Quite good.
3 January 2008
When I heard the title,I felt the female protagonist might be a headstrong lady or a fear-evoking personality.Instead, she's a tender and lovable 'Champa',. It's a good love story with a neat twist in the second half, which made the film quite watchable and special. The major plus points are the beautiful settings and great music (Each and every song is beautiful to say the least.).The heroine Sharmila Tagore looks extremely beautiful and charmingly innocent.Shammi Kapoor too is good looking. The film moves quite smoothly without making you feel bored. However ,the climax turned out to be a big drag with a rather unusually long fights. Nevertheless,it can be watched with less expectations if you don't mind to kill time !!

Great movie.
2 January 2008
This is a great movie which touches the hearts of the viewers.Actually, I wanted to watch this film only because this film is said to be to be one of the best ones directed by V.Shantaram. A simple story well presented with good performances by all the actors. The music is good and the best song is undoubtedly the "Ai Malik, tere bandhe hum". The film is all about how a young jailer reforms 6 hardcore criminals without using any sorts of violence. The film scores primarily in the sentimental part, especially in the climax. The major plus point of the film is that it never bores you even for a minute.Easily, one of the best films made in Hindi.

Just a plain love story.
28 May 2007
There's nothing so special in this film.In this 140 minutes saga, the first 130 minutes is something which we find in innumerable love stories(Boy and girl run away etc.),only in the last 10 minutes there's something 'different',a twist. For this,it gets so much of acclaim. Also, another reason why it was 'acclaimed' is that dark lights are used to shoot this film.(To give a 'realistic look'.) The reason is the loud manner in which each and every relative of the heroine talks.(Cannot bear it.)It's waste of time.Cannot believe that this is praised so highly.Bharat and the heroine look good though. 4/10.That's all it deserves.

A perfect movie with no mistakes.
30 December 2005
It is hard to make a good movie despite having a good story. For there are chances of making mistakes in the script or cinematography or music or direction. But Maniratnam has made a movie with no mistakes to find in it! Real magic! He did not make it that perfect even in'Thalapathi' or 'Roja' or even 'Nayagan'. Suitable music ,neat portrayal, nice story and over all a great movie!A perfect 10 to say. This deserved to win a national award, though it was not given. But still,it is the bestTamilfilm i had ever seen. Also it should have been a very big hit for its good content. A must see for all. The best from Maniratnam.I had watched it 5 times.
