Vikings: Valhalla (2022)
Awesome with some disappointments (Two seasons))
Two seasons in, the show is overall great and closest to how I would design a show like this myself.
Starting with the downsides, there are parts where the show cannot communicate with the audience. Most people won't realize this but there are moments where they just didn't think through the micro-script well enough. In their defense, as I said it's only going to be realized by avid movie critics, and not the average watcher of the show, this means they did a good job preventing it to be obvious.
On a neutral note, there are "filler" scenes, the show is going fast enough but not ideal as they obviously needed to add some scenes that add no quality to the show itself. Though I'm going to take it, as it's still very much above the industry standard. I feel bad for writing this part but still we need to eliminate the "stretching" from the productions completely if we're gonna have really good ones. This, among with the relatively slow pace among the first episodes makes people leave watching this show.
Now there are aspects of the show which I really like, but not consistently delivered in the show. First off, the fact that they portray cultures not black and white, but of complexity makes it way more enjoyable to watch.
There are expections to this, such as pechenegs in season 2. Honeslty I dislike how the pechenegs are portrayed. Historically I don't think they were any more barbaric than vikings themselves, yet the show for some reason went for great lengths to portray them as such. One crazy barbaric tribe leader is fine but framing all pechenegs (except one) at the extreme delivers a bit of unrealisticness. Which brings me to the second point, overall the show makes a great job as making sure it stays believable, but there are other bits that are a little too unrealistic for my liking. Like the pace of the show, this also is not perfect yet overall above the standard so enough to get a pass from me.
Speaking of realisticness, one of the best things about the show is how realistically constructed the warfare is throughout it. The plans in the war campaign and tactical involvement of characters is inspiring. The way the characters are heroized is kept believable, and that's usually very hard to pull off. They did a really good job about that.
Another thing I must mention is the character design. The acting is overall good, and it contributes to the show. Especially Queen Emma, King Canute, Godwin, Harald, Olaf and Edmund are are my favorite, in terms of their design. I also really liked seeing people from different parts of the world integrated so seemlessly. Such as the Elena, Kurya, Mariam. The pecheneg leader had a pretty huge potential to be a great character too, it would add a lot of quality if such a charismatic character was much more than a dumb villain and had an actual personality. The byzantine empire (so far?) was underwhelming too, I hope we see more of him as well as people from other parts of the world.
Gibi: Bilanço (2022)
First good episode of this season so far
With all the episodes of the season being sub-par at best, show was desperately in need of some actually good episodes. This episode was ingeniously crafted with some good jokes and situational comedy.
The only part that could be better was the second half of the episode, where I can tell they ran out of ideas at some point and it lead to some clumsy actions that aren't funny at all. They don't disturb the flow too much and can be excused with the "absurd comedy" characteristics of the show.
That being said, very few episodes in all the seasons so far had come close to the level of this episode.
Arcane: League of Legends (2021)
Exceeded my expectations(Episodes 1-3)
I've played league for a considerable amount of time but haven't been playing for the last few years. I've always thought a well made movie of the universe would break records, but they were too late to do it by the time the Arcane was announced. Still, I appreciated this late but welcome effort.
For some reason, everything I saw before watching made me think that it will suck. The animation style looked horrible, storyline seemed extremely boring. Target audience seemed to be kids, and it honestly seemed like a series that only will appeal to the die-hard fans of the game, whom would watch the series no matter how good or bad it was. This was what I thought UNTIL I actually gave the series a chance and watch it.
Boy, they really nailed it. Animations were well polished and really good. You really feel the athmosphere in the universe. Storytelling couldn't be any better. I'm so proud of these guys. I really hope they continue making a good job in the upcoming episodes.
I'm so glad that I didn't say "I would have made it better If I did it" about the series, and I usually say that about what I watch, at least about some aspects. But I know how hard this job was to pull off and they made an incredible job.
Karakomik Filmler: Kaçamak (2019)
Good in a lot of ways
At first movie was going very enjoyable, then it became dud when things started to feel too unrealistic. Even on the unrealistic end, movie wasn't a very bad sci-fi parody itself, though it was still very hard to really like the film because of the ending. It was too unsatisfactory.
By the way, for some reason I liked the products replacements, I always do and this one was well made. I googled that refrigerator and loved it. It does not disturb the flow of the film or anything, I would add it on the plus side.
Ibi (2015)
Educative, instructive and imaginative
First off, it doesn't have anything to do with adventure time or regular show, show isn't even remotely similar to any shows like that, maybe except drawing style.
As an adult, watching this with a 7 year old has been a good experience for both of us. With the cute animations and loveable characters who are good role models, show does an amazing job not being boring while being educative. Really good for kids.
