Malcolm & Marie (2021)
Great acting carries a mediocre film
A film filled with emotion but devoid of purpose, Malcom and Marie always felt like it was going somewhere only to return to the same tedious argument. Perhaps that's the point, that the couple is stuck on this and will never get over it, but as a viewer I grew bored of it after an hour. Zendaya and Washington had beautiful monologues containing passion and true acting skills, but the film really should've been 45 minutes to an hour maximum. The second half was just rehashing the first, and I feel a shorter form would've made this a much more profound work of art.
Waco (2018)
Not an accurate portrayal of Waco
Despite what others have written, this series does not get any of the critical information of the siege correct. Federal agents didn't fire the first shots, and that has been proven in several investigations. ATF agents didn't kill an unarmed man, he was in fact armed and fired at the agents. The fire wasn't started by CS gas. No pyrotechnic CS shells ever hit the house. There were gallons of diesel and camping fuel stored by the Branch Davidians, and several of the survivors testified that Branch Davidians started it. This is a sensationalized and inaccurate view, made for tv. It's either purposely controversial, or the writers and producers were made ignorant to the facts.
Gallipoli (2015)
Decent, not great.
There are inaccuracies littered throughout the series, and that's the reason for 6/10. Otherwise, the fighting scenes were decent and the acting was above average for a war series. I've seen some bashing this as a pro war(?) series, when I think it's the opposite. How someone could watch the death and devastation those men faced and the way they reacted to it and decide this was a patriotic movie is beyond me. I feel the movie accurately portrayed the horrific scene on the front lines, and the way the soldiers coped with it.
