, yes they are... Mostly. The movie still has it's moments though. But I never want to hear the sentence "evil dies tonight" again.

Typical Netflix Production
16 July 2021
It's a typical Netflix Production. Decent budget, nice premise, nostalgic elements. Then the reality : At the beginning it looks promising, then it falls slowly apart but goes on and on until it feels like a chore to finish it. The story is dragged out and the twist are only surprising if one is truly not the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree.

Barely average..
4 July 2021
A couple of nice moments, a few laughs and some exciting scenes. The rest of the movie feels like the script was generated by the same allgorythm which Netflix used for its last productions.

Boooring...
25 May 2021
Well it´s Zack Snyder AND a Netflix production. So I did not expect an magnificent movie. But it still was a disappointment. The heist itself was underwhelming and did not contibute anything further to the story. The story it self is very, very forseeable, so the the two and a half hours runtime felt more like 3 and a half hour. It's basically a ripoff from aliens, including dialouge and death scenes. The zombie-action felt also flat... especially compared to Snyders Remake of "Dawn of the Dead".

BUT the new evolution of zombies are now very muscular and ripped. So... I guess we have to thank Snyder for that contribution to the zombie genre... (?)

One of the worst movies...
20 May 2021
I've seen. And I've seen a lot. It is not bad in the so-bad-it's-good-way, it is just really, really bad. I wrote a whole critic why I this movie is so bad, but somehow IMDB just let it disappear.

Save some brain cells and skip this movie .

This show is absolutely horrifying...
16 April 2021
Quite uncomfortable and unsettling to watch at certain moments and I am not talking about the paranormal/spooky parts.

For me this show was far more upsetting to watch than Jordan Peeles Movies, because it had no comical moments and felt way more grounded.

I was expecting somekind of grindhouse style show and or at best a cynical satire about the horrors in a white suburbia.

But this show was way more and seemed so close to reality in certain parts it truly turned my stomach.

Tries to be different, but in a dumb way...
12 February 2021
I had not much expectations, but I still was underwhelmed by the result of this movie.

I don't know why the they kept the same title. It shares nothing with the original. The original was surprisingly entertaining. It was straight forward and bleak. Cannibal hillbillies hunting teens. Simple premise but well told and crafted.

This movie tries to hard to be clever but manages to have so many dumb moments in the story and silly decisions of the protagonists just to make the movie "work"... I lost count.

I admire the concept of a pagan tribe instead of a hillbilliy family, but this movie... it just doesn't work at all. I am tempted to spoil it, but see for it yourself.. You will expirience a whole avalanche of Wtf-moments. Or don't and watch the first original. Or go for "the ritual" or "midsommar" if you like pagan horror movies.

Well done spooky stuff!

Once again a solid production from france. It had goosebumps at certain moments, which is not happening too often. Especially the acting of Mireille Herbstmeyer as Madame Daugeron gave me the shivers! Also it's build as a mini-series, so the story is more or less over without draging it out like other usual series.

If you like slower paced, eerie stories - give it a watch!

ok

Very flawed but I dont understand the hate. It reminds me a bit on the Series Mad Dogs.

My main problem with this show is: I can not relate with the main protagonist until now. And it's not because Laura Haddock did not a good job - it´s her written character. She supposed to be a emotionally troubled but somehow righteous and tough lady. But in her search for her missing brother she is CONSTANTLY screwing up and mostly the same guy, who is in love with her, has to save her neck... just to be left by her again. Because she has a family - but then again... it's Ibiza, weeeeh!! In Mad Dogs the maincharacters where a-holes too, but at least they did not try to cover it - which made them somehow appealing and fun to me. Here the protagonist is always talking about justice but behaves like a narcissistic spoiled teen with a tendency to manipulation and nobody seems to notice that. But maybe it's the ibiza-party-way of lifestyle and i just don't get it. ;)

But on the otherside the series has a realy awesome sidecast which is keeping me on the hook and the whole mystery of the vanishing and murder(?) of the brother is quite intriguing to keeping me watching this.

Flawed, uninspired and so boring... even worse than Suicide Squad. R rating and a feministic undertone doesn´t make a good movie if the story sucks.

Hypnotic...
5 March 2020
It´s truly a bold attempt to try and adapt this novel. And I must say it works for me, I just wished they decided to turn this in a six part series, because compared to the book, the whole story feels and is really rushed. If one has read the book, one can see that everything is there. It´s just crammed all in to two hours. So the transgressions of the inhabitants from sane to mad as hell is (understandably) not understandable for most people. But even then, it´s quite the hynotic ride of a movie and I highly recommend it,

It´s one of the best weird movies of the decade. Thanks for trying and (almost) succeding.

But by far not the cineastic gem that I have expected. The story is way to formulaic to impress and its twists are therefore not very surprising. But Phoenix acting is really worth to watch it. that is it.

The Trailer spoilt the movie completely...
11 February 2019
What a bummer. I instantly regretet that I have watched the trailer first. After that I was completely able to forsee the order of the victims and their, now not so surprising, ways to get creatively killed - because almost EVERY scene whas shown in the trailer.

So the tension and thrill whas more ore less completely gone. I have to admit, that I still was entertained - the whole satire on the art business was quite well done. But the whole thing with the haunting elements and the nighmarish kill-off-scenes where quite dull and felt uninspired, compared to movies like nightmare on elm street.

4 Stars, plus one star additional for the scenes with john malkovichs and his painiting in progress.

what a letdown.
29 January 2019
Shame - i really liked the first season, i should have stopped there. but i wanted to know how it ends. so i sat the whole thing through.

well i was not worth it. it felt like they decided after episode 3 that the show had to end with episode 4. basically it ended right in the middle of the story. there are loose ends, rushed "goodbyes" and an incredible forced "pay off" scene... what a waste.

The Punisher (2017–2019)

Sorry, but no...
18 January 2019
Wow - this show whas tedious and boring. Hard for me to admit that, i liked the punisher Comics quite a bit. I absolutely loved Punishers cameo part in daredevil season 2, i even liked the second punisher movie. But the whole punisher show whas a big let down for me. The first season was allright, boring at times and I dont get it, why Punisher needed another origin story... again. But the action whas allright and the scenes between Micro and Frank where a delight to watch.

Season 2 felt really dull and uninspired. In both seasons the pattern was always the same. Frank shooting goons, grunting and screaming like a baboon in heat - oh boy, they really turned that up in season 2 - then he gets somehow shoot or stabbed and has to recover at least for the half of an Episode... While he is recovering, he has usually a bonding moment with his current compagnion(s). Then the cycle begings again.. and again, and so on. In case of season 2, the flawed Story, the pretty pale villians and the mostly uninteresting side characters could not add much more to make it less boring, sorry.

Arty Action...
18 January 2019
I seriously enjoyed this movie.

The Chemical Brothers contributed the soundtrack, that's alone worth a bonus point! The movie itself is a bold mixture between art-house and action- thriller. It has a constant weird undertone of a fairy tale - the Story of Red riding Hood comes more than once through ones mind.

The acting is really good, especially Cate Blanchett as evil cia-operative agent and her henchman, played by Tom Hollander, where a delight to watch. The camera work and the pacing is masterfully executed. There is a seemingly unedited one-shot-take in Berlin, following Eric Banas Character from a Bus Station down to a near Subway Station, where he then has to fight a couple of agents... This Scene alone is worth watching!

Sony did it again...
3 October 2018
Behind this mess of a big time producers wet dreams, one clearly feels (and sees sometimes) the potential of this movie lingering.

Seeing my childhood-hero on the big screen seemed to good to be true. Played by Tom Hardy, directed by Ruben Fleischer, made for adult viewers - I was so hyped for this movie. But at the end Mr. Avarad and Sony had the final saying, so off course they had to turn it in to a trainwreck.

Almost every scene is crammed up with forced "whacky Humor" and the narrative is as coherent as the one in "The Amazing Spiderman 2". Also felt the pacing of this movie like it whas made in the early 90ies. One does have to watch Eddie Brock stumbling around between a boring relationship and genericaly investigative journalism... for at least 40 minutes at the "Beginning" of the movie. After that, one is shortly rewarded with a couple of great scenes of interaction between Eddie and Venom... then you have to sit through the rest of the movie.

But at least the movie is PG13,... So a lot of people will see this and that is all what counts in this business today. Congrats Sony!

I liked it. Raimi at his best. Goofy, scary and over the top. It's certainly not a master piece but If you digg movies like evil Dead 2, it's definitely worth watching. But one question remains... How the hell did they get a pg13 rating for this?!?
