This Is Us: After the Fire (2020)
So annoying
Although I seem to be pretty lonely with my opinion, I am terribly annoyed with Randall at this point.
He is so self centered. He imagines what could have been if his father hadn't died and the very first thing that comes up in his mind is William. Don't get me wrong, William I liked very much, brilliant character. But what I'm getting at is, that Randall is instantly going from one father to the other. From the one he's been thinking about for sooooo long to his birth father. Like, oh well, now that Jack is safe, cast him aside and get my real Das out of the closet..... From the saving of one parent to being mad at the other one, the same one he is trying to save atm. And let's face it, he is just jealous of Kevin, because for once he is not the center of attention from his mom.
I'm so annoyed, not even 10 minutes into the episodes and I feel so..... bored.
I know, the conclusion will probably be good, Randall will work through his stuff at some piubt, but still, it's annoying to see a character that startet out so good, acting like a huge..... And also: shouldn't his "what ifs" include stuff from other family members too? Not just his? That is selfish and again: so self centered. And now I have to watch a entire episode of "what could have beens" imagined by an arrogant, jealous and whiney...... Well, better get on with it.
Vikings: Valhalla (2022)
It is not THAT bad.
Are there better shows out there? Sure.
Are there better viking themed shows out there? Yes. (The Last Kingdom sadly ends this month, watch that if you are not satisfied with Vikings Valhalla)
But it is definetley not as bad as many reviews here make it seem.
I personally was never a huge fan of Vikings and never watched it to the end. (I know, a shocking revelation.)
I always disliked Ragnar but he kept the show interesting, after his death I was out after half a season of boredom. And I doubt that I will last long with Vikings Valhalla either should it survive as long as Vikings did. But for now it was fun and entertaining. Nothing special but it was fun to watch. The acting is mediocre but not too bad. The story is just at the beginning, the next season(s) will determine if this show can become more than just popcorn entertainment.
As for all the complaints about historical correctness: Name just 3 shows that are historically correct, perfectly correct, and entertaining as well as successful.
I'm waiting....
Yes the show has flaws, big ones. But this show doesn't aim to teach history, it wants to entertain, which it does, most of the time.
And after seeing the first pictures of "The rings of power" I think I just accepted that Hollywood has gone nuts. Anyone complaining about a black, female Viking: Amazon gives us a black, beard-less female dwarf: discuss.........
Not to mention the elves......
Or Galadriel, who looks like a cheap Live Action Copy of Arturia from Fate: Zero / Stay Night....
Not to mention, that this piece of nonsense won't be "historical" correct either, as the story won't have anything in common with Tolkiens version of "Middleearth history".
Damn, and now I am rambling on about The Rings of Power.....
So, IMHO Vikings Valhalla has its problems, but compared to other crazy stuff coming our way, I think it might turn out to become one of the few bearable shows left out there.
WandaVision (2021)
What's up with those ratings?
What is going on?
First of all: how can you give a overall review for a show, that has only aired 2 episodes yet? Those giving low ratings should give the show a chance before deciding its bad way too early.
To those who give high ratings, you should also wait and see, how you think about it once you've got the whole picture.
If you want to rate what's been aired so far, go and rate the episode itself.
Now, about the show and those who think it's bad, just because it's different.
Well, those 2 episodes didn't have much action. They were very different to what we are used to, when thinking about the MCU.
But does that mean it's bad?
Someone even wrote, it's worse than DC. Wtf?!
Just because something is different and not the usual stuff you are used to, and because something isn't hitting you in the face with glamorous CGI and breathtaking action sequences that don't require the audience to think doesn't mean it's bad. (Don't get me wrong here, I'm not necessarily against the above mentioned)
But all of you, who just want to watch a show with your mouths hanging wide open because of the latest special effects while not having to think at all...... well this isn't for you.
This show is glamorous, and clever and is has so much going on in between the lines.
If you watch closely you'll spot so many well hidden hints about what's going on. You can see how much work and thought went into every little detail.
And, well yes, the humor is totally over the top and yet still perfect. These 2 episodes managed to amuse me and freak me out at the same time. Wanda and Vision are delightful together, and while I was amused, at the same time I got goosebumps because of whatever is going on there behind the curtain, so to speak.
And the end credits. Marvel credits are always special, and so is this one. It's like the show itself. Atmospheric, shiny and yet creepy. Something glamorous and classy, hiding a dark secret yet to be uncovered.
I loved those 2 episodes and if the rest of the show can keep that level, it's going to be perfect.
