Love at First Glance (2017)
Best Hallmark Movie Ever!
This movie was beautiful, and the best Hallmark romance they've ever made!!!
It was real, with true, messy feelings, including many sad ones (so it's not just a happy romance).
The connection between the characters is created over a much longer period than normal, which is really nice (and much more realistic). Initially simply a casual meeting becomes something akin to friendship, which in turn blossoms into flirting.
Mary finds herself, by learning about James' life.
There are a few small flashbacks, shown from the point of view of the characters in James' life. This is well done and kept to a minimum.
I cried at the ending.
Sex/Life (2021)
A sexy suburban train wreck of a show
I really like Sarah Shahi, so felt I should at least try to watch this show, despite some of the dismal reviews.
Sarah plays Billie, a mother of two young children, living in a very large house in the suburbs with her husband. The older child is just starting pre-school, and the younger child is still a baby who is breastfeeding. Billie has no life outside of being a mother 24/7, and is likely suffering from some depression.
Billie's husband, Cooper, is played by Mike Vogel. He always seems super excited and happy to see his kids, and only seems to notice that his wife exists as a caretaker of the children.
Neither Billie nor Cooper to each other honestly. Cooper even reads his wife's diary, repeatedly, then has violent sex with her, then ignores her, then tries to recreate a fantasy date from her past.
Billie's BFF Sasha is played by Margaret Odette. There are lots of flashbacks to how the two of them behaved in their 20s, and mostly it seems they slept with different random guys every weekend. There doesn't seem to be any mention or concern about STDs or birth control, and many of these sexual encounters occur when they are drunk and cannot give proper consent. Now Sasha is a university professor, but still engages in lots of casual sex.
Billie is sad in her day-to-day life of motherhood, and keeps dreaming of her bad boy ex Brad, played by Adam Demos (who was great in Falling Inn Love). Brad was always bad news, and is still the same horrible person. He won't take no for an answer, and repeatedly goes after women who do not want him in their lives. He is now sleeping with Sasha, Billie's BFF, and videotaped Sasha and him having sex, and let Billie watch this.
Brad did NOT get Sasha's consent before he videotaped them, which is a crime. When Sasha finds out that Brad filmed them, she doesn't seem at all concerned, which is just absolutely bizarre. The show doesn't even mention that what Brad did is against the law!
Cooper is feeling very insecure and inadequate in his marriage, and starts stalking Brad. Cooper's feelings of inadequacy increase when he see Brad's manhood while showering at the gym. Cooper starts missing work, and then explains to his work friend that he's been reading his wife's sex diary.
The show and the characters really start to go off the rails at this point, with Billie communicating with Brad (even though she's told him to go away), Brad repeatedly contacting Billie (to the point of stalking), Cooper and his female boss flirting extensively (with her inviting him for a nightcap), Sasha telling Billie not to contact Brad because he's a horrible person (but Sasha continues to sleep with him), ... and now Billie & Cooper are going to go out to dinner with Sasha & Brad... can you say BAD IDEA?!!!
Zero Chill (2021)
The family moved AWAY from CANADA for hockey???
The premise of the show makes absolutely no sense. An entire family moved AWAY from CANADA, so that the teen boy could play hockey. Do the Writers and Producers not understand that Canada has LOTS of opportunity for hockey players? Many, many NHL players come from Canada!
Normally I love watching skating, and I'm a fan of meet-cute & teen romance, but it's taken me a full week to finish the first episode, and I doubt I'll bother finishing the series.
I really miss "Spinning Out" which was another Netflix skating show, and was excellent!!
The American Mall (2008)
Not worth watching
Normally I love musicals, but this movie has no spark. The songs are lacklustre and the emotions contrived. Nina Dobrev's singing voice was poorly dubbed over, so not only is it not her singing, but the lips and vocals often don't match.
Watching Autumn Reeser play the villain is the only fun thing (she's the only reason I gave it 2 stars), but no one even stands up to her bully behaviour.
Love, Guaranteed (2020)
Great Little Rom-Com!
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie! The comedic timing of all characters was great, including Nick (Damon Wayans Jr.), Susan (Rachel Leigh Cook), and Susan's 2 office staff.
While it was obvious that Nick and Susan would likely end up together, it felt very realistic, just a little at a time, and not at all contrived.
The CEO of the company Love Guaranteed and her lawyer were perfectly swarmy and easy to dislike.
I did feel that the company Love Guaranteed should have been found guilty of portraying lies, since the couple on their posters were models instead of a couple who had met on the website. In addition, Nick went on 1,000 dates and did not find love until AFTER the 1000 dates, so he should have won his court case.
Nonetheless, Nick and Susan end up together happily, and there ends up being money for the children's portion of the hospital, so that's a win-win.
