One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975)
Jack N delivering another powerful performance!
This movie was on my watchlist for a decade and I finally got a chance to watch it this weekend.
Playing the role of a criminal who had convinced the judge of his mental illness, is sent to an institute to verify if he was indeed mental or not, Jack N does an outstanding job! His laugh is more powerful and dangerous than most such films combined. He is terrific and so is the rest of the star cast.
The movie keeps you so busy judging him, that you overlook the real antagonist.
This film subtly reminds you how our judgements could go wrong.
Jack N is definitely one of the finest actors and now I look forward to watching all his movies.
Raging Bull (1980)
Robert De Niro delivers his finest performance in an average film!
The movie about this super aggressive boxer is a winner only because of an impeccable performance by De Niro. He makes you dislike him, want to kill him, hate him, empathise him and not understand him at all.
You live this character while watching Raging Bull. A perfect title for not a perfect film.
The story is predictable from scene 3 onwards.
It's easy to understand the kind of life this man was designing for himself.
I have never been a De Niro fan but this movie kind of made me a big fan.
That man knows his craft so well, and doesn't shy away from taking up any role.
Watch this to see acting at a big level.
To Kill a Mockingbird (1962)
As beautiful as poetry
This movie is such a delightful watch! I regret not watching it sooner. This one is like a melody, it's like a song that you want to play on repeat.
It is a classic and has to be on everyone's watch list.
The protagonist, the kids, and all the supporting actors deserve an applause for creating such magic in 1962! The perfect movie does exist and it's this one!
The chemistry, the character representation, the narration, etc are all top notch.
Addressing an issue of mental health in 1962 is a big deal.
This movie stole my heart! Gregory Peck- what an actor! And Atticus- what a father!
It's cinema at its best !
Dunki (2023)
SRK delivers another unforgettable performance!
This movie is the best Bollywood movie I have watched this year. It is strong, with a solid plot and excellent performances.
The love angle is the film certainly steals the show! SRK and Tapsee have a chemistry that one couldn't have imagined considering it's the first time they worked together.
It is Hirani's best work and SRK's one of the best performances. Being a die hard SRK fan, I was desperate to watch him play a lover and this movie does full justice.
Hardyal Singh Dhillon is not a green flag but a green carpet!!!
He is someone everyone in love should look up to. This character reminded me of Veer Pratap Singh and also that no Jawan or Pathan can ever bring the best of him.
It is a must watch film !
Philadelphia (1993)
Tom Hanks at his best
This movie addresses the stereotypes about AIDS and homosexuality.
Tom Hanks- A successful lawyer witnesses his downfall as soon as his firm learns about his illness.
The movie has a solid representation of the fear of the loved ones of the patient.
Denzel Washington does a fantastic job! He doesn't say once how he had changed but his expressions and body language deliver a powerful performance.
The scene where Hanks plays opera and dances to it is the most powerful, emotional and impactful scene I have ever watched.
This movie is a must watch to get a chance to witness acting at its finest.
Swades: We, the People (2004)
Better than the best
SRK's one of the finest performances and Bollywood's one of the finest films.
This is what Cinema used to be- Honest, raw and skilful.
The movie is about an NRI who visits India and falls in love with his country.
He chooses to not be in denial and acknowledges what's wrong with the nation and chooses to take the onus to make things better.
This is patriotism at another level.
His character'Mohan Bhargava' is so well written. He is sweet, loveable, sensible, values people and above all is kinder than most of the people out there.
He is one of those characters that makes you believe the world can be a better place.
Kudos to the team!
Section 375 (2019)
The best court room drama!
Akshay Khanna shines in this extremely engaging court room drama! He aces the role of a senior advocate who only goes by the books.
This is one of very few movies that takes completely different turns in the second half. Till the last minute, you struggle choosing sides.
What a fabulous film! This is a must watch for all movie lovers.
Richa Chaddha as always is great but Akshay Khanna steals the show. She was introduced as a very ambitious and efficient lawyer but she didn't seem that great. She seemed like someone who had just entered the field of law.
The last scene was sweet, realistic and beautiful.
Chemical Hearts (2020)
Disappointed and not worth watching!
I read the storyline and I was immediately interested. I watched it last week only to regret.
The movie starts on a good note and Lily manages to create a lot of mystery and keeps you hooked however the second half is very basic and barely any twists or turns.
They didn't dive into the complexities of her personality and focused way too much on the love story.
This movie should have belonged to Grace and nothing else.
She was well written but eventually the plot was lost. The scene where Henry realises that she lived in her dead boyfriend's house was superb and the effect didn't last long.
Too much potential wasted.
Me Before You (2016)
A heartbreaking love saga!
After years I watched a love story so good. It reminds you of great tales like The Notebook, If Only, A Walk to Remember etc.
This is a must watch especially for those who are desperate to watch a good love story.
Emilia Clarke as always is brilliant. What a fine actress! Her innocence is to die for.
What a wonderful story and what lovely characters.
The complexities of the characters keep you hooked.
The best part of the film is how it turns out to be different from what you anticipate.
It isn't a fairy tale and it doesn't have a happy ending but what it does have is love in the real world.
I regret not watching it sooner.
No Hard Feelings (2023)
JLaw is all hearts
A cute movie with sweet characters and a superb ending!
Jennifer Lawrence is a delight to watch and she's the reason why I sat through the movie.
Undoubtedly she's an amazing actress and her chemistry with Andrew is super cute.
The movie is about a woman who's afraid to acknowledge the real reasons behind the things that she was doing. The first scene onwards you'd know what the story would be.
The male lead helps her realise that and their journey is wholesome but quite ordinary.
The ending however is what will make you like the movie! The beginning of their friendship is what
makes the film worth watching.
Agneepath (2012)
Well written, poor direction and brilliant performances
This movie definitely has few of the best characters of Indian Cinema. Rauf Lala and Kancha Cheena are scary!! They are raw, dangerous, unkind and brutal. They are inhuman and they are unapologetically proud about that.
They own their characters like nobody else.
Rishi Kapoor is like a chameleon, you'd feel bad when you see him lose his son, you feel like stabbing him when you see him sell little girls for money.
Coming to Hrithik Roshan, the innocence on his face makes you empathise with him no matter what he does.
He longs for his mother's love and that pain is so beautifully showcased.
The scene where he picks up the plate and goes out to eat is one of the best scenes of the film.
It's engaging, powerful and keeps you hooked.
However, the direction could have been a bit better!
Maqbool (2003)
This movie is like a beautiful painting!
The beauty of this movie is how it follows, "Action speaks louder than words"!
A couple that doesn't confess love to each other but they prove it.
There's so less talking in the film and yet it speaks to you!
Tabu's finest performance without a doubt!
Irfan's eyes are to die for. His eyes speak a thousand words while he is quiet.
The scene where Tabu and Irfan realise what they had done and Tabu breaks down, deserves every award.
This is a must watch and of course Pankaj Kapoor is so good and you wish he were there for longer.
Kuddos to the makers and artists !
Om Puri and Naseeruddin Shah prove no matter what role they play, they manage to steal the show.
Girl, Interrupted (1999)
Ryder and Jolie create magic
Before I talk about the story, I got to empathise how amazing star cast is.
Watched this masterpiece last week and can't stop talking about it.
Such outstanding performances and such gripping storyline are recipe for one of the finest movies.
The movie lets you explore and understand different psychological issues and also is a ray of sunshine for the ones who are struggling.
This movie tells you that good treatment and strong willpower can help you get a life that you deserve.
A special shoutout to Brittany Murphy, her expressions and her acting are top notch.
She managed to outshine Ryder and Jolie multiple times.
Hats off!
12th Fail (2023)
This is the movie of the decade!
Vikrant Massey- what an actor! He is one of the most talented actors of the industry and I feel it's high time that people realize that.
His expressions and dialogue delivery make this movie a masterpiece.
This story of a young guy who is innocent, naive, simple touches your heart like nothing else.
Vidhu Vinod Chopra has created a movie that will be relevant forever!
Manoj's victory and defeats feel beyond personal! When he cracks the UPSC interview and starts crying, you feel so proud of him, and makes you so emotional!
Nobody could do Manoj the way Vikrant did! He is the magic and he is an inspiration, not because he cracks the exam but because he is such a great person!
Al hearts!
Jaane Jaan (2023)
Jaideep Ahlawat is the soul of the film!
I have become such a big fan of this man! He does every role with utter perfection- Jaideep is a delight to watch.
He is effortless in the film as always! Vijay Verma is good too but I'm used to watching his better performances.
Kareena Kapoor was fine and nobody could have done her role better!
It's an average movie, one time watch.
Had a lot of room of improvement and more mystery.
Another actor who makes this worth watching is Saurabh Sachdeva! He is brilliant like always.
The background score and location are good too!
A little unrealistic but Jaideep makes it believable!
A typical OTT movie for a lazy weekend!
Bloody Daddy (2023)
Shahid Kapoor does it again... plays a phenomenal dad!
Bloody Daddy is for Shahid Kapoor fans. The movie has Shahid Kapoor written all over it. He steals the show! He is great as an actor and especially he is great at playing a dad! Jersey had proved that already!
Average music, average acting by Diana Penty and Rajeev Khandelwal. Ronit Roy had his moments!
A must watch for SK fans but nothing new. Quite an average storyline, obvious sequences and average background score.
The movie had a lot of potential but clearly couldn't do much.
Ankur Bhatia was a delight to watch- Don't miss Aarya!
A light film, binge worthy but definitely not memorable.
Friday Night Plan (2023)
Average storyline; outstanding climax.
Being an Irfan fan, I had to watch this movie! Babil is so similar to his father. The same expressive eyes and the same innocence.
The story of the movie revolves around two brothers who are quite the opposite of each other but find some common connection to bond.
The chemistry between Babil & Amrith Jayan is super cute and seem so real. Their bond makes the movie worth watching.
A bunch of high school kids trying to have fun- that's the story in one line but if you dig deeper you see that the story is actually about two responsible sons who don't get carried away.
The climax where the sons are shown narrating the Friday night incident to their mother, played by Juhi Chawla, will make your eyes watery for sure. Very simple, sweet and a perfect shot!
Chaahat (1996)
SRK at his best! His vulnerability and innocence make this movie a must watch.
I watched this today and I'm so surprised to see how beautiful SRK is! His top notch acting skills and his vulnerability make 'Roop' a very beautiful character.
Nobody could have done it! SRK knows what to do and how to do brilliantly.
Chahat explores unconditional love and throws light on toxic behaviour. It draws attention to how someone who is not mentally fit need treatment and not constant encouragement from their family.
Pooja Bhatt's simplicity draws a lot of attention too.
She did a fine job! Naseeruddin Shah is as always a master of acting.
I can watch this movie over and over again.
The last ten minutes of the movie are the best.
Jawan (2023)
The eternal King and his eternal charm!
Watched this evening, this movie has SRK written all over it and yet is a film that will be enjoyed by the generations to come.
Can't stop praising this man!
The movie is perfect, the background score is outstanding!!!
Atlee has celebrated SRK in this film and he must make many more movies to celebrate him.
SRK as Vikram Rathod is everything that Indian Cinema needs. His style, voice, personality are all to die for.
Not a single second of boredom in such a long film!
Every bit of the film is created with perfection and the hard work shows.
Such important issues are so subtly addressed and that monologue where it seems he is talking to the audience deserves every award.
He is the best and the undisputed King of Bollywood !!!
Tere Naam (2003)
An intense love story that could have avoided that one scene!
This movie revolves around Radhe, not so wise or ambitious. Radhe did nothing to make a living and spent all his days having fun, beating goons and bullying new students of a college that he graduated from years ago!
This character has been portrayed fantastically by Salman Khan and this is one of those rare movies where he displayed his acting skills.
The character has multiple layers, he was stubborn, innocent and often seemed obsessed.
Nirjala- the female lead played by Bhumika Chawla is someone who takes instructions, obeys what's told, super simple.
Both the leads are flawed! These aren't the characters you'd want to look up to.
The kidnapping scene was awful and totally unnecessary. And right after that the female lead accepting him didn't go down well.
The climax of the movie is what makes it worth the watch.
A good film, no doubt!
Saving Private Ryan (1998)
Beautiful like poetry
Tom Hanks as always delivers a fantastic performance!
This movie has a very unique story line and every actor has been casted so well.
Matt Damon, Vin Diesel, Edward Burns etc- the whole cast won my heart.
The irony of the scene when Edith Pilaf longs for her lover and the men fighting in a war enjoys the song deserves an Oscar!
One of the best films made about the World War Two.
The sound, the background score are all beyond perfect.
I can watch this a million times!
Matt Damon and Tom Hanks share a few scenes and the chemistry is lit!
There are so many memorable scenes in the film and I regret not watching it sooner.
Hats off to Spielberg!
Gadar 2 (2023)
Gadar 2 lacked Gadar's innocence
Gadar didn't need a sequel. That movie was a masterpiece and this sequel is the opposite. The relationships in Gadar 2 didn't seem organic. The chemistry was entirely missing.
Besides the old songs, the new ones aren't worth remembering at all.
I wish they had not touched a masterpiece like that.
Gadar 2 is a onetime watch but Gadar is a movie that could be watched every year.
Sunny Deol is the only good thing about Gadar 2 and unfortunately he barely has any scenes in the first half of the movie.
Ameesha Patel was okay but her presence didn't leave any impact.
Utkarsh Sharma and Sunny Deol's chemistry didn't seem real.
A Man Called Otto (2022)
A perfect film! It's a must watch.
Tom Hanks- definitely the god of acting! Nobody's like him.
The movie is a perfect blend of humour, love, tears, lessons!
It touches the epitome of love and tragedy and at the same time talks about how one needs to live their life even when one loses the most important people.
The love story angle, the family drama and the Otto's mood swings are amazing!!
Otto's relationship with Marisol is too good!
Everyone needs an Otto in their lives!
That man is rude, straightforward and yet the first one to offer help without taking the credit.
Such a feel good film, I can watch it a few more times.
The background score and the music are spectacular!
Tom Hanks as always steals the show.
He's a delight to watch!
I wish they had given this film a few awards.
Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001)
Tara Singh stole my heart !
What a movie! I watched this movie years ago but in bits.
I watched it last night and I can't stop praising it since.
It's such a wonderful story, the actors, the music and the love angle of the movie are all exceptionally beautiful.
This is certainly one of my favourite Bollywood movies.
The songs of the movie can be played in a look for days, the love story is exactly what Bollywood is missing these days.
Tara Singh's innocence stole my heart!
And of course his college performance was another level.
I wish Bollywood made such characters today and I wish Gadar 2 turns out to be equally good!!!
Rana Naidu (2023)
Phenomenal performances in an average story.
Rana Daggubati and Venkatesh Daggubati- this offscreen uncle- nephew duo plays father- son duo in this intelligent series. They both carry the whole series along with some help from Abhishekh Banerjee and Gaurav Chopra.
Outstanding performances! This off screen uncle- nephew duo leaves no stone unturned in turning this otherwise average story to something so amazing. They keep you hooked and you'd finish this 10- episode series in probably a day!
Surveen Chawla could have offered way more! She's not properly utilised.
Sushant S and Ashish Vidyarthi deliver a fine performance and Abhishek Banerjee makes me wonder how he manages to pull of every character with such perfection.
He's a chameleon!
He's vulnerable, funny, emotional, loveable and you'd wish he was as given a little more screen time.
An excellent star cast and a super entertaining series.
The climax will make you choose- Team Naga or Team Rana!
