Killing Eve (2018)
A must see! At least the first 2 seasons...
I've always liked Sandra Oh and she shines in this series; all the actors do a fine job. The writing in this show is truly exceptional for the first 2 seasons then unfortunately takes a bit of a nose dive.
Jodie Comer is sensational as the conflicted psychopathic killer. I was unaware of this actress until binging this series and I'm just blown away by her... she is absolutely amazing in this role!
Jodie's character is sometimes flamboyant yet other times quite subtle but with tremendous expression in just a nod, eye movement and ever so slight smile. She seems to pull this off flawlessly and with such ease that it's a joy to watch.
Jodie Comer has a golden future ahead as an actress.
Donovan Reid (2019)
Unexpected Gem
Just happened to stumble upon this while scanning through Prime Video; how refreshing to find such a well crafted film! A bit slow at first but I implore you to stay with it, you will not regret it.
An ending you will not soon forget!
Black Earth Rising (2018)
Outstanding!
Thank you Netflix for an extrodinary production!
This series is so rich in every way that I found myself replaying parts to make sure I absorbed it all.
If you are a thoughtful person please do yourself a favor and watch this. Allow the time not to rush trough it and be sure to catch every detail.
Kudos to everyone involved in the making of this amazingly well produced series! I truly don't understand how anyone can give this a poor rating 🤔
The Ranch (2016)
Meh... could have been so much better than it is.
I honestly don't know why I'm drawn to keep watching this series. The writing is often terrible, acting is mediocre at best (Debra Winger is so bad it's embarrassing) and the indiscriminate F bombs are frequently forced and very unnatural. Also, I suppose they need the very annoying laugh track, otherwise you would never know it was supposed to be funny! So much great talent and potential wasted...
Yet I keep retuning and watching - there is something about this show that is appealing. There are moments that are LOL funny but very few and far between. I hope it improves, I really do but so far it's just not happening. Now that Danny Masterson is gone it just may be the nail in the coffin for this show.
The Ice Cream Truck (2017)
Boring and stupid
Pretty bad movie but watched anyway hoping something surprising would happen. It doesn't; and then what - "it's all a dream" ending? Phooey.
I think some folks are reading WAY too much into it in their positive reviews. Let me leave you with this: If being chased by a maniac killer why on earth would you hide in HIS truck??
Goliath (2016)
It was good until it wasn't...
I read a lot of the reviews and honestly wondered why so many people hated season 2. And then it happened - in episode 7 this show goes off the rails in a big way.
Up to that point I enjoyed Goliath. It may not be as well written as some other shows (Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul for example) but pretty good and very well acted with some unexpected cool twists.
Episode 7 of season 2 was a "WTF" moment and seriously disappointing; the final episode 8 wasn't much better. I'm not going to give up just yet; I hope the writing will improve so some talented actors can fulfill their potential.
There is one very major goof in season 2 that will make you think "wait a minute... did I just see that?" Enough said. Every series has a klunker here and there; this is worth a try.
Mother! (2017)
Excellent performance by Jennifer Lawrence
I am not a film critic or pretend to understand what that even means exactly. I just like movies and whether I feel one is good or not is purely subjective.
This film hit a nerve and not because of all the symbolism or what the "true meaning" of it was. I have never so closely related to a character in a film than I did with Jennifer Lawrence's performance.
I was riveted by her character and the panic, anxiety and pain of her situation. It was as if it were scripted from my own dreams and nightmares (though it went much further than my subconscious mind ever has!).
The emotional turmoil and anxiety of being powerless to control 'others' from transgressions of your personal space and property was expertly portrayed. The connection for me was so intense it was disturbing to say the least.
So if a film is meant to relate to the viewer on some emotional level (isn't that really the point?) Mother! did for me specifically in regard to Ms. Lawrence's role.
