Charmingly Refreshing, Yet Played Safe
9 July 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The newest adaption/reboot of Marvel's Spiderman is a breath of fresh air for those still suffocating underneath the horror which was "Amazing Spiderman 2". Director Jon Watts skillfully creates a world where Peter Parker struggles to finesse his abilities while juggling school and relationships. Actor Tom Holland is a believable teenager (being 20 during filming) and instead of skateboarding his angst away *Cough Amazing Spiderman* he is the nerdy, awkward, gawky kid we expect. There is no sequence where we sigh and watch politely as Uncle Ben is murdered or Aunt May offers sage advice. Rather, We're thrust into the midst of Peter having his powers. Tony Stark is in the movie in exactly the right dose to keep the focus on Parker. Michael Keaton's depiction of the Vulture is a coin toss: Either you agree with his motivation, or you find it unconvincing that he would see turning to crime as the only option. Their fight sequences mercifully don't involve destroying entire cities and killing thousands of citizens, but at the same time it feels a bit TOO low-key and leaves you wanting more. There are tons of Easter- eggs for the inner nerd in you spread throughout the movie. All in all, it's a fresh take on a familiar character and I'm excited to see where this goes...

Fear the Face-Hugger--This is Phenomenal!
2 June 2017
I found this to be an entertaining film which left me unsettled and wanting more at the end. You'll hear a lot of "critics" complaining that the original movies were better, but aside from the first "Alien", all the following movies were truly rubbish with poor story-lines and even more derelict acting. Covenant, however, takes you back to the nostalgia of the first film, while integrating advanced graphic which brings the world alive in a way not seen before. The lead, Katherine Waterston, is more of a Ripley than a Shawe, and really owns the part she plays. I highly recommend that you watch this movie, not as someone who grew up with the dated effects of the original films, but as someone who appreciates the genre and vibe of the "Alien" world.

Surprisingly Very Entertaining
13 May 2017
I went into the movie with low expectations. From the trailers I expected it to be poorly shot, rushed, full of plot-holes, and uninteresting. I'm a fan of the book, and I did not want to see a re- imagining. What I received, however, was a cinematic thrill which kept me enthralled throughout with clever dialogue, fast-paced action, captivating camera shots, and phenomenal acting by an impressive cast. As expected, the story was retold with a fantasy-like vibe oft seen in the likes of "Lord of the Rings", "Narnia", and "300" to name a few examples. I go to the movies weekly and have always been bias to fantasy. This movie does not disappoint and I look forward with bated breath for the following sequels...
