Kookminsahyungtopyo (2023)
Annoying and inconsistent
So, I ended up watching this as a friend recommended it and so we watched it together always wonder what was going to happen next. After a few episodes I started seeing so many plot holes and inconsistencies that it was infuriating. In one episode a bomb explodes in a car, you see our heroine run towards the car but she doesn't make it. In the next the episode the car is surrounded by black smoke before the bomb goes off and the heroine manages to make it to the car before the bomb explodes. I was like what the hell is going on here that didn't happen!. And of course we have the Gaetal's (the name for the people behind the killing vote itself. It goes from 1 to 3 and yeah you always suspect there's more that 1. Then it jumps to 7 and a few episodes later its 457. Totally crazy. I honestly think they made this without any sort of coherent script. It's a slow moving series that relies you to suspend belief in reality at times.
The Color Purple (2023)
Terrible remake
The Color Purple has been on my top 5 list of all time favourite movies since I saw the original when it was first released in 1985. This musical remake is not only tacky but misses sooooo much and it DOES NOT work. I had hoped it would be even better given some of the original cast members where involved included Oprah (who gave an excellent performance as Sofia in the original along with Whoopi as Sissy), but no. It was just miss after miss after miss, and the musical numbers at the oddest of moments did nothing except to kill the story line. This version won't even make it to my top 1000 movies it was that bad and encourage ANYONE who watches it to go back and watch the original and really see what you've missed.
Wicked City (2022)
Has Potential, just not sure where it will go
For fans of fantasy and sci-fi, this show has potential and I guess we need to see where it goes. Hopefully it will start to take itself more seriously, cast members will actually speak instead of whisper, and each episode won't end with a group of screaming girls (or witches) panicking about the situation they find themselves in, cause that's already gotten old. It's the classic tale of good verses evil, although acting on the evil side is disappointing, always dressed in black and trying way to hard to appear evil. I guess we will need to wait and see although I am not holding my breath. But if the next episode ends with a bunch of screaming girls falling all over themselves screaming and panicking i am switching off.
American Horror Story (2011)
Not the AHS we have come to know and love
I have been a huge fan of AHS, well until the current season that is. I get the story line of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, and that is a real horror story that no-one should forget, but it really handled the story badly. From sex obsessed gay men, to a mysterious hooded "Daddy" figure. The cinematography at times was just hard to follow and even though you know what the story line is about you kept waiting for something more. Unfortunately nothing more was delivered.
This season isn't a patch on any of the others and was quite frankly boring as hell. Bring back the coven of witches and warlocks!. Hopefully there won't be a season 12 because if season 11 is anything to go by the writers for AHS have completely and utterly lost the plot of why people loved the previous 10 perfect seasons.
Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Predictable
A movie that spends too much time reliving the original Top Gun (with all the same cliches) and that is predictable even down to the dialogue. I had expected something more from this given all the hype, I shouldn't have. This could have been so much better. Wait for it to come to the small screen and save your money.
La Brea (2021)
Could have been soooo Good
This could have been great, but with wooden acting and a terrible convoluted plot, not to mention a pace that was way too slow to keep anyone's attention it fell so far short of what if could have been that it missed the mark completely. I found myself skimming episodes it became that boring. Whoever the writers are for this should ask the world for forgiveness for presenting us with this disaster of a series.
We're Here (2020)
A must watch Show
The show handles sensitive topics bringing them to the forefront and sending clear messages that you need to learn to love yourself for who you are, to embrace those differences that make you uniquely you. It is about diversity, inclusion, acceptance and love. It highlights issues that members of the LGBTQ+ community face head on in a way that is both sensitive, caring, understanding and accepting. I absolutely loved this show and hope that it continues for many more seasons as people really need to understand the insights into the lives of this community the show provides. It is one of the best reality shows on television today because it brings with the unmistakable message of self-empowerment and love in a truly unique way. But have a box of tissues ready because some of the stories that are shared are hard to watch, which is all the more reason to watch them.
Cloak & Dagger (2018)
Slow moving
A lot happening in each episode but never really leading to much, very slow moving. I mean lets face it, if you suddenly developed a super power wouldn't you be going all out to find out what the hell it was etc. No, not here, they each have their own story line to resolve and their powers are basically a sub-plot. Maybe it will develop in time, but quite frankly how much time does it need?
American Gods (2017)
Slow and Plodding
Like others I haven't read the book, only the series information which drew me to the show. I have to say that 2 episodes in I have no idea what is going on. The plot is so slow and plodding that this may only really appeal to the fans of the book. The show has a great cast so far so maybe there's some promise there, time will tell. But I'm not sure if I can really be bothered to continue to watch it to find out. The amount of vagueness in each episode is like a void that never seems to be filled, and between the first 2 episodes my level of confusion has risen. At the end of episode 2 I am left with a ... what the hell is going on .... moment, but not in a good way, not in a way that has me eagerly anticipating the next episode to find out, but in a way that has me ready to find better uses of my time. The only, and I really mean the only reason I will give it some more time is because of the amazing cast who's credentials alone are my only reason to continue to watch to see what develops. But even they cannot save it for much longer.
