Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (2022)
Don't know how this could be better!
Kudos and props to the writers and cast for this incredible series. The characters are well acted, the story lines are consistent, familiar and authentic to the Orig. Star Trek how could you ask for more. There is an definite and very refreshing lack of "wokeness" seen in other Star Trek derivatives (thank you). Please keep it coming.
Redeeming Love (2022)
Amazingly good.
How refreshing to have a great story , which not included great sadness, but great joy as well. The character Michael Hosea with his unyielding love for Sara (Angel) was terrific. Seeing the plight of women in the mid 17th century was show accurately, acting was authentic and good. A well done period piece.
1883: Boring the Devil (2022)
Quickly becoming one of the best westerns EVER.
I think the depictions of custom, interaction, courtesy's and emotion displayed are VERY accurate for the period. The locations, props, settings items used are authentic. This episode dealt with the emotions of the characters and the small kindness exhibited (so lacking in today's society) were truly moving.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
"HAD" high hopes for this series but have been severely disapointed
There are many interesting plots , twist that could have been turned into a REALLY good ScFi series ---- but no 60% of the screen time is sappy, child like emotional conversations all with the usual current social agenda topics. It is not say as bad a Supergirl got but their trying. These characters seem to have NO emotional maturity or realistic reactions.
1883 (2021)
One of the most well done Westerns ever.
The depiction of life, the charters, attitudes are very accurate. The cast is excellent ( Sam Elliot is off the scale) and adds tremendously to this epic as he has done to many other Western generas over the years. The life and hardships experienced cannot be understated about those settlers that made the adventure across this country and it is pictured well here.
Chance (2016)
Dark, riveting and terrific acting and characters
It's hard to believe Hulu did not choose to continue this series. It is very well done with great story line and VERY interesting characters. Hugh Laurie is of course extremely good. Special props must go to the Daughter and "D" who lifted their parts ever to so high levels. This sort of Noir, detective series with lots of twist is truly great TV work.
The Exorcist (1973)
Still great after all these years!
Arguably the greatest horror/scary film ever made is still a Halloween favorite. The characters are well done and well acted. Special effects were startling and great . Story line was consistent with with church documents adding to the authenticity.
The Handmaid's Tale (2017)
Good, but some interesting omissions and directions.
Make no mistake I like this series , however although there are many references to modern elements but NO mention from any of the characters of the word slavery, Nazi or Islam. This series puts everything in Gilead squarely on Christianity yet there is nothing close to this in reality and actual examples in fundamentalist theocratic government's today as well as Slavery in other parts of the world where it is still practiced --- NOT in the US and again by any Christian sects.
The Alienist (2018)
Outstanding period drama
Absolutely loved this drama, it is a period piece (19th century) detective drama with elements of a Sherlock Holmes mystery. The Characters are realistic and well acted, plot gripping and attention to detail both in setting and dialog are very authentic making this a must watch for any period work , murder mystery/drama fan.
The Old Guard (2020)
Loved it. Finally a semi SciFi action with an actual story.
Really , really like this. Story was well done, not too many twist interesting characters, with Theron doing a great job with her part "Andy". With the ending as it is, it demands a Sequel. It was not chocked full of nothing but action as there was some actual dialogue. So yes a good find for today.
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
Very Authentic to the series
I find this series as good as it gets. The attention to details of the past is VERY good with just enough "new" both in tech and people to bridge the 15 years since Picard had retired and of course the cameo appearances from both Next Gen and Voyager to make it a plausible scenario. Oh yes, and I love the theme music it is fantastic.
Supergirl: Stand and Deliver (2019)
JUST when you thought it couldn't get more political!
After watching earlier seasons you figured out that well perhaps they (writers) have gotten it out of their system, but NO it's heavier than ever. With this episode apparently showing full sympathy for "illegal" aliens and amnesty for them. There is a half heart'ed attempt to portray both sides as having villains so were not dealing with much in the way of SciFi but putting out political agenda.
Above the Shadows (2019)
Highly underrated film, refreshingly different.
Using the Sci-Fi premise of her not being seen was just a vehicle for this movie. The acting was good, the human element off the scale and the feeling potent and heartwarming. A nice change, I will recommend it.
Riverdale: Chapter Forty-Seven: Bizarrodale (2019)
Dipping into social issues unnecessarily
I really hope this series does not follow the lead of Super girl which has followed every social justice issue known to man. This is really the first episode to do so I will continue to watch as the basics are still good.
Ladies in Black (2018)
Nice to see a movie like this made today!
Did not believe they would make something like this today, no language, no violence, no fake computerized stuff! This can transport you back to a much simpler time. It is a slice of life feature with very good attention to detail that will take you back in time without breaking your eardrums with continuous explosions or violence and language, well done.
Supergirl (2015)
Just when I thought there were no more social justice issues to cover---
SE04 Ep02 -Where is the Supergirl SciFi?? What does the entrance of a Blatant female gender girl ( actress Nicole Maines) presenting as "Trans"?? I thought they had covered every social justice issue under the sun! No more for me this is ridiculous. Forgetting for just a moment the social justice angles in EVERY episode and just looking for some authentic , actual SciFi . Supergirl was virtually as strong as superman and "invulnerable" yet many times she is nearly overwhelmed by much lesser aliens or is damaged by weapons or too slow to stop something yet she is supposed to be as fast as The Flash. These writers need to actually read some of the comics and leave out the SJ stuff.
Versailles (2015)
Excellent well done series.
Even though the all the events may not be to the letter of history book (what historical drama is) it is well done with great acting and believable characters. I was particularly pleased to see the two arguably most intelligent characters get together referring to Chief Inspector Marchel and the Doctor Claudine. Small details are accurate in tools, devices etc that are used throughout the series.
Supergirl: American Alien (2018)
Political liberal Social justice agenda's are pushed hard.
Very disappointing that the writers Continue to push social justice issues instead of sticking to what could be a very good SciFi series. This week it was debate on "hate" crimes and Immigration. This is getting very tiresome and distracting. Super girl"s abilities are still under performed in that Super Girl and Super Man had vastly more power , strength and invulnerability than any shown in this series.
Supergirl: Not Kansas (2018)
EVERY liberal agenda now covered in Supergirl.
I originally watched to see SciFi and the comic book brought to life. Supergirl is quickly becoming less and less of either. Now they have anti Gun covered with the Faux outrage of several of the characters. I can at least say they did have SOME characters offering mild defense of gun ownership. Please stick to SciFI and the REAL Supergirl story.
Supergirl: Far from the Tree (2017)
This series is getting to political for entertainment
I tune in to watch SCIFI not political engineering or correctness. The writers are pushing social agenda's as hard as possible. They pushed on Ultra pro Immigration without of course the discussion of Legal vs. Illegal, gay lifestyle and people's acceptance, or lack thereof. I am surprised that they did not have John Jhonz (a "GREEN") Martian refer to the "WHITE" Martians as plantation owners or privileged. Maggie's discussion with her father they should have had him refer to the people he had worked with as "white Christians" JUST to pull it all together. Completely off the rails the writers of this series are.
The Flash (2014)
Entire cast is emotional weaklings.
Overall I like the series. The biggest element I see is all the characters are complete emotional weaklings. Interaction between Iris and Barry is like 12 yr. Old's in grade school. The physics behind THE FLASH are completely impossible and they make NO effort to make any of it work. I understand this complete fantasy but it would be better with more realistic charters and SOME plausible physics involved.
