The New Mutants (2020)
Good movie, don't believe the bad reviews!!!
No idea why ppl are being so harsh on this movie... :-S
True, it's a bit different than the X-Men movies, a bit more towards drama and fantasy perhaps, but it's not a bad movie at all!
Don't believe the negative reviews and just go watch this movie for yourself ;-)
The Mandalorian (2019)
DO NOT DESPAIR , STAR WARS ISN'T DEAD YET, THERE'S STILL HOPE!!!!
And everything that's wrong with the last 2 Star Wars movies... is totally right with this series!!! :-D
Seriously, if they can make a series like this, then what are they doing totally ruining those films? :-S
This series actually has a decent plot and takes the time for story and character development!! The action is most definitely there, but it's not pointless and there are actual quiet and emotional moments as well.
I'd definitely recommend this series to anybody, so just forget about that last film trilogy and watch The Mandalorian with an open mind, cause you won't be disappointed! ;-)
Assimilate (2019)
Great film!!! low rating for no reason
This is actually a great film!!! So I have no idea why the rating is so low on here and why some people have given this a 1 out of 10, this is most definitely a 7!
It's a suspenseful film with unexpected twists and the acting's good, so what's the problem with this film then?
Apparently this film reminds some people of another, similar film. So what? You gotta get your inspiration somewhere, that doesn't make this a bad film.
And I liked the open ending, I'm hoping they'll make a sequel ;-)
Game of Thrones: The Iron Throne (2019)
1st part MAYBE, 2nd part NO!!! why doesn't Jon step up?!!!
A 5 for the first half of this episode. The makers of GoT did a pretty good job of screwing up the whole game plan here, BUT they have allowed themselves the possibility to fix all of that by making a sequel. The events in A Song of Ice and Fire have come full circle: we're back at the start with a lone Targaryen banished to a strange land with a strange people but with the potential to be chosen as a leader of those strange people AND with the potential friendship of a powerful dragon. Who knows, there might even be more than one dragon still out there for him to befriend. All we need now is for a new enemy, another power-hungry noble family like the Lannisters, to make an appearance and create the necessity for Jon to return to the Six Kingdoms in order to save it from ruin. Hence the 5 out of 10.
Many of my predictions actually came true. Daenerys' plan indeed was to break the wheel by burning it, to burn the existing world in order to create a new one from the ashes. The only thing wrong with that plan? There's only so much you can rebuild when you burn EVERYTHING, someone just had to put some effort into trying to point this out to Dany! She still had the best of intentions, she hadn't gone completely mad! But obviously some men just don't know how to speak to women, so instead of speaking to them, they either quit their job as hand or they kill them in spite of claiming to love them.
OK, well, murdering Dany was not only an immortal but also a risky move. But there is a certain logic to that strategy for Jon, and it doesn't necessarily interfere too much with the basic plot. Now that Dany has been taken out of the picture because of her overly violent ways (that are forming a problem in peace times), Jon can take over and continue in her name. But does he? No!
The first obstacle to that problem is of course Drogon. It would make sense for him to kill the person who killed his mum. But he turns out to be either unaware of who the real culprit was, or intelligent enough to grasp the real reason why she died: the fight over that bloody metal chair. Gone it is! Nice symbolism in that move. OK, Jon, mount the dragon and preach an interesting story to the survivors now! Especially the army of Unsullied and Dothraki. But does he? No!
Against all odds the Unsullied can be convinced to spare Tyrion and the surviving nobles and other powerful people sit together to choose a new king or queen. Because now that Dany is dead, surely there are really no more suitable candidates left? Sansa and Arya of course know better. For there is the perfect candidate for the job just sitting in a jail cell and as it so happens it's the very half-brother whose life they need a desperate excuse to save. But what do they do? Nothing! They don't say anything and allow another new king to be chosen: Bran. Where does this come from? No idea, I'm guessing Tyrion just went with whoever he thought wasn't too power-hungry and also inclined to spare both him and Jon. And instead of Bran the Builder of course this time they go with Bran the Broken. Nice touch, just the man to rebuild all of King's Landing...
Then Jon's life is actually spared and his half-brother who doesn't really want to be king sits on the... well, in the wheelchair cause there is no more Iron Throne. But they continue with the kings though, there goes all the logic of the symbolic act of melting the Iron Throne. Only this new king is better than the rest because 1) a handful of nobles picked him on a whim 2) he doesn't want to be king 3) he can't have children. Gee, where did we hear all of those things before?
Robert Baratheon never wanted to be king and was chosen by the Lannisters and the other nobles. And even if he could have children, he sure as hell never managed to obtain any legitimate heirs cause he never bothered visiting his wife's bedchambers, leaving that to her brother instead.
Daenerys then? She was chosen as a leader practically by any people she ever encountered, surely her claim is not only supported by a handful of nobles. Maybe she wants to be queen but she wants that power in order to break the wheel of oppression. She can't have children. But yeah, she's dead. So then the next best thing would be Jon. He doesn't want to be king. He gets chosen as a leader by the Night's Watch and to a certain extent the Wildlings, in a similar fashion to how Dany was chosen by the Dothraki and the freed slaves. The only down-side with him then is that he can have children. Doesn't mean that he will though. Because let's be honest: who could ever meet his expectations after he had to kill Dany? I'm guessing romance and fathering children isn't the first thing on his mind, at least not in the foreseeable future.
So of course they choose Bran...
I had no idea he even had any sort of claim, either through blood or through leadership abilities. Cause when did he ever display any qualities as a leader? That's right, never. He's the boy who sits quietly brooding in the corner and doesn't want anything to do with anything. He was the perfect candidate for the job of Maester, not King! But of course Sam already got that job, so it was taken. Three-Eyed Raven in and of itself is not enough of a job apparently, yet he didn't want to be Lord of Winterfell cause he was too busy being Three-Eyed Raven. But now he does want the job of King of not one but Six Kingdoms? To me that just makes no sense... I think Tyrion hit his head while moving those rocks around looking for Jaime and Cersei.
So basically all Daenerys has ever done has only achieved overthrowing the Lannisters, at the cost of burning all of King's Landing and her own life. Then Jon gets not one (the Red Woman brings him back to life), not two (Drogon doesn't turn on him), but three (Grey Worm can be convinced to spare him) chances to finally step up and take action. He's the one and only true heir now, the last Targaryen. Ironically he even has the same name as the very first Targaryen to rule the Seven Kingdoms. He also got some new blood from the Starks to counteract the madness caused by inbreeding, cause he wouldn't have burned down King's Landing for example. He's the only one Drogon, the last dragon, still considers a friend or relative. All hopes are now focussed on Jon... So what does he do? He meekly rides off to a far-away land somewhere beyond the Wall where he can then do... What? Wait for death? Cause he really hasn't been doing enough of that? Destiny keeps on saving him, cause unlike him and the other characters it knows that he was meant to be King, so he can't die!
Jon is just so passive for someone with all that destiny sticking to him! He allows everyone else to make the big decisions, he allows himself to be murdered, all in all we get the feeling that he constantly feels hopeless to change anything he sees happening around him, even if he would like to and is real quick to follow the orders of others even if they completely go against everything he personally believes (it only takes one suggestion of a hand on death row for him to turn on Dany after a conversation of about 3 sentences that apparently makes it clear to him that he will never be able to temper her fire, and of course the very idea of making himself King through marriage to the woman he loves never enters his head). But he's supposed to be the one true King, the Arthur of this story! My only hope is that like Arthur, he might return... Although there sure aren't any such predictions made at the end of that final episode.
So in the end it's all up to you, author of the books and makers of the television series, to decide whether this is gonna be another truly GREAT series with a LAME ending that basically ruins the whole build-up... or if this is going to continue and be redeemed through Jon's future actions! Jon has the potential to be the next Daenerys, if only he could man up a little bit and actually do something for a change. ;-)
Suggestion of a future plot along the lines of the first one:
Soon the Wildlings will declare Jon King Beyond the Wall, and who knows who else he might encounter on his future travels now that the threat of the White Walkers has been taken out, for all we know he might be able to rally a whole army from beyond the walls of the Seven Kingdoms. In the mean time there's plenty of time for a new villain to make an appearance at King's Landing and take the throne from Bran. Then possibly Jon could end up in one or other difficult situation fighting new enemies beyond the wall in his quest for an army (knowingly or not), at which his old friend Drogon shows up to rescue him, taking him on a ride to a far-away land where he can encounter yet another people who can end up following him. Fortunately for Jon, he also has quite a few friends left in the Seven Kingdoms, with his brother as King of the Six Kingdoms and his sister as Queen in the North. Who knows, maybe even Arya can help him, there's no telling what great advantages or new friends she might make overseas after all. Maybe she could even find Drogon a girlfriend to breed with, a possibility that was never presented to Dany. Yes, I see the potential for a great future there... So there's still hope! ;-)
Game of Thrones: The Bells (2019)
WHAT THE ...... !!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-O
What in the Seven's name has happened to this series?!!! :-O
I'm at a total loss here, I've no idea who is who anymore, or what's going on and why... WHY? That's like the question that keeps coming back to me after watching the fiasco in King's Landing unfold in this episode...
WHY didn't they in any way plan some kind of strategy for what's at the very least the second greatest and most important battle for Dany and followers? :-S They never even discussed anything, Dany was simply like: we'll attack tomorrow. And then she flies off on the dragon without any means of communication with the rest of the army and without any prior plan? :-S Why did she even bother with the army then? She could've just flown over there by herself on her dragon and taken care of it, with the methods she was using...
And WHY go through all that trouble to get back King's Landing, the Red Keep and the Iron Throne... only to burn it all to hell!!! Like I don't think that throne even stands anymore, it's probably melted to bits, and then there's like the WHOLE castle built by generations of TARGARYENS that's now all DESTROYED... cause Cersei happened to be in there? :-O
Dude, if I find a burglar living in my house, I might want him out of it, but I sure as hell wouldn't burn down my own house! Especially after the burglar surrendered...
Even since the previous episode I've been like: you want Cersei dead? Well, she's right there! Too bad I don't have a dragon to fly over there and burn her in one breath... but wait, I DO HAVE A DRAGON! So I don't HAVE to murder my way through thousands of soldiers and civilians alike... cause I can just fly my dragon right over there and kill the one I'm actually after!
I mean, we see groups of women carrying small children fleeing here, getting burned by Dany, breaker of chains, bringer of peace? :-O Doesn't this go against everything she stands for? How is she proving herself to be better than Cersei? This makes her worse! Admittedly, Cersei's pretty stupid for daring a Targaryen with a dragon like that, but really? All the civilians have to die too? I don't get it... I just don't, sorry... :-S
And the worst bit of all: I think she probably burned almost everybody EXCEPT Cersei, cause she died after a bunch of rocks fell on top of her... My oh my what a fitting end for a tyrant... Even Cersei deserved some more respect than that.
Also: there's no way she can actually see WHO she's burning from up there while operating in this completely random manner!!! How does she know JON's not down there somewhere?! Or his sister Arya... although of course Dany doesn't know Arya's there as she's acting alone and more or less undercover.
Jon bravely and righteously takes it unto himself to put a halt to some of the soldiers' uncalled for behaviour, Stark style... But it's kind of hard to do that with someone who's on a dragon when yours died. Drogon surviving gives Dany a definite edge over Jon.
And all the while this is going on WE NEVER GET TO SEE DANY'S FACE ANYMORE!!! So we can't see any explanation at all for what's happening... What, is she doing this to spite Cersei? Is she doing it to scare her or try to lure her out? Is she doing it cause she just went completely insane when it was revealed she couldn't rightfully get the fight she'd been craving? Is Dany still on that dragon? Maybe she's lost control of Drogon or fell off somewhere along the way, and the dragon just kept going?
OK, I'm giving this one more chance because it's Game of Thrones. But I want some serious explaining in the next episode!!! And I reckon the few survivors, especially Jon, want that too!!!!
I'm giving this a 7 due to special effects, horror + drama, and the characterisation of everybody except Dany. But usually I'd give a GoT episode a 9 and occassionally a 10 so...
Seriously, this kind of ruined the series for me, there's gonna have to be one hell of a come-back after this...
Alien Raiders (2008)
Suspenseful scifi thriller!
Don't believe the bad reviews, this is actually a pretty good film!
You don't get an awful lot of explanation about what's going on at first but in the end you get enough information to understand the actions of the characters. Not fully comprehending what's going on in the beginning of the film actually piqued my curiosity as a viewer, so I'd say it's actually a positive thing you don't get all the info at once. If not for the rather obvious title, you could really believe this film to be in a different genre at first. It's a pity that they didn't choose a title that was less obvious.
It's not an in-depth character exploration film, but the characters we get are actually portrayed well. Although they're rather stereotypical, you do get to know them a bit better throughout the film. I don't know why some reviewers say the acting was bad, I actually thought it was very good! I really felt like there was genuine emotion in those characters.
Probably one of the best aspects of this film is the suspense! The film really has you jumping from your seat several times and the tense atmosphere makes for an interesting clash with the everyday supermarket setting with the Christmas decorations. Also there's a nice contrast between the brightly lit store area and the dark back-office and meat-locker areas, but really the safety that the well-lit everyday store promises is soon revealed to be just an illusion.
AND there's an "unexpected" twist at the end, but to be honest I saw it coming. Not because it was obvious but because you do get some hints throughout the film, though really they're only small things so I'm not sure if it's that obvious to everyone from the start.
All in all a very decent science fiction thriller film, if you can make do with the normal, everyday scenery. It's not the type of scifi film where you get alien ships or distant planets, it just takes place on Earth. But I'd really rather watch a good, suspenseful scifi thriller in this setting than an action movie packed with too many superheroes/aliens and too many things left completely unexplained...
Another good thing about this film: there's not too much going on at the same time and there aren't too many plot twists. There is basically just one big revelation and one unexpected twist at the end, so it's not a confusing film to watch or a film with too many unlikely facts or events. After watching a great deal of more recent scifi films with a nice façade of action, costumes and special effects but no actual plot or character development that's worth your while, this was actually refreshing to watch! So don't let the bad reviews put you off!
Lake Placid: Legacy (2018)
definitely watchable, not as bad as they say!!!
OK, people are just so critical when reviewing movies these days! :S I didn't think this movie was that terrible! I definitely enjoyed watching it, as far as croc movies go this isn't bad at all!
Also many of these comments are not justified. You DO get to see the croc up close (like way closer than the characters would've liked), you're just left to guess a bit during the first attack in the water, but that only serves to add to the suspense. The acting's good, the croc doesn't look fake and the scenery's convincing. Perhaps the scientific background info isn't all that solid (they do try to offer some explanation but it isn't very detailed), but then again who cares in this kind of movie?
This movie definitely had me on the edge of my seat on several occassions and it seriously growsed me out! And I just LOVED the unexpected twist at the end, although if you pay close attention you could have guessed it. So it's a pretty decent monster thriller! this movie is much better!
Burning Bright (2010)
super suspenseful thriller!!!
This movie turned out to be unexpectedly excellent!!! I was expecting a random thriller about a bunch of kids being attacked by wild animals, but this was much more than that!
It was very suspenseful and scary all the way through, really demonstrating how truly frightening such an animal can be out of its cage! It takes place in and around the house, an at times claustrophobic setting but the characters also know how to use it to their advantage.
Also demonstrates the many difficulties of dealing with people that have autism while at the same time showing how a family member's love and determination can make anything possible.
But the best part of the film is in fact the ending, which is entirely unexpected and demonstrates a hard truth about humanity...
So I'd advise everyone who likes a good suspense thriller to watch this film! It got me all excited and crying out loud when something scary happened, so it really gets to you as a viewer :D
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012)
Lotr is back and better than ever!!!
This was truly one of the best films I've ever seen!!! I could watch this 3 times in a row, for real, it never bores! Definitely just as good as the Lotr series, if not better! Some people might have a preference for this film, as it emphasizes humour and adventure rather than warfare, although it already has references to the "rising darkness" that we know from lotr. It actually reminds me of the atmosphere in The Fellowship, perhaps it's the similarity of some characters or the sense of excitement and adventure, I'm not sure...
From the very start of this film I thought "yes! Tolkien's back on the screen all right!!!", went to see this at the movie theatre and I got truly ecstatic, this is one of these films people get truly addicted to :D Even if you're not usually into the fantasy genre it's something everyone should watch, it's also a very nice film to watch as a family, it has many interesting elements, not just stunning fantasy special effects but also very good humour and deep-going character development.
I love what they've done with the story, although Tolkien's novel is somewhat childish and wasn't meant to be nearly as serious or as extensive a story as Lotr, the film makers have turned it into a Lotr- worthy masterpiece!:D
So you don't need to worry about this being a watered down version of Lotr made for commercial purposes, it's not! This is just as good - if not better - than the Lotr films and is definitely a must see for all!!!:D
Jurassic World (2015)
Jurassic Park all over again yet different!
Yep, they went and made the same mistake ALL over again, in a good way ;)
It's basically Jurassic Park with a healthy dose of modern reality and futurism thrown into it. I love it!!!
Of course I will always prefer the first movie of this series to any other, but this is a very worthy successor. Despite being similar to Jurassic Park to the point of nostalgia, the movie has its very own feel, yet we all recognise that same "jurassic" feeling that runs through all of the films of this amazing series :D
At first I wasn't too sure about the characters, because only one of them was actually the "adventurer" type, however we must recall that in the first film there were also a couple of very non-adventure-type characters, and that was what made the mix on the social scene so very interesting. Jurassic World possibly even increases this effect, with me as a viewer beginning to wonder when all the "jurassic action" is going to start taking place, it just all seems so secure, the way people are living their lives and worrying about the most trivial of things, thinking themselves so important and in control... and then of course all hell breaks loose, as it always does when the dinosaurs get out of their cages ;) Illusionary bubble of control and superiority gets thrown right out the window!
I like how they've also shown a glimpse of the future of theme parks, with very futuristic-style scenery that make for a very nice contrast with the wildness of the actual island :) It also involves the theme of genetic manipulation, which notably was already present in Jurassic Park but got pushed to the sidelines in the other 2 sequels, but this film just takes up that concept again and does something entirely new and even more frightening with it!
I very much like how this film actually uses the velociraptors, whose intelligence actually played a much bigger part in the original novel than it did in the original film, to their full potential! Cause what's truly scary is not just anything that's big and has sharp teeth, but the intelligence of the beast is also a very important factor... That's why you've always felt a raptor is scarier than a T-rex ;)
I was expecting a bit of a rip-off, but I got an original reinterpretation of the first film, using the same old stuff we loved in that first film yet doing something new and interesting with it at the same time!!! Anyone who loved Jurassic Park should definitely see this!:D And anyone who thinks dinosaur films are old fashioned, should watch this first and then reconsider ;)
The Frontier (2015)
very good 70s style crime thriller!!!
I think this was actually a very good film! I wasn't expecting much, but it's one of those films that don't appear to have a promising plot at first, but then it grows on you through the good acting and the steadily increasing suspense!
I just love the way Laine evolves as a character, or rather how we as viewers change the way we see her as the movie goes on... Very fine piece of characterization!
Some crime thriller taking place in a run-down motel off some desert road doesn't sound like a big deal, but this IS a very good suspense thriller, with a lot of unexpected plot twists! It had me at the edge of my seat for most of the second half. It's not the setting or even the events themselves that make for a GREAT film, it's the way they get to us as viewers, and this film really got to me :)
So I'd recommend this film to all lovers of suspenseful, unexpected thrillers :D
